      Absolutely best guitarist. Of course there are others as skilled. It’s just that David is bringing us music from another dimension. Not if this world.

    That's a brilliant quote: "he left earth and came back in his true form......a guitar". Pretty much sums it up!

    david gilmour and peter frampton were pioneers on the talkbox in the beginning seventies. if you want to go for a talkbox special, listen to "peter frampton comes alive : do you feel like we do"

      Same here m8, there's no better reaction to Floyd than someone's jaw literally drop, to be quickly followed by being glued to their chair in a trance like state.

    One more thing about this song: The computerized voice at the beginning is that of famous physicist Stephen Hawking. The lines he says about learning to talk were taken from a TV commercial that David Gilmour saw. Apparently, the commercial moved him so much he wanted to use it in a Pink Floyd song. So, while Stephen Hawking is talking about the importance of talking and communicating, the lyrics of the song are describing people talking and not being able to communicate with each other.

    I love the unbelief in this young Man's eyes to what they saw, But his Spirit felt the pull of the Cosmic Strings and he knows it's real. He has been Enlightened ...

    He's using a talk box. There are a few other artists who made it popular in the 1970s and 1980s, such as Peter Frampton and also Richie Sambora in Bon Jovi (you may know their song 'Living on a Prayer'; there is a talk box at the beginning of the song). I've always loved this song, too. It has an atmospheric quality to it and I love the call-and-response vocals between David Gilmour and the background singers.

    I was in my early 20's when Pink Floyd did the Pulse concert in 1994. My emotions were all over the map song after song. I cried during "Sorrow", stood with my mouth hanging open during Comfortably Numb" and lost my voice during "Run like Hell". I am 70 shortly I love watching YOU react to the same concert. If you get the chance watch the whole concert you will not be disappointed. Thank you for watching them, this old girl gets to relive her younger days through you! Love and respect, stay safe and well young man.

    Talk box pedal. Sends the sound of the guitar though a tube and your mouth movement affects the sound as it is picked up by the microphone.

    What's that? you asked. It is a talk box: it takes the output from his guitar, feeds it into his mouth, so that the mouth can shape further sounds, then back out to a normal mic. btw, this song is about a nervous breakdown- and how to get through it (by keeping talking: Dr Stephen Hawking said “For millions of years, mankind lived just like the animals. Then something happened which unleashed the power of our imagination. We learned to talk and we learned to listen.”) and allowed Pink Floyd-the Professor's favourite band- to borrow it for 3 months (while he himself had to use a prototype) and to use it in 'Keep Talking'. Hey man, you're doing great! Hi from Canada, be safe. (Corrected per Dane Jacobson , thank you)

    • @DaneJacobsonMD
      @DaneJacobsonMD 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Tiny correction, it's a "talk box" - a "voice box" is a colloquial term for the larynx / vocal cords :) just in case people want to Google it or whatever

    - The Dogs Of War
    - On The Turning Away

    And Money live at Knebworth 1990 because it's a little different performance.

    5:00 -- I just love your reaction, haha! Yes, David loves his guitar so much that he had found a way to be connected directly to it. The guitar used David's voice and tried to speak to humans more directly, haha! 5:25 -- This part, OMG ... every time I hear this part, I'm floating above the clouds, and I feel free. 5:34 -- I always have goosebumps. It's so clean, so perfect!

    It's like one my favorite songs Folks Keep Talking from my favorite bands Pink Floyd when Stephen Hawking did his famous Commercial in the 90s saying as long as Mankind keeps communicating the human race still has a chance to turn it around no matter how close we get to another catastrophic global disaster like now we face in 2023 like some of my family who faught in WW2 so this never happens again unfortunately they now see all the ingredients are again like it was in 1937

  • @Cashcrop54
    @Cashcrop54 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I always that David's guitar talked on its own but his use of the talk-box on this song is great. I think Peter Frampton was the first time I heard anyone use it. Frampton actually talked with it. He'd make it say "Do you feel..feel like I do"! Almost every song Pink Floyd plays has something different to hear and see.

  • @grelch
    @grelch 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The sound from his guitar is sent up the tube and he uses his mouth to shape the sound. That sound is "sung" into the microphone.

  • @davidputterman2719
    @davidputterman2719 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    the guitar talk box is a pretty simple concept. The guitar sound is fed through a hose and terminates in Gilmour's mouth. His microphone then picks up the sound from his mouth and he can change the sounds as he wants.

  • @jimangela4589
    @jimangela4589 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The talk box got popular in the 70s. David Gilmour used it for "Pigs" (the Animals album) , Joe Walsh, "Rocky Mountain Way", Rufus and Chaka Kahn, "Tell me Something Good", Peter Frampton, "Do You Feel Like We Do", but the best talk box is Stillwater, "Mindbender".

    He's using a Talk Box; some of the guitar sound is fed back up through the tube taped to the mic stand into his mouth. He uses his mouth to modify the sound before it hits the mic on the stand, giving that great "chewed over" effect. Very neat! Back in the day before you could computer produce tracks to death. A lot of the effects they used were extremely innovative at the time, now you can use a computer!

    Great reaction Popenyco, looks like you're enjoying PF. That song got you kinda mesmerized huh buddy? Pink Floyd has a way of doing that, don't they,... they always come up with great performances.
    Yeah man, it's a Guitar Talk Box, it's been around since the 1940s! I believe Peter Frampton was the first Rock guitarist to use one, he used it on his famous 'Frampton Comes Alive' Tour and album in 1976.
    There's an incredible Pink Floyd performance of 'Echoes', you have to see. It's part 1 and 2 in 2008, the same year Rick Wright, (keyboards, vocals), died from cancer. What a masterpiece it is, although it is very long 25:00, with a sound and light show between parts 1 and 2. I realize it's probably too long for you to react to but maybe on your own, I think you'd enjoy it.
    Especially if you've got a doobie to light up!

    [Intro: Stephen Hawking]
    For millions of years, mankind lived just like the animals
    Then something happened which unleashed the power of our imagination
    We learned to talk
    [Verse 1: David Gilmour]
    There’s a silence surrounding me
    I can’t seem to think straight
    I’ll sit in the corner and no one can bother me
    I think I should speak now (Why won’t you talk to me?)
    I can’t seem to speak now (You never talk to me)
    My words won’t come out right (What are you thinking?)
    I feel like I’m drowning (What are you feeling?)
    I’m feeling weak now (Why won’t you talk to me?)
    But I can’t show my weakness (You never talk to me)
    I sometimes wonder (What are you thinking?)
    Where do we go from here (What are you feeling?)
    [Refrain: Stephen Hawking]
    It doesn’t have to be like this
    All we need to do is make sure we keep talking
    [Instrumental Bridge]
    [Verse 2: David Gilmour]
    (Why won’t you talk to me?) I feel like I’m drowning
    (You never talk to me) You know I can’t breathe now
    (What are you thinking?) We’re going nowhere
    (What are you feeling?) We’re going nowhere
    (Why won’t you talk to me?)
    (You never talk to me)
    (What are you thinking?)
    (Where do we go from here?)
    [Refrain: Stephen Hawking]
    It doesn’t have to be like this
    All we need to do is make sure we keep talking
