    Great idea 👍 Suggestion...If saving the piston, I would put a thick rubber piece between the piston and the vise.

    There is a reason why your local machine shop doesn't press the rod against the piston and that is what you are doing when you pull it through with a bolt. If your machine shop lets you go into the shop watch the way they press the pins out. They will set the piston and rod assembly in fixture that holds the rod up so that it never presses against the piston. This prevents damage to the rod that you won't notice. A side bending.

      @Murada be tough for him to show considering the piston press tools actually do allow the piston to contact the rod.

      Wonder if this method could be used in reverse to install wrist pin on piston

    • @hooseyad4ddy694
      @hooseyad4ddy694 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevegardner435 no. I would say best option is to wrap pins in paper towels put em in the freezer. Then the next day set up a contraption that has a bolt at the end or something to stop the wrist pin from going farther than it should. Heat connecting rod to a few hundred degrees and slide wrist pin in. Slides right in just gotta be quick

    My bolt ends up turning as I crank once it's really tight.

    Great technique! ....But
    1. Don't wear flip flops working on a engine
    2. Find a suitable table
    3. Mount vice to this table.

    Was either part damaged or reused? Looking to do this to replace the rod (spun bearing) without replacing piston and worried it will damage the piston.

    • @MrDelgado559
      @MrDelgado559 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't have to remove the piston from rod to replace the bearings

    • @bwilson7990
      @bwilson7990 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrDelgado559 spun bearing destroyed the bottom of the rod as well as the journal

    • @jamyers121
      @jamyers121 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bwilson7990 if thats the case you will need to have the rods reconditioned. You dont want to install new bearings in a rod thats been chewed up. Or you might have to trash the rod and get a new one. Sometimes a new set is cheaper to have the old ones reconditioned at a machine shop. But your crank will most likely be trash if the journal is scored badly. Buying a new crank is sometimes cheaper than grinding the crank . Thats if the journals are not damaged from over heating. Spun bearings almost always end up being $$$$

    Good old-fashioned yankee ingenuity, but go Bosox. Wished I'd a used an automotive grade bolt. Bent the crap out of a carriage bolt trying to do this. Emphasis on trying. Fail, I did. Oh, well. Neither my threads nor my bolt was long enough. Geezz!
