As great as luffy is or will become, there are certain characteristics he will never attain and to say he never ran from a fight is one of them. this gives so much weight to this statement about whitebeards back, truly truly story telling beauty.
No scars on back is cool but if you think about it its just luck or shame. Because Whitebeard either haven't ever been in situations like Luffy or Ace(protect your brother with your body like Ace did or ran from enemies cause brother's execution is in other place like Luffy did) or let his nakama die(I dont belive that this is possible) I think Luffy and Ace can only be proud of running and showing enemies their back (weak spot) in order to protect brother
