Sir, I just wanted to write and say thank you. While I'd long been involved in modern pocket knives, I'd never much delved beyond those. I was very function over form biased. Discovering your channel years ago changed all of that! Absolutely blew me away!!! I'd never even heard of Lagiuole let alone Fontenille Pataud and I was awe struck with the elegance. I couldn't afford an FP knife for a good while I couldn't justify the luxury of any nicer French knife. I needed my hard-working folders and money was tight. But as time passed I was able to get a couple Chambriard Compacts and far from quenching the fire, those little gems only stoked the flames. Alas, just today, I received my first Fontenille Pataud, a Lagiuole, and I'm absolutely smitten. It has taken me years but I couldn't be happier! Thank you Stefan for your awesome videos that grabbed my attention long enough to be enthralled and inspired. For many years now, I direct every person I think might be even remotely interested to your channel. Even non-knife people but who may love whine or food or just nice things. No one delivers solid info with more class than you. A true TH-cam oasis. All my best. :)
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm thrilled to hear that my videos have been able to captivate and inspire you, and that you've been spreading the word about my channel to others. I'm honored to be considered a "TH-cam oasis". Thank you again!
Such amazing and beautiful knives! This well made video of yours made me buy a knife from Fontenille Pataud. Thank you for sharing your unique knowledge Stefan. Your videos are missed. Take care! Regards from Sweden
Beautiful knife and a wonderful mix of tradition and modern features. The stop pin is a worthwhile addition, and I very much like the way the lock back is designed to flow with the lines of the knife. Thanks for another polished review Stefan.
Wirklich, wirklich ein beeindruckendes Finish, wie ich finde! Der Abschluss des Griffes gefällt mir sehr, ebenso die vielen Pins, welche in den Griff eingelassen wurden. Musik gefiel auch. :-) LG Stephan
hello my name is Austin from the US i just bought a laguiole en aubrac and i am waiting for it in the mail. i just wanted to tell you that you videos on European cutlery extremely helpful and after i recover from Christmas i want to get a laguiole from this brand as well.
Thank you for this review, you're one of the main reasons that I just ordered a Nature knife from Fontenille-Pataud (with a buffalo bark handle). This will be my first laguiole knife. Have you ever handeled the Gentleman folder by Fontenille-Pataud? Again thank you for this review, and Gilles Steinberg should thank you too (:
Where's the food?! The exquisite cheeses? The wine, the meat?! Just kidding, man. The best knife reviews on TH-cam as usual. Thank you for the great presentation.
Hallo, tolles Messer mit einem super Design, auch wieder ein gut gemachtes Video, wie alle anderen auch. Bei deinen Videos kann ich noch viel lernen. Hab jetzt Deinen Kanal abonniert. LG Ingo
Well, that's typical ! Normally your vids make me feel hungry, so this time I made myself a small sandwich to be ready for it. But this time there was no food shown, lol. Oh well, the sandwich was nice anyway And that knife is really pretty, so it all turned out well in the end :).
From the picture it looked like carbon fiber scales. I thought wouldn't one of these be cool with carbon fiber scales. Just a complete turn around from what they're usually making.
Another thing. The only time I ever nicked my self in a shop. Was with one of these things. To keep those fingers away from the blade when snapping it shut.
There's no such thing like a "true" Laguiole knife. There are only poorly made and well made Laguioles. If you want to be sure that you get a handcrafted Laguiole knife that is made in France go for one of these three brands: Fontenille Pataud, Forge de Laguiole or Laguiole en Aubrac. Since I don't know where you live I can't recommend any website to you.
I was wondering if you knew of any italian stiletto switchblades, or Italian companies that make quality switchblades also known as the river boat gambler. I know that Great Eastern Company makes a river boat gambler but not a switchblade.

Thank you very much for your kind words, Mark!
That's a stunner Stefan - I really like the pins in the handle scales. I've never regretted choosing Fontenille Pataud for my Laguiole :-)

My complements to the French craftsman who construct these beautiful knifes. I will be purchasing one soon.

Wonderful knife ! great review Stefan.
Have the same with olive scales.
Another great review. You showcase some of the most elegant knives out there - pleasantly refreshing in a sea of knife reviews.
Your voice is like a dream.
It must be a nightmarish dream for every native English speaker. 😂

Do you still have this knife
Yes, I still have it and I won't sell it.
From the picture it looked like carbon fiber scales. I thought wouldn't one of these be cool with carbon fiber scales. Just a complete turn around from what they're usually making.
Beautiful knife.

Any tips on the best site, for getting a true Laguiole knife?

Yeah ofc, im from Denmark.
Kasper www.couteaux-berthier.com/
They are located in France and have a large selection of French knives.
How come some Herbertz is reviewing the same knife? Does Gilles send out knives for you to review, rather than you actually owning the review knife?
I own the knife, and I did the Herbertz video.
***** Ah, everything becomes clear. Thank you, Stefan.
MrKeyboardCommando Btw, Herbertz is Europe's largest knife distributor.
Is this a gentleman's pocket knife stefan?
There's no strict definition of a gentleman's knife but I would categorize the Laguiole Nature as such.
I was wondering if you knew of any italian stiletto switchblades, or Italian companies that make quality switchblades also known as the river boat gambler. I know that Great Eastern Company makes a river boat gambler but not a switchblade.
blk stone I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with Italian switchblades. Automatic out-the-front knives are illegal here in Germany.
It Is ok, but I prefear the shperds cross.
