    Fun Fact, just when everything goes totally Orange, Pink Floyd slip in a few bars of the old British TV SciFi Show "Dr Who" theme tune.
    Cut you into little pieces actually refers to some audio tape recording of a BBC radio DJ who talked waaaay too much and the band didn't like. The idea was to chop up the tape and stick it back together almost randomly.

      @@hognaut Some claim its on the album but nope, they probably would have got into copyright issues with that. I think this was spontaneous as its live although I do wonder if he slipped it into other gigs on the tour.

      That was a recording of Nick Mason saying: One Of These Days, I'm Going To Cut You Into Little Pieces!

  • @doubleubee7523
    @doubleubee7523 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    The "One of these days, I am going to cut you into little pieces" was said by drummer Nick Mason. Mason said he used a falsetto voice, and they manipulated the audio tape. Long before digital manipulation and editing.
    There is a video about the making of Dark Side Of The Moon, and all the things they did to get the sound they wanted. Musicians had to invent ways to get the desired results. Now it is a digital effect.
    I can't find the correct words now, but you have to be very creative to work within the limits of technology of the time.

    The pigs were one of many elements that they bring out with individual songs. I’ve seen the disco ball (of course), a plane crash during another song, a flying bed in another, script lighting in front of the stage during another, pyrotechnics during this and more, hieroglyphics lighting up the arena perimeter during another, the one that nobody mentions is the light “circle” behind the band which comes forward and lays flat with all lights focused on a single point (Gilmore) during his iconic solo. In their previous tour, DSOT, the pig actually comes out and flys around the audience!

    This song is on their 1971 album Meddle and is the opening song on side one. Of course side two is one song "Echoes"!! The person who does the voice and only lyrics is Nick Mason. He spoke really fast in a falsetto and they slowed it down to get the growling menacing sound!!

    Pulse concert started with Shine on you Crazy Diamond. One of These Days is practically in the middle of the concert. And the last song (encore) is Run Like Hell...
    I recommend to see for example "Echoes" (Pompeii - 1972) or "A Great Day For Freedom" (concert in Gdansk 2005). In Gdansk Pink Floyd played "Echoes" too. It was the last time it was possible to see it. Soon after that Richard Wright died and David Gilmour said he would never play this song again without him.

    #David Gilmour... Yup I watched to the end. I'm pretty sure that this piece ended part on of the show... the second half is the whole of Dark Side Of The Moon.. and Comfortably Numb is anogst the 3 or 4 encore numbers. As yes... Pink Floyd WERE ahead of their time... what you hear on the stage is what is on the record. Fabulous isn't it.. Damn I was lucky to be buying these records as they were released... So glad you are enjoying discovering them though. Oh yes, that is a Lap Steel Guitar rather then a Pedal Steel Guitar that David is playing here. Keep on Rocking..

    This song was not the opener, it occurs about 3/4 way into the concert. The opening song on the Pulse video is "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". But if you actually saw the concert live in the States in most cities they opened with "Astronomy Domine". I saw them at Soldier Field in Chicago that summer. Incredible!! The video, as good as it does, does not do it justice.
    You need to check out the studio version of "Time" by them. 👍

    • @AceofBadeReacts
      @AceofBadeReacts  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Did they change the opener for any specific reason or just to mix things up?

    • @flubblert
      @flubblert 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AceofBadeReacts they mixed things up a little from City to City. In most cities they performed the entire "Dark Side of the Moon" album in order during the second half of the show. They didn't do that in Chicago. But they did intersperse most of the album throughout the set, so I wasn't mad. They probably just left "astronomy domine" off the Pulse video for time purposes. IDK. It's from their very first album 1967, so they probably figured they could sacrifice it.

    Sorry, I'm going to be somewhat nitpicky here. Yes, Floyd was incredible, both in creating soundscapes and light shows. But using a lousy copy detracts from the sheer excellence of their engineering, sound and visuals. This copy is poor audio and it's stretched so everything is distorted visually (the hoop of lights above the stage is a semicircle, not an ellipse, and stretching makes the musicians look like munchkins). Whenever you want to watch a video from the Pulse concert, use the ones labeled "PULSE Restored and Re-Edited". Sound is better, and it delivers accurate image of the concert, and often better cutting of the video too.
