    Our world is so caught up with labels and putting people in boxes. If you are raw vegan, but eat cooked food on occasion, you are still eating an incredibly healthy diet. I think using our diet as a means for identity is bs. You have been an inspiration and will continue to be an inspiration to me because you are eating incredibly healthy and that's what matters. Your recipes are incredible and thank you for posting this.

    • @SincerelyShireen
      @SincerelyShireen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think people use it to identify as a way to label or box themselves in. Most if not all people use it to explain how and what they eat. It's called using language. What's wrong with that?

    • @jake9480
      @jake9480 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@SincerelyShireen I disagree with your statement that most if not all people are simply using it to describe how they eat. I haven’t found that to be the case coming from someone that eats a 100% raw vegan diet. Many who identify as ‘raw vegan’ believe their way of eating to be a major component in who they are as a person. A perfect example of this, is the people who tried to tear down John for eating some heat processed foods and say that he isn’t a raw foodist anymore even though 95% of his caloric intake comes from raw foods.

    • @jake9480
      @jake9480 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I’d also like to add that this is most likely the reason why John feels the need to clarify so much on his eating habits. Although I value his transparency, he tends to repeat himself sometimes and it comes from feedback he’s received from people eating a raw food diet and the ways in which many view cooked foods as toxic and will tell you that you aren’t a raw foodist if you eat any cooked food at all.

    Yes i agree with John. I was completely raw vegan and I started to never be satisfied even though eating way and beyond my calorie needs, tired and depressed. My health suffered. My naturopath suggested adding in cooked root vegetables to help my gut micro biome….and the results are amazing. I feel it was the different fibre and wider diversity I gained like john talks about. I’m all raw, but adding small amounts of cooked root vegetables. It also adds more enjoyment, mental thinking and social interaction. Thankyou for this video john. You are a great inspiration 😀

      Just a thought - you do not need someone else to eat a certain way for you to not feel guilty eating in a manner that is best for you! Trust your body and eat what and how makes you feel happy and healthy. Eating raw has never been scientifically proven to be healthier than a whole foods plant based diet with lots of cooked foods.

    • @kathrynkij5979
      @kathrynkij5979 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@Laura-je2uw actually for years I tried healing my health problems with a cooked plant base diet and never saw any difference. Doctors used to have me on almost 20 meds at a time and told me I would never have kids. After 6 months of raw I was taken off all my meds, and within a year my periods were like clockwork and I got pregnant with my son. So you may be able to get the same results with extra help from a Naturopath and supplements, but if you want the fastest healing possible without supplements then Raw works wonders.

    Actually, in many cases, 'cooking' increases the bio-availability of many phytochemicals.......in Greece wild greens are a staple, but it is the cooking that dramatically increases the bio-availability of the important beneficial phytochemicals contained in them.......cooking tomatoes in good olive is another example (for the lycopene), as are the cooking of berries (breaks down the cellular shield that blocks the absorption of the beneficial compounds).

    I’ve been saying this for years. All of these raw food channels on TH-cam who were strictly raw were missing some things about health. There are certain foods that when cooked have many benefits. There is nothing wrong with eating a more balanced diet, raw food when appropriate and some cooked. Many will never stick to a 100 percent raw diet and can actually do more harm than good trying. Everyone’s body needs different things it’s not a one size fits all. Some people thrive being vegan or vegetarian while others develope health issues from it. I’ve seen it before when someone wants so badly to be vegetarian and their body can’t deal with it, add a bit of cooked food and bingo, they bounce back and thrive. I wish more people would understand this.

    instead of cooking the mushrooms u can alternatively also dehydrate the mushrooms at a non-raw temperature in the dehydrator (id imagine u heat them to get rid of that weak carcinogenic substance in them)...and then powder them and use them as a dressing thickener/umami agent - definitely more taste intense than boring boiled mushrooms

The typical diet consists of a smaller number of foods because so many foods belong to the same food groups like brassica foods. I enjoy all you r effort made to teach what you do to others. John, one thing I'd challenge you to consider (since I know you're big on learning about the gut microbiome) - you've mentioned that you're not big on smoothies (but it seems you are big on juices). Pulp is fiber. It's what actually feeds gut bacteria. When you remove fiber by juicing, you basically take out the food for these different species living in your gut (juice doesn't make it there). Unless you eat that pulp in another form?

    i call myself high raw...i eat frozen corn and pea all the time. on occasion i'll also have carnelian beans in the bag that was prepared in sea salt. but i'm constantly reading ingredients and seeking out fresh organic food as well as food that my body tolerates that is not organic. and i want to prepare healthy food for vegans that aren't quite at the high raw stage so I'm constantly tasting and testing.

      Idk why no one has suggested this, but you should go to a doctor to have your nutrient levels checked. Hair loss can be a sign of deficiency in nutrients such as iron and iodine.

    this is what happened to me a few weeks ago. I started eating boiled veggies, and a few days later i started craving cooked indian food. Now I am addicted to cooked food again, and it triggers overeating (of cooked food). On raw food, I was not enjoying the process of eating that much. It was more ascetic. But the cooked food, triggers the pleasure factor like crazy, and then addiction sets in. I look at John now and he looks already 10 years older on "healthy, but dead" cooked potatoes and beans. For me switching to raw food means sacrificing the insane pleasure of eating cooked food - it is a huge sacrifce, worth it in the end.... With raw food, the body looks youthful and the craving "to eat a lot of tasty cooked food" is not there. People who eat cooked food look significantly older than raw foodists - this is the proof for me on which method is right.

I would hope that you are just using some sort of self tanner. if not, you look extremely jaundiced and yellow. Heat processed is just too funny. Raw is fine, but just so limiting. Some of us love grains and beans, and legumes and on and on and on. We can't all be living in sunny climes and enduring constant drought. Plants for the win.
