RIP Edward De Bono. i did the thinking course as part of Humanities and Social Studies Course at school. That has help me mapped out throughout my life.
Edward De Bono is a legend of the power of the mind. Thank you for uploading this video.
I'd recommend watching his BBC Thinking Course from 1982 which is available on TH-cam.
Summary:
- Elaborating around, and opening up possibilities around a problem, is the key to a beautiful mind. Multivariate thinking can be modeled around 6 hats: (1&2 preparatory, 3&4 divergent thinking, 5 convergent, 6 conlusive).
1. White hat- information. what is the key info? how do we get it? what does it represent?
2. Red hat- intuitions, feelings, and emotions
3. Green hat - Creativity with provocation
4. Yellow hat - values, benefits, positive aspects
5. Black hat - Critical thinking
6. Blue hat - organizing hat
- The purpose of thinking is both to create value and find the truth (not just truth). Thus 'EBNE' becomes useful, by saying that something is 'excellent, but not enough' (reminds me of Mckinsey's MECE condition).
- Humour is the most significant behaviour of the brain is humour (as it represents an asymmetric patterning system).
- As a thinker, provoke. As a listener, make an effort to understand and expand, rather than an effort to argue and attack.
- There must also be a balance between certainty and possibility. An excessive concern with certainty, leads to a rigid dogmatism, and possibility a witchcraft-like "everything is possible".
- Exercise: 16:15 onward.
Edward de Bono is a genius ! He convinced me as a college goer that creativity can be taught ! He demystefied the brain & creativity to me . He deserves the naming of a planet after him !
I believe there is a planet where it was named with Edward de Bono's name

Explore possibilities when interacting with people. Never judge a book by its cover. Don’t be quick to take things personally. Consider the diverse backgrounds, life experiences and multitude of social characteristics before making up your mind.

PP is terrible because you dont see any mistakes. Professors have done all the thinking outside of class amd present a perfect presentation. Stude ts need to see the prof think in front of the students
I saw him live in 1995 - best presenter I have ever seen, and I have subsequently tried to adopt his practice or equivalent wherever possible. Its why I bought a stylus for Zoom

All force of nature are formed by: The inward absorption density and outward emission density of "electro magnetic Wave Front's" forming + and -electric charge or resonance antimatter matter annihilation.
Each neuron consisting of billions of microfilaments has a voltage which changes when ions flow inward and outward from a cell.
Once a neurons voltage reaches a certain level of energy compression, it will then consciously fire an electrical signal to other cells, which will repeat the process.
why i can't understand the factory example :'( !!!
The factory start with a provocation ( like the " half buses ") ; the provocation was " the factory is downstream to itself " ; try to imagine that the factory in the river ( that uses the clean water for production) is located always after the trash the factory produces and leaves in the river" : In other words; imagine you are a designer of the engine of a car and Edward the Bono asks you to design a car where the exhaust of your car has to be connected in the conduct of the air that goes to the cabin for the driver ..

Possibilities.
Think about it, powerpoint is so ubiquitous, and his method is unique and novel to us. Hence, he created a category in our memories that only he exists. It's pretty ingenuous if you ask me.

Powerpoints are overused. Not saying they’re bad. We’re just used to them. This feels very different and unique, and that what makes the presentation more engaging

I'd ask this guy, alright, nice ideas, but yet: how not to be lazy? I have a rather creative friend, and most of those things she does, but he sleeps 15 hrs a day, and is just lazy. For sure many ppl are like that.
What advice could we give?

There’s no such thing as free will. You can’t decide not to be lazy if you are lazy. The term lazy makes no physical sense anyway. Lazy is just when someone doesnt do something that you personally would have. They obviously dont think that thing is important enough if they dont do it, so they have other things they find more important.

De Bono needs to think for himself instead of citing other peoples work and thinking
Creating a pathway to allow people to connect what they already know to a new idea that they can accept and use is quite tricky. DeBono's audience includes those who are smart and educated... People who are used to pointing out "Black Hat" objections as you have done here.
If you examine de Bono's life of publications, (on his official site) he has originated or crafted many systems and means to approach thinking ability. The tricky part is presenting these ways of using thinking skills in ways people can remember them.
He did think for himself and he changed the world by developing lateral thinking!
