- Two male hippos having a territorial dispute duked it out at Shumba Plains, Zambia. We were sitting in a small boat as these two males came within feet of the boat in crocodile infested waters. Luckily, our engine started at the last minute and the hippo went a different direction.

Their speed completely defies their body size. Bears, Hippos, Rhinos, all these giant animals move so damn swiftly
They're pure muscle with a layer of fat over the muscle that makes them look fat, so they seem slow, but yeah they're incredibly fast.

We'd probably be super dead. The one hippo was definitely seeking us out as refuge from the big hippo. We were far enough out too that the flight to a hospital would've been easily four or more hours

Hippos are omnivores btw. For a long time people thought they'd eat only plants. Until they saw them eat zebras and gnus. Don't mess with them.
All herbivores eat meat from time to time to get minerals, that doesn't make them omnivores.

I can accept hippos having strong jaws. I can accept they probably have strong legs so they move as quickly in low water and if they were running, and they swim well. But I've been told hippos are super fast, and I don't know if I can accept that fact.
3,500 to 9,920 lbs. imagine the muscles required to move that mass 19-30 miles per hour (or 30-48 km per hour)
hippos are barely fat for your information. They are more than 90% muscle in reality, explaining their insane agility.

Amphibious tanks, or panzers, in the water. The scariest moment was when that hippo in front vanished from view underwater. That guy could have turned to attack the boat, entirely out of view underwater, until he surfaced right underneath those men!
