    Commons are supposed to be pretty common in Magic: the Gathering. However, some commons really aren't very common. In this video, I take a look at the most expensive blue Commons in the game, and explain what makes them so expensive.

    Arcane Denial can be "cycled" too. Sometimes if they need cards, people play a storm spell and then counter one of the copies to draw all 3 cards themselves.

      When I started playing Commander, I had completely forgotten about these two cards. I had/have two Korean copies of Rhystic Study from opening Prophecy boosters and a copy of Mystic Remora in my bulk. 😂

      @Rorschachqp หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just a suggestion but it's probably better to use "Remora", which is a rather unique word, to describe Mystic Remora. There are too many cards with the word "Mystic" in them.

    Poor timing on the list, cerulean wisps just jumped up to $10 as a shadowmoor common, giving the list a new #2 and making arcane denial an honorable mention. Gotta love it going infinite with a new face commander from the spellslinger OTC.

      The card it combos with is Stella Lee, Wildcard, for anyone interested. I’m honestly shocked it took this long for that card to find an infinite combo. Were there no other creatures that can tap to copy a spell?

      @@whats_up_gamer2062 correct. There's probably a more involved combo using something like kiki jiki and dualcaster mage, but Stella is the first card that taps to copy an instant for free

      @@SomeGuy712x pretty sure I have one :3 I actually own half the cards on this list n most of the cards on the list r in the Niv-Mizzet deck I just made this past month (so I guess those missing cards will be a bit costly for commons) n no. I don't rock Parun, Firemind all the way baby. My pod isn't filled with counterspells so at leastvfor now I prefer the option to ramp into it which is harder with Parun do to it having no generic mana

    I play hydroblast over blue elemental blast in Orvar so I can target my own permanents to duplicate if I want to. I can also target any non colorless permanent, and then use whim of volrath to change the word red to something else.

      I'm surprised Nizzahon didn't mention that you can counter your own spell with Arcane Denial to get 3 card draws that way, kinda like a poor man's Ancestral Recall. It's even better if you can target a spell of yours that can't be countered.

      I would have thought it was on the list for sure. I looked at TCG and the market price for Arabian version is $13.50 which would put it at #2. But you can get played versions for $3. So I guess it would have been close to #10 at its cheapest version.

    (1:27) I got lucky to pull an Arcane Denial out of a 10-cent bulk box at a store recently.
    (4:07) Interestingly, I happen to own Merchant Scrolls from both Homelands and 8th Edition.
    (5:10) Actually, the 8th Edition printing is from 2003, not 2007.
    (9:14) I've got a bunch of Time Spiral cards, and yet I somehow don't own an Ophidian Eye, which kinda bothers me. Maybe I can get lucky to find one in a bulk box someday?
    (13:08) Oh, yeah. It's easily Rhystic Study that is #1, of course. I don't own any version of it myself at this time, but there is at least one from Prophecy in my dad's collection.

    Yeah, Though Scour is pretty much strictly better, but there are some lovely edge cases where that technically isn't true. You can't mill the opponent if they have something like Leyline of Sanctity (which makes the two essentially equal), and you can't mill yourself if you have something like True Believer in play.

    • @BCWasbrough
      @BCWasbrough หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In 1v1 formats, and especially Limited, it wasn't viewed as efficient enough of card draw to be worth the upkeep. The format was so slow that it was easy to just play creatures or do nothing while your opponent's remora became unsustainable. Also Ice Age was horrible for draft and sealed deck, as the set wasn't designed for limited formats, so it was rarely drafted.
