  • Middle school teacher Ted Miller started his Conscious Discipline journey saying, "As if I don't have enough to freaking do! How many hours will I have to sit through for this?" After seeing Conscious Discipline's impact on his classroom, his mind and heart began to change. Now Ted sees his job in a very different way, "Conscious Discipline makes my job a breeze! I work with at-risk kids and the year before last I didn't have one kid pass the state test. I started using Conscious Discipline. My sixth grade [scores] went up quite a bit and my fifth grade? We went from 7 out of 23 passing to 19 out of 23 passing... Before I would teach a class and now I teach individuals." Watch and share Ted's inspiring transformation!

I wish they had this stuff when I was young. Now I am trying to learn this stuff at 49.

Holy shit! Mr Miller! You taught me in Houston at kashmere gardens. You were super cool. You used to play the banjo and bring us apple fritters.

The way it works is that you give that initial 10-15 minutes to do these rituals and it gets the children’s brain ready to work at its full potential. And the jobs that he assigns the children give them purpose and ownership of the classroom. Then the teacher can focus more on academics. The atmosphere is set for a school family

Kids from high-risk backgrounds and poverty have brains that are highly reactive to stress. When you are stressed, your higher brain functions are not working efficiently so learning is impaired. These activities get the students' brains in a mode that allows them to learn much more easily and efficiently. Besides that, it reduces behavior problems that disrupt the classroom.
