Could I ask why you have insulation foam round your fishing net? Is it to get the net to float or is it to give the fish some cushioning as they enter the net?
Hi Brian yes purely to make it float, makes it easy to leave the fish in the net to recover if you want to. Also stops the net sinking if it falls off while wading and catching on a root or something. You can also balance your rod and reel on it but I rarely do this as I have my belt rod holder.
Hi James, thanks for the comment. Do you have any tying info re size/gape of hook for the beetle pattern? I do fish a small sinking beetle but for some reason forgot to try it on this particular evening ( heat of the moment I guess). I also carry a black deerhair beetle pattern but have never really done any good with it. I'm happy to give anything a try on those obstinate Taw trout!
Hi Simon The reel is a Scierra Traxion 1 3Four . I'm not sure if they make it anymore but the replacement appears to be the Traxion 1 LW. Looks like a nice reel and not badly priced. That said I have an old Rimfly mini that is still in perfect working order, this type of fishing doesn't really place high demands on your reel. A wee foam ant or beetle might have done the trick nice video👍
