Thx! I was about to delete the game on my ally for stuttering, and I saw the video! The bios settings is a life saver.
Did you change it in the Bios settings or in the Armoury Crate settings?

If this is your first PC handheld be warned more big PC games are requiring online connection because of those annoying launchers. I'm afraid this will only get worst the more popular PC handhelds will get.

This thing is so badass that I almost regret buying Steam Deck. But Steam Deck was a necessity to get me (and other consumers) interested in these devices AND push the overall market to compete at a pricing structure closer to the mainstream and casual gaming markets (consoles & lower end gaming PC's)
It's 800€ in Europe and I want it for ps3 emulation and had an upgrade path...

As someone who owns both, tbh the steam deck still takes the cake for me in terms of overall usability. I was really hoping that the freesync screen would be the magic cake that makes every game play smooth, but unfortunately it requires even more tinkering than the deck so far :/ windows is just not an ideal platform for these types of devices
@@ImpulseBuilds I've had a deck since day one, and two decks since not long after that. I got my ROG 3 days ago and I'm with you right now. Sure the Ally is more performant, but to get there is mainly hassle and it's all due to Windows. I'm not about to get rid of the Ally, and I'm still messing with it trying to streamline things but since I don't play EAC games, for me the deck just works.
@@drawfull I've got my eye on chimera OS development for the Ally. Once they get the bugs worked out it should be a pretty similar experience to steam OS
I think, the APU for handheld PCs should come with 32GB of RAM as standard to fix these problems.
Thats why ayaneo 2s now offers 64gb ram with 12gb v ram

While I love 60 FPS, I don't expect any current handheld to maintain that for a AAA game. As a gamer that was around at the dawn of the 3D era on consoles, I find 30 FPS acceptable for a current handheld and it doesn't bother me. 40 is great, though. 5-7 years from now though, and I *expect* no less than 60 FPS from every game. We'll see how it goes.
40 and 45 is a sweet spot
First game I'm getting as soon as my Ally arrives!
Honestly I’m fine with 40fps, it feels better than 30 and it sips the battery life. For more demanding games it is very helpful. Been playing System Shock remake on my Steam deck and it rocks it at 40, can get about 3 hours on that game. It can hit 60 but not steadily, rather have the steady 40. I am looking forward to my Ally next week, really curious to see how I will like it.

40 is actually a good experience on a 120hz display since it goes into it evenly

@@fara-sara well it’s a number that divides evenly so this would eliminate stuff like screen tearing as long as the framerate and frame timing is reliable.
48fps is perfect on VRR screen. 2 times 24fps = 2 times fluidity of cinema movie.

When it comes to the 7000 series handheld systems, the performance differences wont be anywhere near as important as the other factors like battery, screen, size, supporting software .....
I cant even run this on my ally without it stuttering like crazy even on low plugged in turbo . Have no idea what's up with my ally

For me a battery is not an issue but suttering or slowdowns or drops are big big issues. Smoth gameplay even in 30-40 fps is all i need...

In comparison to the steam deck this is killing it for this game. But i still respect the deck for what it is! This device seems more serious handheld gaming whereas the deck is more casual with its console like experience and lower power

The real problem with the Ally's battery life isn't the 50 minute bettery IMO. That's just expanded choice for the user and a result of physics being physics. The problem is that doing really simple things like game streaming or running basic 2D games the device only lasts about 3 to 4 hours.
@@mechanicalmonk2020 why is that a problem you should have found a power source by then anyway and after 3hrs c'mon you could use a break anyway lmao. Also 30 minutes to 50% with the included charger. It's only an issue if you make it one

I'm planning on saving my money to get this one. Wanting a PC, but ones at my budget. Seeing how I loved my Switch OLED, I wanted another handheld, even if the battery doesn't last as long as the Switch OLED, I get to play my games on Steam I never able to played for yesrs. Also, be a really good device for Xbox Remote Play, and knowing Sony slowly bringing their games to Steam is a plus as well. All on portable, which is a plus in my book.

When you say you went into the BIOS and change the VRAM, how did you do that on this thing?
For anyone else with this issue… go into Armory crate, operating mode, gpu settings, and there you can change it.
Is there a website or database people are building for game settings? TDP settings etc or do we have to just guess and test every game ourselves??

I plan to be on turbo plugged in 99% of the time, and I feel like most people will set their settings for low watt/unplugged.
I honestly just download handheld companion and set my autotdp to the FPS I want to achieve. It does all the work for me.

Im new on pc gaming. Gamed my entire life on console. Hope you can make a page or something for suggestions on how to set performance and quality on games in the ally. In my case i prefer hi graphics and 60 or up fps. I know battery is a limitation but doesn’t bother me.

I couldn't agree more, we definitely need to see which handheld is better because I have heard they Rog ally is not as good as the 7840u handhelds when it comes to performance

Are you using RSR? You said this is on low but are you using quality, balanced or performance in the FSR settings?
Annoying that you need to drop the vram to auto though. Some games can't take advantage of the variable vram and will crash with out of memory errors 😞
Interesting, I've never really used APUs in a PC environment. Maybe now that it's becoming more of a thing hence the steam deck and ally are here developers will better optimize on the PC platform to accommodate for these devices. I'd hope so at least.

Even trying to go for 60 frames on a portable system, even one as powerful as the Ally is kind of a silly thing to go for. None of these handhelds are really there yet. So I'd much rather settle for a smoother 30 frame experience because that's what you should be doing with these AAA games in these

Just a helpful tip. Next time zoom into the screen a bit more, looking at your hands isn’t doing much for me and is a complete waste of screen space.

On my handheld, unless I get constant 60fps high settings, I stream from gaming pc rather than play native.

You Can’t buy the deck at 400 and just use at it, you need to either buy a sd card or change the ssd to a bigger one because you Can’t go with 64gb, at the end you will spend more than $500~ for start. And you need to compare the 512gb with the ally, so its only $50 more not $300.

@@demitri7303 its better than the deck but i wouldn’t say way better. There are sacrifices for having a device running at 120Hz and as for the button layout and back buttons with trackpads id say the deck takes that. But overall obviously the Ally is more powerful its a newer system by over a year. But one also has to take into consideration if windows will give as frequent updates and user support as steamdecks valve support which so far has been top notch. To call a deck a sh*tdeck kind of makes you sound like a clown because its far from it. Deck is the best handheld gaming console out right now second to the switch. I like the competition because if the Ally lives up to the hype then ill order one and dock it right next to my deck.

Anyone having sound issues. I can't get the game running without crackles and pops. It comes on quite quickly. Only happens on this game.

(Activision & MWII) Could you look into this running on steam deck with windows I was game banned when doing this I have also seen other reports on the Internet of the same thing but know one is bringing this to light. As far as I can tell its to do with the anti cheat not recognizing the hardware.

Incredible, wow. 720p low with Ayaneo Geek with 6800u cannot even touch 50fps, and it is more expensive! Those who purchased the Ayaneo Geek early this year now have buyer's remorse.
How many years do you think this would be able to run aaa games at at minimum 30fps.

idk, Linus of LTT & Russ? Retro Game Corps both playing Tears of the Kingdom on Ally, not Switch.
Not sure if Muta (SomeOrdinaryGamers) was playing on Steam Deck.
What I do know is none of these TH-camrs are playing on Switch, even though they own one and the game.
Much better. The Z1 chip is ridiculously good for emulation in general. I have seen people test very difficult to emulate games like Infamous on the RPCS3 emulator (PS3) and it goes above 30fps (35-40fps) with no sweat.
With the right config, I'm sure ToTK will be playable just fine on Yuzu.

At 23 TDP will be around an hour while 15 TDP maybe 90 minutes for demanding games. As he said the power usage will vary in this game even set to 23 TDP.

Glad to see how well games are running on this thing. Not planning on picking up the ROG Ally because I'm more than satisfied with my Steam Deck. If i want to play more demanding games at better framerates I'll play on my laptop or desktop.

It is indeed almost twice the performance of Steam Deck, just as Asus claimed. My Steam Deck can only play 28 to 40fps at low settings with FSR 2 at balanced (Hogsmead area) . Goodbye, Steam Deck.
