Oh yes, swallowing difficulties are one of the very worst symptoms. In my case it hits mid-way through a swallow. Everything just stops and I can't breathe. The only option is to try and remain very calm and just wait for it to pass. Unfortunately, on occasion, it takes so long to pass that I immediately draw in breath which also results in pulling food/liquid into my lungs and that leaves me coughing for hours.
I read that pneumonia caused by food aspiration is one of the leading causes of death in the case of Parkinson's suffers.
My Parkinson's started (as is the case with most people) with tremors but my tremors have not gotten much worse at all as the disease has progressed. Now it's painful dystonia and interrupted swallowing that cause issues when I'm having a bad day. Fortunately bad-days are still infrequent and thanks to a bunch of lifestyle changes and migitation strategies I've developed over the years I'm still happy and fighting. I've shared my approach to dealing with the disease with hundreds of others around the world and most report that these strategies are working for them as well.
This YT channel is another huge asset to all of us who suffer from PD and again I thank you so much for making these videos.

very interesting, I actually found the answer, after staring at a prescription list of parkinson's disease meds-rytary at the PADRECC in SF. I was being treated for dystonia, which of course is part of PD. I remember Dr. Katz, testing me for the meds generic sinemet, I got greedy and asked-'why is my tremor started back up, after 20 minutes. She gave me the side eye and said 'your anticipating the effect of the meds'. That just ended my sociapathic and psychopathetic tendencies, or what is the other hiroshito (taking on the symptomology of your nearest companions. Dang supposed charimastic' propaganda!)

I have had those esophageal spasms and they are extremely painful and distressing. 😟
The work life balance is a challenge for me. I'm working on finding a balamce to have time for self care, exercise, nutrition, and time to relax and restore. 😎🌴
Wow, I have an eye that tears up on my effected side, I thought it was a reaction to sunscreen, but then I realized it happens when I'm not wearing sunscreen, I never thought it was related to PD. 😮
As always thanks for the episode and the information. 👍

This has been a Parkinson event rich this week. I had a day with crazy Blood pressures changes, extreme high stroke level, to super low very light headed level. Then I was traveling home thinking of all the things I had to do. I was stopped for speeding, Not something I normally do I got a warning ticket and the officer was real nice to me. When the officer got in his Car, i just lost it, tremors, tears ,short of breath and high anxiety. All I knew was irrational but could not stop, my husband drove us home.

Thank you for your podcast. I love the laughter and your smile. Sorry Brian - no smiles. I especially liked your in person on a bad day.
By the way I’m almost 68 and was diagnosed at 46. DBS: 11 years ago.
