Very cool, creative project. I really enjoyed watching the process from beginning to end and the finished product is amazing and beautiful. You are a true craftsman. Also, the music made me want to stick a screwdriver into my one good ear.
1:48 SPONGE BOB!!! That looks SO COOL...a great way to use waste and profit...and to reuse. That red wood really makes it POP! What is that? I love that turquoise looking thing in there. Wow..super cool piece.
Thanks again Morgan, I am not sure what the spalted bottom was, I think it's maple but not sure, pecan isn't something I have available very often to turn
When I first saw how the block of wood looked in the bottom of the resin, I didn't think I'd like it. However, when your turned it until the corners were curved up on the bottom, and then it became the wood center on the inside - I definitely became a fan. I continue to enjoy your work, and the music is fine.
I was wondering how in the world all that resin wouldn't look tacky after it was carved. I'm blown away by the final results. If he showed me before and after pictures of each item, I'd be having a very hard time believing each one is same item unless I saw the videos!
Nice job, turned better then I thought it would. I really wasn't on board with the level of epoxy you poured, but it turned out pretty rad. Again, nice job man.... keep up the good work👍👍
are you picking on me for my lisp ? lol I can't change that oops on the TH-cam side, I made that mistake while editing it and never caught it, I loose the views if I take it down so I just take the badgering about it. lol Thanks for Wathing !
I wish I had someone like you to learn from, but out here in west Texas there aren’t many people who even know what a lathe is, much less give advice on one.
Billy Burt is in Texas, th-cam.com/channels/k6YGwd7-29L_XAlUd_pzIA.html, I'm sure there is some kind of Guild for woodworking or woodturning there some place, I didn't even know they existed here until recently.
That’s a lot of work for a tiny bowl. Looks very nice at the end. Maybe make a whole set of plates and glasses for a fancy dinner? Maybe use different woods for the base/bottom too?
it was fun and a good way to use up left over pieces of wood, I have made may in different ways, they sell fast, the wood in the bottom of this one was because the resin I was using was for counter tops and didn't harden as well as other brands and would warp while turning. wrong resin I know but I was first starting out and that is what I could find at the time. Thanks for watching.
I'm just watching all of them and not paying attention to the date. LOL Also, the music was fine, if people don't like the music, they can turn down the volume, right? @@PohlBarnProductions
I was new to turning, filming and editing when I produced this video, I really hadn't intended on the world watching anything I was doing. LOL family at best, I hadn't intended on talking either, I probably should have, the resin I used in this project isn't intended for this purpose and doesn't cure hard enough for turning, yes you can do it but it warps and make it difficult to keep true, if you decide to try this get a resin designed for this purpose, I now use Alumilie slow set(that need a pressure pot) and or resin4art (found this one is good all around with or without pressure but it is pricey)and there are other out there, but this makes life so much easier, good luck with your turning, I'm glad you liked the video.
A stunning work of art! just brilliant. I'm new to turning but some day would love to give this a try but I bet the set up for the resin and pressure pot may be bit prohibitive for a while, so I've subbed and happy to keep watching, well done to you, regards, Tony(uk)
Thank you, If you're here in the States, Harbor Freight sells that pot fairly cheap and if you find the 20% off coupon they have every week or so that will help, I modified it to work for my needs. The resin is the pricey part ! oh wait I missed the UK part, sorry
Very nice bowl, I especially like how the darkened pattern on the bottom plank turned out. The only thing looking somewhat wrong (for me!😉) is that bottom is rectangular - somehow it's turning attention to it in a bad way🤔... But it's me😊
So what would happen if you made a scrap Bowl but included a lot of the wood shavings and even some of the resin shavings from previous pieces. Would that work?
Yes it would work. I'd have to save up on the really dark colored resin ribbons as most of it comes off to lightly colors and would most likely disappear when recast.
The carbide cutter are a bit grabby unless you are using a negative rake cutter, They make life easy but the cutter do wear out and are costly to replace. I've recently started using the traditional tools and I'm finding they are faster in the long run to use.
I have seen a few videos about sharpening them. Stumpy Nubs is from Michigan, as well, and he did one. But this is the one from the Craft Supplies Catalog people. Good to know about the negative rake version though. I bought a 3 piece set of diamond honing plates from Woodcraft. They were on sale for $10. Actually, I will find the Stumpy video too. It talks about the types of structures they have and why to get one type over the other. th-cam.com/video/kUOuAPimjP4/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/zBND6emsSE4/w-d-xo.html
I use a broken arrow inserted into the jacobs chuck, and a long enough screw to hold the cutters into the insert, on the lathe, it took a lil fiddling with it to get it to run somewhat center, then just touched the card to the old cutters on a angle to achieve a negative rake, they aren't perfect but it works, didn't have to just throw away the old dull cutter that way.
Thank you Nicole, I am sorry I don't even remember the songs names from back then, this was while I was learning to YT and still didn't know what I was doing.
The Pohl Barn Projects , well now how are you going to make another one exactly the same 🤔. The whole look of it and the colors match perfectly with my tables in my living room. Bummer man, but I am happy for you as far as another sale goes ✌
well it would be close but not exactly the same, I wasn't a fan of the big ol block of wood in the bottom but it sold just that fast. I have lots of scraps of the same to make another in that style.
I actually really liked the block on the bottom, especially from the outside. The way you rounded the corners up looked pretty cool. Definitely a cool piece.
Very cool, creative project. I really enjoyed watching the process from beginning to end and the finished product is amazing and beautiful. You are a true craftsman. Also, the music made me want to stick a screwdriver into my one good ear.
Don't do that, just turn it down, one of my older videos when I was first learning how to edit and all, Glad you like the bowl, sorry about the music.
Coolest scrap brown I’ve seen. I’m making one now with paduke, walnut, Purple Heart, maple, cherry and oak scraps
Until I started watching these videos I couldn't imagine anything this beautiful being made from scraps
Thank You James, funny how that happens
@@PohlBarnProductions you're welcome sir

Loved the way all the way the different pieces of wood came together. Beautiful work. Great bowl.

Nice work! First bowl I liked built this way ! Good job not wasting expensive resin ! 👍💪👏

You can imagine these projects at the start, but the end surpasses that imagination.
Thank you Ivan, you can start off with an Idea and it ends up being what it wants to be. that's what makes this so fun.

Good evening Doug,
I don't know why I haven't seen this video before but this piece turned out beautiful from a bunch of scraps. Nice job Doug.
Thank you David, yeah this video has all of a sudden taken off again.
Bits of wood covered in resin can produce such a awesome bowl

One of the better epoxy wood bowls I've seen. I love it! Why the pressure pot?
Thank you Traci. the pressure pot compresses air bubbles that were mixed in and it also helps control the exothermic reaction of the resin.

Hola buenas. Quisiera saber que proceso se le hace cuando se lo pone en ese contenedor que le ponen aire para q se seque? Disculpen mi ignorancia
Without waste production? And then you have the smaller the fragments, too, just to pour the resin(and there cones, shells(from nuts))))
Sehr schöne Arbeit Super TOP 👍👍👍
is it important to pressurise the epoxy? or will it work just as well without doing it?
it depends on the epoxy and how much you are pouring, some require pressure and others do not
