    Dedicated to Sir Clive Sinclair (1940-2021) the man who changed my life.
    ZX Spectrum (British 8-bit computer) plays famous tune from Star Wars known as "The Imperial March" or "Darth Vader's Theme" while loading piece of prepared data from cassette player.
    10 years passed like a blink of an eye since publication of this simple video just for fun. I don't understand why, but it is my most popular video on TH-cam. 26K views in 10 years not that much by modern standards, but I'm happy.
    Now there are some more tap music videos for your amusement:

    I think that the fact that Spectrums loading sounds were actually somewhat pleasant helped us a lot to endure the about 5 minutes it took to load a program.

      I remember back in the day with my Commodore 64 I'd start a game loading on tape and turn the volume up on my monitor (actually a small color television...) and then go watch TV, make a sandwich, do some homework...until I heard the game start. When I got my first floppy drive it was faster, but not as much faster as I was hoping (until fast load games became the norm). Good times...

      If you had a +2 it could take 20 mins. Then crash as it finished. That's why when you got a game loaded it stayed loaded, sometimes for days. Anyone else remember adjusting the azimuth angle on the tape heads so it sounded 'crisp' , especially with copied games.

      @@handlesarefeckinstupid I recall games taking an age on the Speccy +2a which was the model I had. Though I think mine had a dodgy tape head as not all games loaded and it still puzzles me to this day why. Now your comment makes me think was my Spectrum faulty or was it a flaw of the +2a model especially with playing older games meant for the 48k

    • @Murderdogs
      @Murderdogs 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Surely not the fault of the +2 but of the fact you were probably loading a 128k game which is much larger - loading times would be the same on any of the 128K Spectrums, 128K original, +2 or +3!
      It crashing at the end though, well that IS either the machine or the cassette at fault, sadly.

    Does this prove that the music is a valid ZX Spectrum file or does it prove that the ZX Spectrum loader considers everything as data? Would the sound be the same if that picture is saved to tape, again?

    • @SeboDigital
      @SeboDigital 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He simply find a way to write glibberish data that match the speecy loading sound in assembly, saved as "Screen$", and loaded it. If you listen carefully, you see that isn´t a picture, but some random pattern of junk drawing.

    what does red/teal mean and yellow/blue mean

    • @ZXSpectrumHotel
      @ZXSpectrumHotel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, home computers in 80s used tape recorders to load and save data and even games. When you play such tape, you hear sounds like in this video. Raster bars of different colors were needed to control aspects of loading process like speed and volume. Red/teal are preparing before data, yellow/blue - data itself. It's a very old stuff.

      @@deraykrause4517 LOL! If I remember correctly, one of the most difficult games to crack on the C64 was "Bruce Lee". I seem to remember reading somewhere that hackers really respected the publisher on that one because it was a tremendous challenge. Various "snapshot" carts made copying a bit easier but not in all cases. What's weird is that, at least in the US, you were allowed to make up to 5 copies of your software yet software companies were under no obligation to make it easy to do. In fact they went out of their way to make it as difficult as possible.
