I will always be thankful for Lord Huron. Strange Trails was the album that saved me when I lost my mum and one of my best friends. This version of Frozen Pines is haunting and beautiful.

The end came too early for Overton Vertis Wright. It was in the back of an ambulance en route to a Birmingham, Ala., hospital after he suffered his third heart attack on Nov. 16, 1980. He was 41 years old. His life had been marked by multiple marriages, a heroin addiction he couldn't shake, and a stint in jail for drug possession. But he had also become one of the most moving soul singers in an era filled with stiff competition. He was O.V. Wright. Many soul singers of that period could sing sad lyrics, but the grief was often feigned. Not Wright. His hurt was real. The titles of some of the songs he recorded provide a clue: "Drowning on Dry Land," "I'd Rather Be Blind, Crippled and Crazy," "You're Gonna Make Me Cry," and Wright's masterpiece, an unhappy tribute to the instruments of his addiction: "A Nickel and a Nail."
"He sang and lived the sadness of his life," recalls Otis Clay, a friend of Wright's and mine, and one of the few remaining singers who truly carry on the deep soul tradition. "He was a singer's singer." Mr. Clay and others honored Wright at a memorial concert here last Saturday. ~~~

Most amazing concert I’ve ever been to
I finally saw them for the first time 2 years ago, drove 3 hours to do so, and I literally cried when they sang Wait by the River. No idea what came over me, it felt so magical and unlike any other show I’d seen. It was an outdoor venue in the woods on a clear, breezy night and I tell you what- I think about that night almost every day. Lord Huron is truly a band unlike any other and eternally my favorite

Lord Huron's shows are the kind of show where you can take someone who absolutely hates their music and they'll have an amazing time. I really hope you get to witness it soon.

I’d absolutely love an Alive From Whispering Pines album with all the reworks.
Listening to all the requests for this lovely song during this episode brought tears to my eyes. I have honestly never felt the way I did while listening to the song. It was absolutely beautiful.
They played my message and I cried through the entire song. It was magical. I was the last one before the song started.

DAMN IT. This is absolute perfection. It resonates far more deeply and profoundly than the original, which I already treasured. It’s like they reached deep into my soul and traveled through my being with blueprints. The delicate treatment of this rendition - the fragility of Ben’s voice...a perfect creation.

Love how in one album, they'll sound very folk like singing songs about nature and another album, it sounds like 50's space age era.
I come back to this version so many times. LH reminds me of driving at night in the back roads of New Mexico. Stars as far as you can see. The smell of the desert. The open road ahead of you. Like you're wandering and home at the same time ❤️

Lord Huron is my new favourite band... they got me through my grandfathers passing and the music really helped to lift my spirits!
I love this song. It doesn't matter what version it is, it still touches my soul. I relate to this song because most of my life I have spent alone with no one really to be by my side. And I think in a way it relates to everyone in this world because everyone has had times where they feel like no one can help them with what they are going through. But not everyone lives in isolation and hated by others. So not everyone can relate to that.
i love the vibes. the original song is sort of a call out into the void, like you're alone in the world and desperately missing your friends. this is more of a sweet ache, like 3 am alone in your room with rain outside the window and no idea what you're going to do in the morning. i love it
