I got it and played it for a bit. I'ts incredible how you made such a visually intense and convoluted game yet it's readable while you are playing it. Also, somehow, I didn't get motionsick.
@@umamisoy I find I get motion sick more easily on mildly low FoV, over massively high FoV. It just needs to be the right kind of FoV, fisheye or cylindrical.

I know I’m commenting again but I’m addicted to this trailer. They’re one of the few developers that understand how effective this type of sound/visual stimuli is. Probably the closest thing we have to noise music in game form.
I'm a researcher/scholar in cognitive science and film studies, particularly focusing on experimental cinema that utilizes similar aesthetics of strobe effects and warped perspective and layers of aural noise, and I might genuinely embark on a project to study how this game elicits such visceral reactions, and to what ends they're elicited. I think this game can make for a seriously fascinating undertaking of the way aural & visual stimuli can completely transform the underlying gameplay mechanics, or at least work in tandem with them, to create a new way of 'feeling.' I love your description of "noise music in game form," there is undoubtedly a strong point of comparison there TBH.

This is very much old school Japanese games inspired with the doves and the odd abstract sounds and singing. Im trying to find the genre that this music is, where it gives you that surreal feel just by listening. May just be nostalgic for me though, as I swear ive seen a similar opening scene in some old ps2 game

For those genuinely confused, the insane FOV is for near 360 vision and whatever at the back is left of it, is what appears as red in your vision. Basically you are playing a 3d game like you would a 2d game: seeing in every direction at once.
i'm such an avid devil daggers fan i bought this before even seeing the trailer. just hit 100pts after about 5 hours of playtime, incredible game. the skill ceiling is astounding and the direct correlation between speed and score is such a groundbreaking evolution for the devil daggers arena formula.
Big agree on this, score is directly tied to performance and not to the duration you play for. You can muddle around for an hour and never go above 10 points. You're rewarded for precise aggression.
Sorath 'symbol' looks like the Seele logo from Evangelion. Also the 'Hyper Demon' font looks very similar to the English font used in NGA as well. Very cool. ✨ Can't wait to try this!

As well as the sounds they make, intensity increasing means they are closer, and the kind of sound can tell you more about what it is. HyperDemon gives you a lot of information, but its subtle and reflexive as to what it conveys. Practice, practice, practice and you will learn.

When I first learned about that game I watched videos and thought that the radar thingy was super cluttered but then I got the game and then everything made sense after just a bit of playing.

I have epilepsy, but not photo-sensitive. I have also never had full tonic-clonic seizure. But holy cow, I am afraid that this game would fry my brain.
If this game is like the first game it should have visual mods that could reduce the flashing, also try playing it at around 90 to 120 fov to reduce visual strain. Everyone should give this game a try. It really perfected the formula of the first game and gave it such a wild spin.

I should probably see if I can handle short gameplay vids first before just yeeting myself into the deep end. Do seizures have any kind of warning signs before they happen, or is it more of a 'you come to and realize what just happened' thing?
@@lzrshark617 there's no rule here. My seizures are focal ones, so only one area of brain is "glitching". I am concious, but with impaired awareness and they can produce many different effects. Sometimes I do not feel well and have headache before they occur, but other times they come and go within seconds. There are a lot of different types, in my case they mostly relate to altered time and space perception and deja vu, sometimes weird tastes. When I was not on medication I had "blink out" events when I was doing something, froze for a dozen of seconds and continued without noticing it at all. I've read that people with generalised epilepsy (whole brain glitches at once) usually are not aware when seizure starts and are confused afterwards, not recalling the event. But it's not so simple as some people have generalised seizures with focal origin, where at first only one part of the brain starts having a seizure and then incorrect inactivity "overflows" to other regions. In this scenario people usually feel warning signs and even have time to sit or lie down, so they won't hurt themselves falling. It is established that majority of people will experience a seizure of some kind during their lifetimes without having epilepsy. It is also not really possible to "get" an epilepsy just from one event related to bright flashes and so forth.

No joke, but I feel like you're actually onto something here. This game almost feels transhumanist in a way. There is no longer a player character or avatar, no more second-hand barrier between User and Game, but rather a merging of our own subjective experience into the canvas provided by Sorath. This feels like the first FPS game that is attempting to transcend traditional mechanics of Player Avatar, where the line is now blurred to the point of non-differentiation. Truly fascinating stuff.

Although the main goal is different, they have the same root and similar effects, which is emulating the simplicity of old era games to induce full immersion with newer technologies. Tetsuya also strived for transcendence, which is synesthesia (linking one cognitive sensory to another in reaction to stimulus that lasted outside of the game)

Thank your for such amazing games, I haven't yet been able to play them but from what I have seen these are true pieces of art that should be remembered.
If you think about it, this is the sequel portraying the protagonist that wields the Devil Dagger has ascended into a Hyper Demon after being locked in the hellish loop of fighting demons for 6 years, it isn't just their arm that changed this time.
