What such an amazing story ! I have studied the causes if Magna Carta and the hated King John Plantagenet. Thanks for such an amazing story of Knigh Marshall.

Berenice, i think that without that balancing factor of Sir Marshall, political affairs would have gone into true chaos. And that is not to say that they didn't get bad, but the whole scene could have become much worse. And that was a difficult decision of loyalty he was required to choose. A regular, even exceptional person would probably not be able to pass that same test, coming out on the other side with his head on his shoulders. But he chose his honor!

If you are interested in William Marshall there is a fantastic six book series written by Elizabeth Chadwick starting with “A Place Beyond Courage” and moving through William Marshall’s full life - it is amazing and very well researched. Even better is to listen to each book - very well narrated - I recommend them all highly

It is important to remember that these books are fiction not history.

    • @Laurboy97
      @Laurboy97 ปีที่แล้ว

Those are fictional, so straight to the garbage pile when examining history

    • @SaphireSkyes

@@Laurboy97 It's called historical FICTION for a reason. AND History is what we believe it to be. So we can't really guarantee what is fact or what is fiction.
History, as we know it, is a collection of narratives recorded by those who had the means and power to do so. These narratives are often shaped by the perspectives, biases, and agendas of their authors. Over time, stories are retold, details are embellished or forgotten, and myths and legends can become interwoven with documented events. Even contemporary histories can be influenced by the prevailing ideologies and the historian's viewpoint. Our understanding of history is not always a definitive recounting of events but a mixture of interpretations, half-truths, and sometimes outright fabrications.

@@brandonroberts1638 I see where you're coming from, but it's my humble opinion that it's got to be Barristen Selmy. As Barristen could unhorse everyone but King Rhaegar Targaryen in their tourneys. Here, Marshal could unhorse even King Richard. It's a deliberate parallel.
Both were remarkable kingsguards all the same.

And driving the French away from invading England . . . incredible there isn't more about him in the regular histories of England. Not to mention that virtually no one EVER rose to rule ANY kingdom in Europe "honorably"--he did so through serving a succession of warring Plantagenets who trusted him even when he took the side of another against them.

All very fascinating. I love how his son took over and did so much work on Chepstow Castle which was a stones throw from where Isabel De Claire was buried next to her mother Aoife, under the choir at Tintern Abbey. It would've been a short horse ride for the son to make that Sunday sermon and to pay his respects to Isabel. As far as I can tell, I am a descendant through William De Warenne who was likely murdered in 1286....back through the Mapes line. In any case, I am grateful to have stumbled upon the Marshal.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” - John 3:16 KJV Bible
If you were to die today, are you 100% sure that you would go to heaven?
So, If God were to ask you, “Why should I let you into heaven?” What would you say?
Did you know that the Bible shows you how you can know for sure that when you die you will go to heaven?
If what you believed or learned was not true, would you want to know?
“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” - 1 John 5:13
Being 100% honest: Have you ever lied? stolen? hated someone? lusted after someone? Disobeyed parents? -- in your whole life?
    BAD NEWS
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” - Romans 3:23
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” - Romans 6:23

“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. “ - Revelation 20:15
“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. “ - Revelation 21:8
    GOOD NEWS
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” - Romans 5:8
    Gospel in detail:
“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the Scriptures:” - 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. “ - John 14:6
“And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. “ Acts 16: 30-31
“For by Grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” - Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” - John 3:16 KJV
“For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” - John 3:17
“He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” - John 3:18
“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. “ - John 3:36
“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” - John 10:28
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” - John 1:12
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. “ - Romans 10:9-13
