    I'm new to your channel. I found it very informative. Not sure why you didn't cut out the window before you left the wall though..... But I never built a home before.

    is there a clip of you joining an interier wall to an exterior wall so I can see how the corners look? I like how you mentioned the pre fab where a wall is to be considered, just wondering if theres a clip of you placing one so i can see what its supposed to look like.... Great videos as always brother!! God bless!

    Very informative, as usual. What you could do, though it will be more editing work for you, is add labels on screen. Especially when you're using specific terminology, such as jack stud, cripple, etc. The kind of words people won't know unless they've built one themselves. You could also add product dimensions, like nails, or what tool brand you're using. Promo that Amazon affiliate stuff.

    When you were lifting the wall, at 0:01 and again at 17:48, I noticed that a strip of the OSB extended above the frame (maybe 1/4" - 1"2 inch). Was that intentional? If so, why? Was the wall frame 9' tall after the second top plate was attached, or before the 2nd top plate was attached? Did the OSB sheet top match up with the top of the 2nd top plate? If not, is that a big deal? What would you do to prevent a gap in between the wall sheathing on the 1st floor and the wall sheathing on a theoretical 2nd floor? I will be building a garage with two floors and it seems like there would be a gap between the sheathing that would have to be dealt with somehow. Thank you, I am really getting a lot out of your videos.

    Great videos Josh, I have a question, you explain pretty well about the layout and where to place headers but how high do you place them, is that in the plans too?

    • @maxwelljose2241
      @maxwelljose2241 ปีที่แล้ว

      The height and width of the RO(rough opening) for your window will be in the plans. He does a good job explaining but his marking is a little hard to read. Your header just has to be 3 inches (two Jack stud widths) wider than your RO. Easier way for me to think about it anyways

    If you start the sheathing flush with the first stud, won't it miss the stud on the other side 48" away? Do sheathing joints need to fall in the center of the studs?

    • @jrandall5736
      @jrandall5736 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it would miss if you laid out stud at 48”. It’s why as he explained you go back 3/4 inches from every 16” red mark on the measuring tape.
      So the 4’ end of your sheathing would actually break in middle of the stud you laid out at the 47 1/4 mark.
      Then again at the 95 1/4 laid out stud and so on.

    Wouldn’t you want your sheathing to overlap your subfloor a bit. Seems like if water gets behind your siding, it’s going to penetrate the outside edge of your subfloor.

    Your sheeting should go all the way down over to your sill plate. And it nails in with galvanized nails to your treated sill plate to tie it all together. Those two toe nailed nails into the floor joists won't hold that house down. Don't take my word for it ,look it up. Just a heads up!

  • @hongyiliu6078
    @hongyiliu6078 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    According to the code IRC R602.3.1, 16" is the max space between centers of two studs. But (almost) all youtubers measured the second stud starting at 15 1/4". If so, the on-center space between the first and the second studs is 15 1/4" which is 3/4" less than 16". It was not wrong but wasted 3/4" space. It is weird that so many senior framing guys say this was a trick. I totally disagree.

    • @jasonvangorp8632
      @jasonvangorp8632 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You put a stud on the end of wall making spacing narrower. You lay 16” center so when applying sheathing 48” will land on center of studs starting end of wall.

    • @hongyiliu6078
      @hongyiliu6078 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jasonvangorp8632 Thanks. That makes sense. The stud need to be on centers at 48", 96", 144" and 196" to install the 4-feet-wide drywall or OBS board.
