    First video I've seen that actually contains an explanation for why the inflow pipe should be level.

    This was a lot more informative than many vids I've seen, especially how the diverter feeds the water.

    absolutely brilliant - simple but thorough explanation of how to fix the diverter to the downpipe! so many videos out there that do not explain the why or how. thank you!!

    I recently purchased the 210l version from Wickes. It's OK at the price but two small problems I had, (1) the tap leaked and (2) the flow from the butt was very slow.
    I removed the tap and drilled out the butt with a 10mm drill, it had been drilled with a very small drill and the plastic swarf not removed. This improved the flow enormously. I then reassembled the tap and put some PTFE tape on the threads and some sealer each side of the washer. This cured the leak.
    All in all not a bad buy for £38. If you have installed the diverter too high and it overflows simply drill out the other filler hole and attach a flexible pipe to the drain as an overflow.

    Very helpful thanks, couldn't quite get it about cutting the section out, all clear now. Only thing left to do is fit them both.

    For a similar Ward system. First cut on downpipe should be level with mid-hole in butt, (make sure your downpipe is fully pushed up into gutter socket first), then cut a 25mm section above the first cut on downpipe and discard the scrap to allow room for device to fit in the run. Fitting too high on the downpipe will mean the flow wont divert back into drain on ground early enough and may over fill the butt however there is usually enough body above the butt entry point to allow a bit of error.

    The printed instructions are unclear as where you cut the pipe. The same goes for this video. I love the way the guy puts his finger on the pipe (2.44).It should be made clear that the cut is done accurately. 20mm can make all the difference between the butt overflowing and not filling up. You would think that the manufacturer (or distributor) of this kit would make a professional attempt as to give clear instructions.

    A useful little video for people who buy your rain butts - if you can find it! Might I suggest that you add "Ward" or "Strata Products" to the title of the video to make a specific search easier?

      I watched the videos marked "Ward" (the one B&Q sell) and they were useless. Just realised the kit has Strata on it, 2 minutes later I'm here and now I feel confident I can tell my nephew what to do when he comes over and fits it for me.

    In this video the lady says cut out 4cm of the downpipe section but in paper instructions that come with the water butt it says 2.5cm (25mm). Which is it and does it matter?

    I have recently purchased a rain barrel and diverter.
    I have a question about the installation though. All of the tutorials I have found online install the diverter on the same height as the rainbarrel's entrance hole (= water level). I understand that you should not install it beneath the water level of the barrel., as that will prevent it from filling up properly.
    In my case I would like to install the diverter about 70 cm higher up on the pipe than the entrance of the barrel. Logic tells me it might still work, but I haven't tried and haven't found any examples of it being done that way. I would love to hear your input!

      Hi I've just installed this same water barrel and diverter. I installed it exactly the same as this video only to find the water butt over flowed. This morning I've had to drain the water butt and higher it slightly. By putting it on a concrete slab this has made the pipe from the downpipe to the butt virtually straight. just a tiny little fall is all you need. In this video it's too high and won't let the water go back down the drainpipe. so putting it 70cm up the pipe will 100 percent over flow the water barrel. Hope that helps

    • @marlenedietrich3639
      @marlenedietrich3639 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree. The most critical part of the installation is where to cut the downpipe and at that point she stands in front of the water butt blocking the camera.

    • @AntonGully
      @AntonGully 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Holding the adapter so the hole in the butt and the hose connector on the adapter are level, the first, lower cut will be in line with the bottom of the adapter, because the adapter will sit on top of the cut pipe, and the second cut is then 40mm above that. It may say 25mm in the instructions but you can clearly see they cut a wider gap than that in the video so the 40mm seems about right. If you cut the gap a smidge high it shouldn't matter. If you cut it a smidge low you could have problems, as water doesn't generally run up hill.
