This is one of the best educational and interesting talks that I have seen on antique firearms and American history ever. I'm not from California but I agree with you. Being born and raised in Virginia,we as southerners tend to be the buttend of jokes as well!!!
Excellent. I built my own Hawken here in the UK when no one knew what it was. All sourced from the good old Dixie Gunworks catalogue 1979. It still hits the bull at 200yds.
The word Hawken seems to only refer to Jakob and Samual but Christian Hawken also made rifles and they were flintlock. Seems to me Sam and Jacob would also have made flintlocks because the learning to make rifles would had to have been with flintlock.
Hawken is a brand name of mountain rifle. It’s like a lever gun, the best was the Winchester but you had Marlin, Colt had their pump or calling bolt guns Mausers.
If it helps, they do one run a year of percussion caps, usually in summer. Keep an eye out for them online, and order by the box. Once they hit the store shelves when it's getting closer to hunting season, they go fast, and the price goes up.
Great talk! I wish you had more videos, thank you Mr. Doyle Reid!
You know that an educational review like this has been done really well when you wish it hadn't ended. Great job by Mr. Doyle Reid.

The roll of the hawkens rifle in the Rocky mountains and the mountain men started in 1970 and 1972 with the movie jermie Johnson facts

And percussion caps are still a problem today. Availability

Dimick rifles are where many called Hawkens of modern day are modeled from.
I would suspect that the Mountain Men used what they could afford and what they could get their hands on. Most likely a hodge podge of different guns.
Hero or Villain………..depends on what side your talking to 🤷🏻♂️
