    I'm curious - you mention that the COS-11D can't be used because it's too sensitive. Can't you turn down the level or does it somehow clip before that moment of being able to turn the level down.

    • @thatjordandrake

      The amp on the Rode Wireless Go II can only be dropped so low, and the Cos-11 capsules will still peak.

      I would guess the Zoom F2 or other high dynamic range / FP32 recorders will handle it fine.
      For other systems, I honestly don’t know how to read all the mic + recorder specs to figure out if a mic is too hot. Some mics/sounds are just too hot for the lowest setting on recorders.
      I recall the Zoom H1 where some other the lowest settings would always peak (it just reduced the height, did not add any more range). Had a gaffer tape note on it regarding what was optimal recording level for medium sounds and what was lowest level without unnecessary peaking.

    • @djencode
      @djencode 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thatjordandrake by the way there are adapters you can buy that will convert the 3v TA5 connector to 48v XLR in case you want to do something that connects a cos-11 directly to a recorder. Also the best wireless lavalier microphone, and the one that is slowly taking over the industry is the DPA 4060 or the low profile 6060. I've worked on a number of Hollywood sets and have A/B'd those mics and the DPA is vastly superior. I have a 4061 (low sensitivity) but unfortunately I am having the same problem. And Trew Audio here in Vancouver is completely sold out :(

    Awesome video as always! I also use an S1H for a "Vice-like" documentary TH-cam channel as my job and it does exactly what we need from it. The LCD screen on it is extremely useful and easy to see in all conditions and the resolution makes it good enough to rely on for focus. The popular A7S3 is our B camera along the S1H (noise reduction on it prevents it from being our A camera). Still an amazing camera though!

I personally would go with the em1 mark II or em5 mark iii for budget if you don't need 10bit video, the ibis and phase detect can't be beat for the price plus the colors are nice out of camera. It's just annoying they break video files down to 3.7gb segments.

      I got some E-M1 IIs because of the reliable C-AF. The file chunking doesn't bother me, DaVinci Resolve easily arranges them using the timecode. What I miss is a log profile with 10bit, because i recognized some banding on skin tones with the 8 bit OM-Log 400. As a workaround, I use the flat profile, which does the job for my needs.

    I've usually tuned out the video reviews. However, as my interest in video has rapidly grown, Jordan's video segments are MUST SEE TV. I'll confess that I approach this as an hopeful enthusiast. I'd welcome future videos that focus on workflow with the different cameras. For example, what does a workflow look like for an enthusiast just picking up a G9? What sorts of edits are being made? What software tools and editing station are you using. How does this workflow differ for a S1H at the higher end or a Sony ZV1 at the entry level? Considering a price range that starts at $700 for the ZV1 and could rise to to almost $6K for an S1H (not counting post-production processing gear and software), practical understanding of the workflow remains a huge information void for an enthusiast.

    I love that you use the S1H. I've used Panasonic cameras for my business for 10+ years, starting with GH2 back in the day =). They've never let me down - amazing cameras and clients have always loved the image out of them. However, I do hope they have a small L-mount cine camera in the works with built-in NDs and competitive AF, because that's what I'm in the market for. Sony have the best small A + B cam ecosystem for video/cine at the moment and with their FX6 ND system and AF across their range it's becoming more and more tempting for the wide range of work I do (and low budget shorts on the side). I still think Panasonic win on colours (especially the S Series and EVA 1 with that colour fidelity/separation), build quality, ergonomics and menu systems but the tools on the Sonys are enticing. Please don't let me switch Panasonic! Love you guys!!

    Great video. I really enjoyed this. Question, though. Rode Wireless Go II directly into the camera only gives you one audio channel. I think that is right, isn't it? As usually only Jordan or Chris is talking at one time, this works. But what if they were talking to each other more than they do? Would they (you) keep the same setup or go through something like the Zoom H6 using XLR adapters to keep both Jordan and Chris' channels separate? Or maybe you'd just take each audio channel directly from the memory of each Rode Wireless Go II transmitter....and sync audio in post?

    • @cmqjapan
      @cmqjapan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found the answer. I was wrong. You can set the Rode Wireless Go II to Split Mode and then output to your camera as separate left and right channels that remain separate in the camera.

    I have found that post firmware 2.4 update that the G9 single area people detect autofocus is perfect for my auto focus need provide I keep the small autofocus box on the subject. It's almost flawless at the point. As for the rest... Autofocus is very usable but not dependable. When doing interviews I do manual focus anyway. I don't do selfie video blogs because I love my lenses...
