Cher didn't know that autotune was applied to her voice and the Mark was quite scared of what she would think but she liked it and insisted it was kept after Warner Bro's wanted it removed
I can't explain it but this made me cry. The end of an era. The end of the natural gives way to the digital age. And I mean, it sounds beautiful. But it's almost sad, it's almost as if something was lost. But that's life, the past is lost to the present. Something gained, but something lost.
That's not accurate at all mate. If you think no recording studio ever touched up the singer's voice before this point, you need to research a little more. And we're not even talking about digital effects, they were doing analog ones and messing with recordings since a long, long time ago. What has really changed is a) how many of these tools are available to the mixing aficionados and b) how much attention we pay to music to the point pitch correction is very common nowadays and we don't realize it.
@@Dark.Shingo Thank you for your clarification. I think my point was more metaphorical, undoubtedly we have reached a point where technology holds a greater and greater grip on us. Not necessarily a bad thing. Something gained, something lost.
theres no need to draw arbitrary distance between the natural world and the digital one, theyre all just part of the same big natural world. we didnt invent the materials to make computers, they have always been hiding in mountains and waiting for us to find them. idk, i mean feel how you want but theres just so much more positivity that can be drawn from the digital age and i want people to be happy and enjoy it
The tool has improved since then, and in many cases its use is absolutely transparent. Most mainstream music uses AT pitch correction features. What has changed since the 90s is how overexposed we've been to overdone AT.
Voiceover at the beginning is Melvyn Bragg so yes, almost certainly The South Bank Show, a long running arts show named after London Weekend Television studio's location.
Does anyone know what was the name of the autotune she used? Like how would I google it to see the exact software or hardware that she used? Not the current modern day unit but the exact one she used.
The version was just the very first release of Auto-Tune. The actual name of the software is just Auto-Tune, but the company's name that produces it is Antares. The very newest version, called AutoTune Pro, has a "Classic" mode that mimics the old days of Auto-Tune, which would be closer to the version you see in this video. Unfortunately, the version you see in the video is far outdated and likely no longer available and even if it were, it might not work properly in modern DAWs. I can't see Pro Tools or Cubase loading this old thing... but that's okay. Just grab AutoTune Pro, and enable the Classic mode and you're all set.
El autotune era un recurso para este tipo de música digital, era finales de un siglo en que el mundo se preparaba para la era moderna, era algo así como de pasar de andar a "caballo a automovil".
The amazing thing to me is that autotune just doesn’t sound good on certain voices. Even talented singers can sound all disjointed and weird on autotune. I don’t know what it is; there must be something about the timbre and low vibrato voice of Cher, because she sounds CONSISTENTLY GOOD on autotune, despite not even needing it. Something about her voice was just made for pairing with autotune.
It was ok on this song, but autotune ruins everything ever since! Her albums are pure crap since this with the robotic sound, every other artist with this dreadful metallic sound or straight out robot sound, just dreadful! It ruined the entire music business!
if they release a version without AutoTune, as part of an special anniversary edition... it will go back to #1...
that would be cool!! :D
it was recorded with the auto tune, so she’d have to re record it sadly
The auto tune adds charm
@@johndoe-jr7gc nope see the video...autotune in added later
The purpose of the AutoTune, is exactly what Cher wanted, the telephone effect...
Real masterpiece... Autotune with the right use..
And to think she initially didnt want to record it. A classic
I really like how believe sounds at 0:56 ! Wish there was a full version !

She definitely don't need autotune, but the autotune give a lil flavor to the song because it's dance 🕺🏾

You didnt understand the video
It helps she can sing.. Most people who use it can't sing anywhere near as good as Cher
OH talent man:*
What documentary or TV show is this originally from? Would love to watch more like this
Sounds like the south bank show to me

So not only Autotune, but also a filter (telephone like) effect.
Cool!
Release the version without autotune please!!!!
When auto-tune was use as voice effect to good singers, not as a voice fix for bad ones, like nowadays....

mama farts on auto tunes cos she a perfectionist
So this is the guy we need to go back in time and stop.
The autotune made an vocoded vibe to the vocals, intentional or not.
It is immediately clear that he understands music and wound up the autotune in the verses for a reason
And some folks think that.s the TBone effect
