  • FILM Pastel Colors with EVERY Color Negative Film // Pt.1 Exposure Tutorial
    Many have been waiting for this and now it's finally here. My tutorial series is how I come to my pastel color style with each color negative film and self-scanned negative. From the beginning with the exposure of the negatives to the scanning and post-process in all the detail it needs. By the way, it's just my personal method if you have another one that works just as well then of course you can keep it.

    I have been waiting for this. Thanks for the interesting tips. I was wondering why my pictures never look like yours despite overexposure. Now I know the answer.

      thanks brendon 😄 maybe the mediocre german sun is also not enough for sunny 16 and so i have to use F8 :D

    Ansel Adam reviewed. The best accurate (not over and not under, just right) is to measure the darkest part of the frame and take it as the -2 area, hence 2 stops more for a perfect exposure (mentioned but not that clear in 5:20)

    • @TheBigNegative-PhotoChannel
      @TheBigNegative-PhotoChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey, Ansel Adams may have done that back in the day. However, there are a few more tricks for large format photography and I would never measure so sloppy for a large format picture.
      I also do not want to repeat what I had already said in the parts before. 😄

    Yay another video! great one and I always wondered how they got that Portra effect but then when I shot it, Portra came out so dark for me. The truth is out :) Thanks for making and sharing this!

    • @TheBigNegative-PhotoChannel
      @TheBigNegative-PhotoChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thank you, yes many in my kodak gold videos have noted that they themselves with portra never had the results they wanted. that's exactly why I'm doing this series. save money and still get the look you want :D

    This was an amazing video and very helpful since I just just purchased a Canon A1. Could I get the same “pastel” results shooting Portra 400 in Aperture Priority Mode; at ISO/200 & f16…and then develop at 400 box speed?

    • @TheBigNegative-PhotoChannel
      @TheBigNegative-PhotoChannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks to you, my first film camera was also an A1. You can also get the pastel colors with box speed, but it may well be that the shadows may become slightly dirty with cheaper films, but that should not happen with portra. However, F16 is already something very extreme there you have to pay attention to your shutter speed which should not be below 1/125 otherwise you probably have blurred images. Better would be shutter priority on 1/125 and the camera chooses the best aperture. I think you would have the least problems with this setup. 👌

      @@TheBigNegative-PhotoChannel Ok cool, I’ll be sure to do that. Thank you so much for the detailed feedback. I really appreciate it. I’ll be sure to let you know how they turn out.

    One little question, you rate gold at iso100 for metering, but, do you develop it at box speed (I mean 200) thanks a lot👍🏻👍🏻

  • @wk2139
    @wk2139 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    hi.. so, if i shot kodak gold 200 at 100, develop 200. it will overexposed pastel? 4:47. it will same if kodak portra 400 at 200, develop 400? thanks

    • @TheBigNegative-PhotoChannel
      @TheBigNegative-PhotoChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I expose my gold at iso 100 and develop it normally for iso 200. the look comes largely from set post production as in the lab. 😀
