Hbox didn't need this 3-0 to improve his credibility, he needed it to catch his flight on time...
Hungrybox and Armada are the most consistent players in smash by far. They always play really good. Mango and Mew2king would play REALLY GOOD or choke really hard.
The thing is for a good span of time Mango was the consistant winner of most tournaments, he went on a role of winning tournaments to not even the extents of Ken. Becoming back to back Evo 2013 and 2014 Champion was a big feat. After that I think he allowed himself to slip up in skill. As for Mew2King hes been playing the game for way to long and I think his play style is great yet I feel like some techniquality is missing.
Eazy Yuu I miss Mango being the Goat. He is really inconsistent now since 2015. Mew2king plays great sometimes but his mentality needs a lot of help. He would literally give up in losers bracket a lot now.
People are complaining about Hbox because he plays Puff. That's just silly now. Hungry box has been the underdog of the 5 gods for a long time and now he finally shows improvement and even domination and people get mad because of their own bias. I'm actually hype that there is someone else winning majors for a change. I'm sick of seeing fox everywhere no matter how fast it may be.
And that's your own bias so what makes yours anymore valid than someone else's?

+Likerhater3 I think the problem with hung box is the spamming of moves. I'm 100% fine when he's playing a good mental game, but clicking the yellow stick towards the opponent for half the time is no fun for anyone. He's playing to win and that's fine, but he's hurting a community by spamming to get his edge.
sQuellz I can agree with that. But so far I'm not seeing 2016 Hungrybox doing that much camping. His new form of aggression is actually surprising. He never won by just camping and we all know that.
+Likerhater3 I have to disagree with you. Like I said before, he spends half the time spacing bair fair and nair, waiting for impatient players to get hit by it. And the aggression is a follow up to their mis-spacing. I don't know about "never" either. I wouldn't call what hbox "camping" and that's not necessarily my problem with his play style. Hbox said he learned how to play the MU differently, but he just covers the options he didn't previously while still doing the same thing.
I hate that "people aren't as good as the puff matchup as hbox is at the fox matchup" Mango has been playing against Hbox as Fox for over 6 years now and for 5 of those years he had hbox on lock. Hbox is just outplaying people, that's all there is to it, Puff loses to Fox hard.

+Vseslav Botkin I totally get what you're saying and I do think hbox outplayed mango ridiculously this set, but it definitely helps that there aren't any puffs on his level and he never wants to practice with people. It's kinda like the "stupid advantages" PPMD was talking about himself having back in 2015. People definitely aren't as familiar with puff as the rest of the top of the cast because not many players play the puffball.
I think it does have some validity. Hbox plays a lot of foxes every tournament, a top fox player plays maybe one other good puff. It's also hard to practice for Hbox since he's literally the only really good top level puff. Hbox can practice with a lot more top foxes to prepare for Mango/Armada and can discover new things in the match up. The only player foxes have to prepare is the savior of melee, Prince Abu
I agree, I hate that idea of thinking of it. Look at it from Hbox's eyes, there are so many top fox players that he has to be able adapt to all their play styles within a few hours at a tournament, while all the fox players only have to adapt to one puff play style. It's not that people aren't getting enough practice, it's that they aren't taking the time. Armada took the time and he is able to do well against hbox.
to be fair, the way hbox is outplaying people shouldn't be specific to him, he's just the only puff who's consistently pulling off things that should absolutely be implemented by any puff player at the top-level. consistent smash-DI on fox upair, precise spacing on b-air, and platform frame traps are all essential tools for puff, but hbox is the only one who has mastered them so far. not to discredit hbox's skill, but that stuff is just part of optimal puff play. stuff like hbox's measured aggression and reads on recovery options is the stuff that's specific to him.

It's amazing how many people complain about Puff being campy when it is straight up Fox in the match up that dictates the pace and can easily camp way better than puff can. Lasers across the stage for free damage, running away with his amazing run speed for more lasers or to get to the safety of a platform to camp.
All the while Puff has to having amazing SDI, spacing, patience, and reads to not get bodied by foxes amazing toolset of free followups.
And yet "Puff is campy and lame".

After years of seeing Mango dominate over Hbox it's nice to see the tables turn for a while. Plus it leaves open the possibility for Mango to train really hard and make a comeback like a phoenix rising from the ashes!

theory: because hbox has no doubt been studying mango with his coach he's been able to improve his micro-game. The scuffles that happen now give hbox more opportunities to grab/get in/etc. Because these scuffles are no more likely to go either way DIing out of rest set-ups becomes more difficult for mango. The buster's just gotta lab it.

+Sam Hafner It does actually matter, if Mango won, that resets the bracket, putting Hbox into losers bracket. And then they play another set. It is called reseting the bracket, and the video being 10 min long, means mang0 lost before the video started.

I gotta be honest, I'm really tired of seeing Hbox and Mango in seemingly almost every grand finals. I can only hope other players will start to rise above them, like M2K, Wobbles, Axe, Plup, PPMD, all these people with the potential to win these tournaments who seem to keep somehow losing to these two guys.
I'm glad for these two players, that they're getting to live their dreams and win and be in the spotlight. But I hope some other players get it, too. M2K has been playing amazingly lately and I would love to see him taking first at some nationals. After he 3-0'd Armada, and took a REALLY convincing victory against Mango in pools earlier in this tournament, I wouldn't be surprised.

+Overlord Ghs having five gods is really unusual, especially when their playstyles differ as much as they do. even in 64 and wiiu there are only isai and zero, respectively (as far as I know, I'll admit that I'm not very well at home in the sm4sh scene)... I think it shows how versitile melee is, as well as smash in general.
Folks White Actually Zero didn't even make it top 8 for Smash 4 at SSC, and Isai got 3rd in 64, though people argue he sandbagged against Wizzrobe. I disagree but people say that.

+midocrimsonfate That isn't saying much, though. Mang0 is amazing despite his being kind of dumb because of his unpredictability and ability to pick up on reads. The Smash Documentary did a great job of showing this distinction, as expressed by PPMD.

+cwjalexx Yes, and no. You don't want to be too laser-happy like M2k is, and you give up stage control to puff. Armada is a pretty good example of a "run and gun" style, but he also maintains stage position and knows when it's time to combo.

Mang0 is by far the least humble of any of the Gods. He always claims to be the best in everyway. Even when he does bad, he claims to do bad the best. Every time after a loss, especially to Hbox. (happens nonstop 2016 les go!!) he goes home and streams and always says "I'm the only one that can come in 2nd ( ,3rd,4th, whatever he comes in) and still be the best, and still have so many people behind me. I meant to come in second anyway, I wasn't trying."

The Five Gods are PPMD, Armada, Hbox, Mango, and m2k. But PPMD has been taking a break for a while and doesn't play often, so most say leffen would be the number 5 spot. Other good people are Axe, Abate, Plup, Nintendude and Westballz. :)

It's a jab reset in melee. It's called a jab lock in sm4sh because you can string multiple jabs that locks the opponent : )
+MinuteBracelet It's a jab reset in Melee, Brawl, and Smash 4, the difference is that you can jab (or use another resetting move) again in Brawl in Smash 4 before they have to stand, and lock them on the ground this way (while also unstaling other moves). Hence, jab lock, when you keep jabbing before the reset.

Vish has a really good point. Hbox only won here because his opponent, a player who rose to fame through playing Puff, is too unfamiliar with the matchup.
Is this sarcasm? Mango knows everything puff (hbox) wants to go for in this matchup, and so know how to watch out for it. He has extensive matchup knowledge just on the other side of the matchup.

I really like these two commentarors, but I think they were really biassed in this set up to an annoying extent.
