You have literally turned my life around machemguy! I was struggling with chemistry at the start of this year getting D's/E's in my mocks. After watching your videos and some hard work, I just achieved an A in my recent mock! Thank you so much for the making these videos
Sir, you are a lifesaver!!! I thought it would be impossible for me to do half-equations before watching your video. Thanks for allowing me to achieve an extra 2/3 marks in the exam.
Thank you very much for this, I wasn't taught this properly and was always confused with what to do with oxidation states, but now understand this so well :)
Please do a video on more complicated balancing equation questions. Such as when you aren't given the half equations or when you are given the full equation and one half equation and asked to find the other half equation, some of the past paper questions are horrible!
Hello, I have a quick question(s): If I had an even number of H+ on both sides of the equation could I just cancel them out? Another problem that I have is that I can vaguely remember watching somewhere that H+ can be taken over to the other side of an equation to join another H+. Consequently the number of H+ will reduce because taking the H+ will change the sign to a negative? Is this correct? And if so which side will it go to? I'm assuming the smaller number of H+ will join the larger number on the opposite side? If they were originally on the same side I just add them up like like terms in maths? I hope I have explained my question clearly and I thank you in advance for taking time to answer it. Thanks, Salsabil
Hi there, just about the point you made where we should only add H+ or H2O, I seem to remember comming across questions where under basic conditions you would need to add OH- ions, how would you go about balancing this kind of question?
Thank you ! i was doing these with oxidation states and was making it so much more complicated. So do I just avoid OH- ions unless it says alkaline conditions?
This was really helpful thank you. But what one question I didn’t understand was the last one if there were 8 hydrogens on the right side shouldn’t you add 6 hydrogen ions on the other side because the H2S04 already has two hydrogens. Thank you

thejibbos Very well done on your A! We make a good team :)
Well done!
thejibbos congrats xx
Well done, if you don't mind me asking, what did you get in the final paper? A level results?
What's your suggestion and tips for us!?
Teacher: explains half equations for the third time
Me: I don't get it
Machemguy: speaks for 30 seconds
Me: oh that makes sense now!
Sir, you are a lifesaver!!! I thought it would be impossible for me to do half-equations before watching your video. Thanks for allowing me to achieve an extra 2/3 marks in the exam.
I had lots of trouble understanding this due to the rushed explanation of my teacher. Its’s makes so much sense now. You truly are a lifesaver!
This was so helpful, didn't understand it before now i do thank you!!!
Yay!!!
Wow that made it so simple I was extremely confused with this because I was taught to look at oxidation state first and I never got it... Thank you!!
the best video to exist! thank you so much
I finally understand this!! A day before the exam.. better late than never haha thank you so so much for all your videos!
This video was all i need.
Thank you from an AS student here!
Your work is greatly appreciated. I hope you are keeping well 😊
Thanks, you too!

Replying to comments 6 years later, legend!
You’re welcome
The Best chemistry teacher I ever had. Thank you very much.
I swear to god that I love you. Thank you for your brilliant explanation. Absolutely fab, you just made my chemistry so easy!
wow i read a whole explanation and still didnt understand yet this short video cleared everything up. thanks so much legend, i subscribed
I've got my chemistry exam tomorrow and this video really helped my knowledge on half equations!
Thank you so much, my chemistry teacher did not explain it this well!
Thank you for this :) we had one pop up in a mock the other day and this was the only vid I could find that explained them
Glad I could help!
your a legend just saying
greaaaaaat video i was reading the comments and wondering how helpful you would be! thank you sooo much.
Glad you like it!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I used to find these impossible with my previous method but it's so much easier now!
Very nice explanation!
Thank you very much for this, I wasn't taught this properly and was always confused with what to do with oxidation states, but now understand this so well :)
Thanks for clarification but could you please attach the whiteboard to a wall or somehow that We can see it straight thanks
the explanation is simple and perfect bro it was very helpful...
U r a legend mate😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I don't get why it can't be 3+ oh the lhs because each CR is ^+ on LHS and on 3+ on RHS so 6-3=3
If you’re referring to the second example, it’s says it’s in acidic conditions so we use H+ ions
You've helped me so so much with this, thank you.
THANK YOU SO MUCH I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR THIS YOU EXPLAINED IT SO CLEARLY THANK YOU!!!!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Glad it was helpful!

My G, I remember watching your videos.
You and your videos helped me get to Medical school.
Rufus what did u get in Alevel chem
thank you for this, it really makes sense the way you explain it!
thank you sir!you have just helped me with my confusion on this topic
this vid is just so so good honestly has helped me a lot tysm
Very kind of you to say. Cheers!
you're perfect omg
What is the reason for only being allowed to use water and hydrogen ions to balance the equation?

Shouldn't this be in the F325 Energy playlist? Or is it part of the transition Elements bit
+BAMitsFRESHPINK Both I guess
Don't suppose you know any channels like yours for Biology and Psychology? If I had that my life would be saved ;)
You made it so easy, thank you!
earwaxbean nice of you to say so.

Yes true, actually what I was looking for cause I don’t get it..If you have any info I would appreciate if you shared thank you ♥️
But woah it’s been 7 years😂that’s crazy
I’ve made videos on alkaline half equations
finally i could understand this 2 weeks before the exam, thank you very much!!!
Vinicius Noé Phew!
Thank you ! i was doing these with oxidation states and was making it so much more complicated. So do I just avoid OH- ions unless it says alkaline conditions?
That's about it. Glad you're sorted :)
So when do you and how do you add OH- ions in?
Struggled with this but found this very helpful thank you!!!!
Ellie Xoxo Chuffed you found it helpful. Thanks for taking the time to let me know; really appreciate it 😊
You just saved me, I was going to drop chemistry
Don't do it. Chemistry rocks!
Hi, are all the colour changes due to the formation of a percipitate?
What about if it gives you a complete equation and a reducing half equation?
Thank you
Do we need to know this for alkali conditions? I remember doing it in class
Only if they mention alkaline conditions. I have made a video for them too
you made it out so simple thanks
This was really helpful thank you. But what one question I didn’t understand was the last one if there were 8 hydrogens on the right side shouldn’t you add 6 hydrogen ions on the other side because the H2S04 already has two hydrogens. Thank you
Look again. There are 10 H's on each side the way I've balanced the equation
Well explained. Thanks
you are a life saver! my teacher explained it in such a confusing way.. one less thing to worry about! thankssss
Cheers. It's easy!!!!!
Thanks for this video! I find this so useful x
NerdyGirl Glad to hear it :)
great video!
could you make a video on Kstab please?
Will do :)
+MaChemGuy thanks!!
Great Video thank you!
Thank you so much for this video! :D
Well I've been thinking about it all wrong haha. Thanks.
brilliant. my teacher took like 4 lessons to explain this!
4 lessons...
4 lessons...
This is great! Thanks
Glad you liked it!
Thanks very much genius
Jessica Egharevba I wish!
amazinggg
Victoria Azubuike Nice of you to say so - thanks for taking the time to comment
Omg i actually understand this now 😳
Love half-equations me!
thank you so much
Thank you so so much!!
You're so so welcome!!
nice man
Lifesaver
The best
thank you!
