Had mine for two days, very easy to set up with my Pro7's and linked to my laptop for auto logging. Amazing receive and I don't feel guilty at all for buying it.
@@mewrongwayKOCXF hi, I use N3FJP and in the set up you add your passcode or API key so I can automate the log uploads and confirmations for club log, eqsl, LOTW and qrz. I use the usb cable to have the cat function linked to N3FJP so it logs Freq, start and end time band and mode. All I have to do is enter the call sign and reports hit enter and it is all done. If I did a video it would be very dull, but I can tell you it's easy to set up. 👍
Great video showing the functionality new starters need. I just bought a second hand one from Japan that's only 6 months old. Will be using this a tutorial on setup!
Nice review, looks like a nice radio for sure. I was a bit surprised at the power consumption. On receive, it's about 2 amps according to the spec sheet, vs 1.5 amps on my 706mkiiG, and 900ma on my 7300 (both actual measurements). Something to consider if you go portable, you may need a slightly larger battery for POTA work.
Great review. I like the idea that we can now use a mouse. I'm not sold on the 3D display, but they offer a choice so that's not a big deal. Barry, KU3X
I have had the IC-7300 and the FT-710 and I love them both. He is right, the noise floor is lower on the FT-710, especially after I did the firmware update. There are features on both of them that I like. I don't care for the 3D scope, but that is just my preference. I did hook up an external monitor, but I figured out real quick that any time I needed to make adjustments to the radio you actually have to look at the radio, so the external monitor wasn't really that helpful when making adjustments. I am sure that there are advantages for some people though, especially if visually impaired. The Icom also has speech for visually impaired, not sure about the Yaesu. I don't think that you can go wrong with either radio. I do think that Icom needs to do some firmware updates on the IC-7300 to help keep up with Yaesu. Thanks for posting.
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones My old IC706mk2 will happily FT8 into a well-tuned antenna at 40 watts all day long. If I am going to fork out good coin for a new rig I want something better. I have heard some say the IC7300 will do digital at full power. Is it wrong to expect the FT-710 to do the same ? What would be a safe power level for FT8 then ?
@@grandpaandlucas7054 Sorry Troll I didn't see you there. FT8 is a "weak signal" mode and there is no specific power requirement. I did hear there were jerks on ham chats but have not encountered one until now.

the ft710 sounds better than the ftdx10, i have heard both side by side in a video. why would you want to sell your ftdx3000 ? if you are satisfied with it, then it would be better to keep it. newer is not always better and then these yaesu SDRs have cheap a/d - converters, the ftdx3000 will probably sound better. imagine trading in your ftdx3000 in for a ft710 and then that new radio doesnt sound that good. i remember the ftdx3000 was a 3300€ radio, then it went down to like 1300€ over the years till it got discontinued, that radio is a good one already.
I like the combination of a touch screen and function button. You continue to have the best FT 710 videos on YT. Thanks.
Hi that's very kind I make the Videos to learn the radio for myself.
Looking at one of these as an option for my HF needs. This review was so helpful.Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
Glad it was helpful! Hope you enjoy it .
Better video than the one Yaesu did on Ham radio 2.0. Nice work, OM w1ip
Thanks glad you enjoyed it .

Is there a video on doing the auto logging? Thanks

Hi such a great set .
Nearly 20 years later I'm still trying to get my head around my FT847. Excellent video and a very nice radio

Hi yes very good point it's more of a base station .
Yes and that explains why the fan runs after about 15mins, 2.2 amps receiving a signal with audio turned up. Power = heat, the fan is doing its job

The 7300 scope is better.
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones But the rest of the 7300 isn't. It's long overdue a refresh.
Nice…well described. As you know I’m sold…getting one next week! Happy holidays…Cheers..

glad I watched this for this radio is all I would need .. Thanks

7300 always should have had external display but they wanted us to buy 7610
I loved that HF-6M sdr Yaesu, tks for the video!!! 73
It's the best value HF set out there.
FT 710 is on 4th place on Sherwood receiver data list...just 1 place bellow bigger brother FT dx10.
Yes it's a very good a achievment for Yaesu.
Actually it’s 3rd place tied with the FTDX-10.
@@jim5204 Even better. Tnx for info Jim👍
Thanks for the review. I am still hanging on to see if a FT991a replacement is due - as per John Kruk video and hint
LOL Yes be good :}
What hint? “ good things are coming” is what JK has said for years when asked anything.
I would really love a full sized desktop version of the 991a. Big touch screen and buttons.
FTDX10 now £1499.95, I bought it few weeks ago for £1350 with free m70, free headphones and £85 cashback. Glad I grabbed that deal!
Nice one!BARGAIN
That's a great deal, just paid £1049 for the 710. Would be interesting to compare the two
Excellent review thanks. 😎👍
Thanks loads
Good video, you do some very good useful videos, does the ft710 transmit on 4m band
Yes it does
Yaesu menus man. Crazy.
The Basics are on the front Yaesu love there long Menus lol
Thanks for your great review. 🎉What if it was compared to IC-7300? Could you share your advice?

Great review.
Thanks enjoyed using the 710 its a winner .73
Great video. Subbed.
Thanks for the sub!
Nice review, thanks, it’s one of my finalists now that I upgraded license
Good choice!
on the dx10 you dont have to manually turn the power down to use the auto tuner it lowers the power automatically
Hi thought so I just do it to make sure.
Skip to 15:10min in the video to get the conclusion!
Thanks its my Diary
Thanks for the review. I am leaning this way as compared to a IC-7300. Will it do FT8 at full power over a long period ?
I think that would be a bad idea possibly damage radio.

Does the SDR have multi slice receive capability, like the Flex with simultaneous receive?
Ask Yaesu
It has the bandwidth but likely doesn't have the processing power to do it very well.
Nice low noise floor there.
Amazing very good value Set
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones I was talking about your QTH.
Not sure why they put the SD card on the side? do you have to remove the speaker to remove SD? Thanks
Yes you do so I mount the speaker on the other side although I never use the speaker as prefer a smaller foot print.
