Oh friend! If you're a psych nurse you need to get into map of the soul! RM went whole hog on Carl Jung a few years back. They have tracks like persona, shadow and ego, blood sweat and tears is a big one.
In any case, yes an intro video will be great but I'd suggest a few more pieces before you jump on that. There's a perfect BTS "sample platter", it's a performance they did for their anniversary in 2021, a medley of a few of their songs, it'll give you a good flavour of them, will totally help you start recognizing the faces and voices, then it'll be easier to add the names.

Especially during 2022 and the terrible things that were going on in the US, I found a great deal of hope and comfort in sharing BTS with reactors from all over--but starting with the WhatchaGot2say guys. (Shout out to Nico, Blaze & AJJ!) When social media and the news said Americans--esp. white & black--should be hating each other, bonding with those 3 black dudes from the American South over a Korean "boy band" was more than fun--it was healing.

One day you're reacting to your 20th BTS song, thinking you know them fairly well, right down to getting their names right, enjoying their music, their vibe, their diversity of musical genres, when BAM! Out of left field, the lyrics jump off of the screen, and you just KNOW that they wrote that song just for you. It speaks to you...takes your breath away...gives you chills...makes your eyes well up with tears...and it is absolutely perfect and you question how they could possibly have known you so well. Welcome to the rabbit hole. Watch that first step...its huge 💜

Their whole Map of the Soul 7 album is written based on Jungian psychology. Each of the 3 rappers wrote a solo song based on a different Jungian concept - Persona by RM, Shadow by Suga, Ego by J-Hope. The music vids for those songs are titled "comeback trailer" so don't be confused by that. There's also an explanation vid for each song done by the channel DKDKTV. A lot of BTS songs need explanation vids, for their depth of lyricism that has a lot of the Korean wordplay and cultural references that are lost in translation.
Also there's a corresponding Dance Practice vid for nearly every group BTS song, you can pair music vid + dance practice vid together for a more satisfying reaction haha. Their dance practice vids show you the entire choreography without cuts or fancy camera work, they're very cool

Given the lead time between recording and releasing music videos, this was made just before the pandemic and would have been the keynote performance of their scheduled 2020 world tour. Sadly it was totally cancelled. I don't know about an official meaning but to me I think it talks about the pressures they face, about waking up in different cities on tour so often they hardly know where they are, and how it's tough being at the top of their profession. However they acknowledge that they 'carried myself into this beautiful prison', and therefore they are willing to accept the price of success ie 'bring the pain on'. They have also had more than their fair share of haters ov er their career, which is why they affirm 'can't hold me down cos you know i['m a fighter.'
These are my personal opinions. All songs are of course open to interpretation.

Interesting interpretations but I like it. Personally I interpreted the song more like an anthem and then like facing the hardships and telling themselves to keep going forward. The line “I carried myself into this beautiful prison”, I interpreted the prison being a celebrity or idol. They had their dream and accomplished them that brought them to this “prison” where they can’t really have normal lives anymore but it is beautiful because of what they gained. They have all talked about how much pressure it is to be as big as they are, how they can’t really go to the store or anything without people knowing who they are, etc which can be like a prison because of it but it is beautiful because of ARMY, the relationship they gained with each other, the people they are or have become, etc…this is my interpretation.

I’m really glad you did this one because ON is actually the ‘sequel’ to Black Swan, your first reaction. All their songs are layered, some more so than others, which leaves room for the audience to have their own personal relationship with each song.
For me, in ON they’re confronting and acknowledging their Shadow, the fear and pain that goes with all the joy of being a creative human being. They’re accepting that it’s a part of who they are and choosing to go forward… to go ON.
Both songs are part of a long, long sequence in which they’ve explored the ideas of Hesse, Nietzsche, Jung and others, and there are themes which they’ve returned to many times since 2016 and the album Wings. They use ideas and art to understand their world and their growth and development as human beings… and they turn it into music and dance.
    Their live performances are epic.
It’s kinda mind blowing that they shot this kinetic video, the very different cinematic version of it and the Black Swan video in the same trip. It was filmed just before the pandemic. Later in 2020 they released an entire album, ‘BE’ , based around their thoughts and experience of living through the pandemic. The title track/mv is a song called ‘Life Goes On’.

4:07 - The name of the song "ON" goes back to an earlier song of theirs "N.O.". There's a standard music video version, and then there's this manifesto-in-motion where above and beyond the words the dancing and patterns and overall kinetics of the piece add to it. "Come Prima" is an Italian musical phrase meaning "as before/same as before", so while the song is being punctuated with this kinetic manifesto, it is still in the same spirit and message as before.

Such a good song and video. This actually was on the album that dropped right before lockdown in late winter 2020 -- their world tour (sold out) that was for this album was canceled.
And although they were just as uncertain about the future as the rest of us, they actually made and put out another album that year (November) that talked about all the emotions we were all experiencing at that time. Since they weren't able to tour or do appearances, they were even more involved in the process since they had nothing but time.
Their first "breakthrough" song in the US came out during lockdown (because it was their first all-English song to be honest), and was a pure disco-pop song to cheer everyone up. Many people still think that those cheerful pop songs are all that they do and write them off as fluff.
As for the group's formation -- it all started with RM (the rapper with he deep voice) who was known in the underground rap circuit as a young teenager. The CEO of a very small company (one that was almost bankrupt) was looking for talent like his and brought on RM to form a rap group. The next two members were another rapper/producer and a street dancer who had auditioned much like American musicians audition people for a band. Then things evolved from there, bringing in singers and other dancers until they became what they are and debuted as all seven members that we see today.

Hi! I’m a 74 year old American woman who has been living in Europe for over 30 years - the last nearly 25 with my Swedish husband in the paradise of Sweden. BTS found me (you will see that many of us feel that BTS found us, not the other way around) in 2017 when I was missing my parents. They are both deceased many years back. But they LOVED to dance and were both terrific dancers. Having been youths in the 1940’s they especially loved jitterbug. So on this one evening I was searching You Tube for dance videos and there was BTS! I have watched their videos and reaction videos nearly every day since. I really enjoy the reaction videos because then I feel like I have company with my enjoyment. I wish I/you could have found the first time they did this song on Jimmy Fallon Late Night. The train station was empty and the dancing more intense with better filming of them. They actually collapsed at the end of the song from exhaustion! I don’t understand why it was taken down. I’m glad you did a reaction on this. I’m not a young fan but a 56 year old fan lol. Great Job!

I had fallen down the rabbit hole about 3 weeks before this MV and their new album dropped. At the time they were in New York doing promo for the album. They got back to Korea just as things over there were shutting down due to COVID, whereas the US was still moving as normal. They had to perform their brand new song to empty audiences on the Korean music shows, and once you know more about BTSs relationship with their fans, you’ll come to understand how difficult that was. Then the tour was postponed. The Black Swan MV dropped about a week before the US started shutting down. I was so sad as a new fan, which is selfish to say, but it was so difficult having just found them. But they just kept rising during COVID, they worked so hard continuing to do virtual performances without audiences, pushing our content and more music just to make their fans happy. I remember watching them during their online concert in October 2020, and one of the members breaking down in tears just broke my heart. Their album Map of the Soul 7 was amazing, but I still feel wistful because I feel like COVID stopped it from getting the full attention it deserved from a wider audience. I am so proud of how BTS handled the last 3 years, and where they’re at today despite the pandemic.

Don’t worry- I was a novice as well 😅 I was Introduced to BTS by my Korean students and was inspired by their talent, musicality, the depth and beauty of their lyrics, choreography and so much more.
According to my students then - This song ON is a follow up comment on one of their debut songs in 2013 called N.O. with Our Boys leading a kind of revolution against the rigidity of the Korean education system where individualism was “frowned” upon and rigidity encouraged in the education system and schools to churn out ‘obedient’ students who will contribute to a society that will function like a well-oiled machine.
ON has become the inversion of N.O. - they(BTS) encouraged the Korean youth - who had (and still have) much pressure to excel in school- to take ON the educational system and society, turning inwards to discover and focus on themselves as Individuals, recognising the ID (I), the ME, the Self and PERSONA, the importance of self- discovery (Albums - BE, MAP OF THE SOUL etc) much of their work exploring psychological and philosophical themes. The choreography displays the militarism and rigidity of the school system and how society wanted them- the youth- to be; BTS breaks through that - the blood, sweat, tears, rejection in the lyrics - to establish a new order, so to speak. Hence the purity and innocence of youth (white) breaking through the establishment (black) and finding the ANSWER: LOVE YOURSELF. These themes and many more are continuously explored by BTS, even in Jin’s EPIPHANY. They encourage ARMY Worldwide to find courage in themselves and to believe in themselves.
BTW: 67 years old and a proud ARMY 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜❤️

They have a wonderful message. BTS ARMY know everything about these guys. Their company videoed everything. We have gotten to know them. There is a reason why they are so popular. Their talent speaks for itself. BUT they actually show a lot about themselves. They talk about all kinds issues that they have had and include everyone. These guys are impressive. They have spoken at the United Nations twice and have been guests at The While House. Because of them South Korea has become a tourist hot spot and they have brought BILLIONS of dollars into their country. They have been on TIME magazine. The list is loooooong. Please keep watching BTS💜

I am a mother and grandmother and it was my twin granddaughters that introduced me to BTS and I am grateful for that. It’s been commented on the Map of the soul concept for this album. But this song inspires me to keep going even when I am feeling bad due to my chronic pain. Suga’s verse especially if my knees are not buried it doesn’t matter. I take courage from that and that’s why BTS is special. Enjoy your journey down this beautiful rabbit hole. 💜

I am so happy you decided to check this one out! I personally LOVED the choreo and the supporting dancers and marching band, known as "The Lab dancers and the Blue Devil's marching band." The MV for this single is also amazing.
This single is part of their album "Map of the Soul: 7". The song is a high-energy, electronic dance track that explores the themes of perseverance and resilience in the face of challenges.
The overall meaning of "ON" is about BTS's journey as artists, their struggles and successes, and how they have been able to overcome obstacles and continue to strive towards their goals. The song encourages listeners to keep moving forward, even when faced with setbacks, and to never give up on their dreams.
In terms of its connection to BTS's previous song "N.O.", both songs share similar themes of struggling against societal pressures and expectations. "N.O." is a song about the pressures that young people in South Korea face to conform to societal norms and expectations, such as studying hard and getting a good job. "ON" builds upon these themes by showcasing BTS's own struggles as artists and how they have been able to overcome these pressures to pursue their passion.
Overall, "ON" is a powerful and uplifting song that inspires listeners to keep pushing forward and never give up on their dreams, no matter how difficult the journey may be.

BTS is heart and soul, which makes them special and rare. Their music is deep and stems from a genuine emotional place inside. Lyrics are not shallow, that's why they resonate with people. Once you get hooked to listening to BTS, there is no going back. My only hindrance is language because I just don't want to rely on translations. Trying to pick up Korean so I could just understand the poetry.

They did actually make a song about the pandemic. It's called Life Goes On and they filmed the mv in their own dorm. In fact they made an entire "pandemic-album" called BE about their thoughts, feelings and realisations during that time and directed everything about it themselves (with the help of their incredible team), including design, styling, the mv, etc.
You should definitely choose the introduction by Taylor Nakamoto called The Bangtan 7. That one goes into each member as well as the group as a whole. To get the more negative side of their career as well I recommend XCeleste's BTS Hardships 2013-2021. It's not nice to watch but it's a huge part of their story and goes a long way to explaining their quite unique relationship with ARMY.

This video never ceases to amaze me, it's incredibly powerful. I understand that you are starting the journey of discovery and you will see things so incredible that they will surprise you and you will understand why we are all fascinated with them as a group and individually with some of them.
There is a world to discover about BTS and I must begin by saying that their music and lyrics are made to heal, they lead to reflection, our inner world, our struggles and our determination to get up again and again when we fall and understand that it does not mean failure but learning which makes us stronger.
Each of the comments that you will read here will share information to lead you to an understanding. But you have good instincts and you are on your way to self-discovery.

Hello! I'm loving your reactions! Every Army is happy when someone starts to discover the value of BTS. Anyone who loves BTS is loved by fandon. We are happy with others for this affection, admiration and pride in supporting this very talented group. They are beautiful, wonderful voices, perfect dancing and have wonderful personalities, like "nice people". They are global stars but remain humble and their lyrics touch us in different ways at unique times.
"NO" and "ON" - BTS has an older song called 'NO', which talks about the fight against society and the concepts that oppress us, in a true protest for the freedom of young people to be whatever they want.
In 'ON', the fight is now within themselves, against their own dilemmas.
BTS is always deep in their lyrics and contexts, including contrasting and linking their own compositions.
    NO.....ON

Your reaction feels so real - exactly like what I (and most fans/Army) must have been like when we first watched these MVs ourselves: on our own, not performing for any camera, just taking it in and kind of in awe. There's a quiet exhilaration I feel at the end of this song - and I think you did too (that "whew" exhale). Hope you keep exploring BTS - it's really fun for us to feel like we're watching something for the first time again, through your eyes.
Yes, you must watch some background vids: "This is BTS" by xCeleste (the shortest one, but good starter, giving you the bigger-picture context that's always necessary, even though it's slightly older now); "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life (2023 Update)" by Rice Squad - which briefly introduces each member but covers more of their musical trajectory; then "A Guide to BTS Members: The Bangtan 7" by Taylor Mari which is about each member individually, one by one. Looking forward!

Song and music video was released literally around weeks mid feb. 2020 before rest of world and USA shut down due to the pandemic. Black Swan and On were their 2 released songs for new top selling 2020 album then named Map of The Soul (7+ million albums sold so far worldwide) to support their sold out worldwide tour which was supposed to begin in a few months in USA(they cancelled Korean dates abruptly because pandemic just hit there) in 2020 but eventually all tours completely cancelled in 2022 instead of makeup USA dates when pandemic was still around.
All BTS albums are concept albums beginning in their mostly late teens age with their first 2013 debut album writing about their lives and struggles at their age then, which continued among 9 studio albums to their latest album at the time in 2020. So concept album for song On continued their theme of them being together for nearly a decade then and dealing with fame, identity, self and ego from their experiences up to that point in time. Most of their songs have thought provoking messages and ideas in regards to human well being.
The girl in middle is Siena Lalau and she choreographed some of BTS songs like On and Dionysus. She is among many special different choreographers that were brought on to choreograph many BTS songs through the years but BTS often have her and her dance crew join BTS as backup dancers on their USA tours through the years.

One of my favorite things about kpop is that it embodies so many different genres. It’s an overarching umbrella term that covers everything from pop to hip hop to rap to rock to ballads to even grunge and metal vibes… and even so much more. Most groups can’t be categorized in to one genre because they have songs that fit multiple genres and even mix different genres within one song. There is so much versatility in kpop and I love that. I’ve always been a believer that good music is good music and the genre doesn’t matter. And there is just so much good music in kpop. There are also so many songs with really deep and meaningful lyrics that just resonate so deeply with so many people. BTS are a stellar example of that. So many of their songs have touched me on such a deep level.
If you decide you want to continue looking in to more kpop groups I would also recommend Ateez, Stray Kids, and Seventeen. Those groups also have a huge range in their music and some of the most incredible lyrics and performances I’ve ever seen.
Overall I’m so glad you are enjoying these new discoveries. Discovering kpop truly changed my life and some of these groups and their music are literally the reason I’m still here.

Hello, I just did a little marathon of some of your reactions on BTS and I must admit that I love it.
At times I'm focused on your reactions because I know what's coming in the MV so I'm waiting to see your reaction. And each time without exception I see myself when I discovered them, like you without any other knowledge of the group. It makes me nostalgic for those times.
You have just entered the BTS universe and your reactions are magical. So welcome to the ARMY family, take pleasure in discovering each of the members because they form BTS as each molecule once assembled forms a whole.
For me, BTS is like a sweet drug of joy, love, madness and kindness. I think you can see BTS in different ways, either as a fun and enjoyable time or as a hand you can hold onto because you know it will never let you down. It is personally in this last way that I live it because BTS came into my life when I was sinking into depression and it is their words, their joys of living, their strengths despite everything they had to go through that allowed me today to climb the slope to live more serenely with myself.
What I want to say is that they brought me a lot and that today I will be behind them no matter what, I will support them and love them unconditionally because I will be eternally grateful for the help that they brought me.
I am a 37 years old woman, mother of 2 children and I pass on the messages and values of BTS to them because this world in which we live badly needs it.
And yes, it was 7 young Koreans 10 years younger than me who gave me a life lesson, showed me the way and the strength to be myself and to accept it.
Today, I am in agreement with myself and I am living my best life and I sincerely hope that my childrens will not have to go through this one day, that they can flourish, live fully serenely as they wish.
I'm sorry, originally I just wanted to leave a little comment... but it got a little out of hand 😅

The album Map of the Soul 7 (to which ON and Black Swan correspond) was released on February 21, 2020, the pandemic caused them to cancel most of their promotional activities and their already sold out tour.
In 2020 they also released their album BE, in which the boys got involved in all aspects (cover, MV, image, photos, songs, etc.), in it they reflected their feelings about having to stop their activities, not having direct contact with ARMY, etc
The dancers in the MV are The Lab, their headquarters are in LA and they often participate in BTS performances and concerts in the US.
They have collaborated with various artists, be it feat, lyrics, composition, production... As a group, among others, I could mention Ed Sheeran (Make it right and Permission to dance), Steve Aoki (Mic Drop Remix, The truth untold, waste it in me), Desiigner (Mic Drop), The Chainsmokers (Best of me), Halsey (Boys with Luv) Nicky Minaj (Idol ft), Megan Thee Stallion (Butter Remix), Coldplay (My universe), Snoop Dogg and Benny White (Bad Decisions).
Individually you can find collaborations with Warren G, Wale, Becky G, Lil Nas X, Fall Out Boys, Juice WRLD, Max, Halsey, Charlie Puth, Anderson Park, Coldplay, J. Cole, among others.

The music for this video was recorded by the UCLA marching band and concert band along with the Blue Devils drum corps. The dancers are from a very well-known dance troop known as The Lab. This was filmed in the Los Angeles River basin at the Sepulveda dam in LA, of course.
While your assumption about the lyrics of this being applicable to the pandemic is not necessarily wrong because it certainly fits that scenario. This was originally more about the difficulties they faced getting to where they are today. You will learn more about that in the introduction videos.

Great choice, I love On Kinetic Manifesto! I got into BTS in 2020 and watched this in amazement. Had no idea who they were. Now I'm deep down the rabbit hole and not planning to leave anytime soon.
There are so many good introduction videos, it's worth it to watch several of them as they touch on different things.
Most of their performances have dance practice videos which show the choreo much better. They are phenomenal dancers as you have seen.
They started in 2013 and their budget was small, but now their MVs are epic and their cinematography is top tier.
The members all have solo work, especially the 3 rappers, RM, SUGA and J-Hope.
Their discography is >300 songs and there are multiple performances of many of their songs such as On.
For another different side of them, watch Home from their Jimmy Fallon week. It's during the pandemic so they filmed it in Korea but it's like a MV. Just get one with Eng captions. Enjoy💜💜💜

When BTS was first formed they lived in a tiny apartment in bunk beds, they had to give tickets away to there shows on the streets just to get people to go see them they where on the verg of disbanding and Bighit was nearly bankrupt, they trained 15 hrs a day to get there dancing to, perfection, running on a treadmill while singing to help with stamina to sing and dance at the same time, they are so professional as you can image they put 100% into there concerts there dancing and singing is so energetic they have often collapsed once off stage and needed oxygen to help then they are back on stage for next dance and song, they care about each other and are very protective of there BTS brothers and they care so much about there Army. Not all of them where natural dancers Jimin is a contemporary trained dancer and had never sung Rm was a Rapper before and was the first member of BTS, Jin one of main singers was pick by a bighit exe on the streets and asked to audition not the first time he had been picked on the streets Suga is a dancer and choreographs a lot of there routines, Jhope is also a Rapper and rapper V and junkook are singers also. They have broken so many music records but constantly get snubbed by the world music awards. A lot of there music lyrics is about loving yourself and not giving up and also to the naysayers who said they wouldn’t make it, but they didn’t give up. They wanted a song written that’s was upbeat Dynamite was there first full English song to be an upbeat number for their Army during the pandemic, it’s about enjoying the little things in life it was one of their first songs they didn’t co-write. Any I’ll leave here as I could go on. Hope this give you some insight to them.

Sir. Welcome to ARMY. I'm a 48 year old ARMY of almost 8 years. The amount of feels you will have going down the BTS rabbit hole will be immense. Dope was my first BTS experience and I was hooked before the music video was halfway over. I have to recommend a storyline of videos that go back to 2015 when I discovered them. First, watch I Need U (Original 19+ version only), Prologue, then Run. BTS are famous for long arching storylines in their songs and videos. They're the best musical choice I've ever made outside of Michael Jackson.

This song means a lot to me. I’m going through a tough time with my health and this song gives me that push that I need. It’s like it makes me feel it doesn’t matter what people say or think what matters is I’m doing it and how I’m feeling and I need to not let what others say get me down. That’s what this song is for me. I love it. And I love the way you react and I’m praying that more people find your channel and make you even more known :) ❤

i personally find how you come to your reactions with a fresh perspective/impressions refreshing and thoughtful. ARMY is a very diverse group, and even with the known or more popular messages in BTS songs, the lyrics can be interpreted in ways that can hit one's core differently, and that's part of the beauty and the appeal of their work. i've been following the group only since 2020 and have become well embedded in their work, but am still learning about the depths of this group. it's quite an endless but enriching rabbit hole to fall into lol 😅

If you're interested in a Bts Introduction then i would recommend you "a guide to Bts members: The bangtan 7" by Taylor Mari (this is the most shared video to others when it comes to Bts Introduction) In this video Bts's origin etc. is explained and all members are introduced. Thank you for being so respecfull towards Bts and their music, sadly they actually started with absolutely nothing

This is actually a bit before the pandemic... I really really love this song. It's just pure resilience. Suga basically says even if he falls to his knees, if he's not dead and buried, he'll rise again.
They have an earlier song called N.O. that ON sort of references - it's very defiant! - but to me this one is the answer to the question Black Swan is asking. What if I lose my passion? Who or what will be left? And then On comes along and says: I don't care, I'm never going to stop fighting. Bring it. It doesn't matter how afraid I am because I'm not giving up.
This one and Not Today (another earlier song) share that defiantly hopeful message, which is also pretty much how I live my life. I listen to them both on days when I'm tired of the fight. (I work in democracy reform & civil rights activism; there are a lot of challenging days.)
I know you've already done the Taylor guide, so you have the answers to some of these questions. 😁 I'm going to watch that next.
Everyone will request their favorites - please let your own curiosity guide you! But when you get a chance, I would love to see you react to a live performance of Magic Shop. It would be fine to go in with a bit of context if you want it, but I won't give you more info if you don't. It needs to be a live, or at least include one, and you'll understand why afterward. 💜
Borahae, friend. You're doing great. Don't worry about not knowing things - your honest guesses are good ones and it's so fun to watch you get wide-eyed 😂

Sienna Laulau, the then 19yr old choreographer, is the 1st person you see the young lady with drum at the head of tge first drumline. Samoan, and a choreographic genius! There are members of a drum band and dancers from The Lab who work with Sienna.

I love your reaction to both Black Swan and ON. Since you ended this reaction with some questions about BTS and its members there are several guides to BTS and my recommendation is either Bangtan 7 by Taylor Nakamoto or the most beautiful moment in life by Rice Squad. They are long however we armies love long videos. So if you don’t mind about the length of time we would just love it! BTS will not disappoint you, Borahae 💜!

    Love your interpretation ^^ !
In fact, it's about facing the hidden side of yourself, your shadows (fear, trauma, shame etc...) It's based on the map of the soul of Jung. The both worlds that they talk about are "conscious" where you found Ego and Persona, "unconscious" where you found your shadows. "Gotta go insane to stay sane" means that humans run away from pain, it's instinctive. We try to avoid any situation that can cause us pain, but, to be totaly yourself, you have to accept your fears, your traumas, your shames. So you have to do something insane, confront your pain ("Bring the pain") to stay sane, becoming yourself.

In the front row in the middle is Sienna. She is the choreographer. The backup dancers are hers called The Lab. She choreographed "Set Me Free". Yes. with The Lab. Jimin's new song. "Going insane to be sane." Jimin borrowed that lyric. It's in his song too. There's so much to tell you. I'll write more later. It's a process to learn it all. So glad you appreciate their talent. Excellent reaction.
