One of his songs popped up on Spotify 2 days ago and now I’m totally hooked to his music. What a unique gem of an artist. So pure, highly touching, simple and deep with meaning at the same time. I wish I had discovered him while he was still around. May he rest in peace.

Some Things Last a Long Time will *always* be one of my favorite songs of all-time. I'm glad Built to Spill introduced me to Daniel Johnston all those years ago. And the way Jad Fair played his guitar in the last part is the exact way we are all feeling.

My brother's made Daniel who he is. My brother Mark wrote music for him and my brother Brett made played guitar for him and at times was very difficult with Daniel's condition.

All of daniels best and most famous songs are just him in a room playing piano and singing into a tape recorder in the 80s. If there’s anyone who you could say made themselves who they are through sheer determination, Daniel would be very high on the list.
The fact you think this makes me think your brother is going around saying that, which means he is a gigantic asshole, who’s only claim to fame is writing music for someone famous in the later stages of their life, which is a neat footnote in history, but is ultimately pretty minor.
