    Warning: do NOT epoxy or otherwise fully constrain the lipo battery itself!
    They need to be able to expand as gasses build up due to cell deterioration from (mis)use.
    Constraining it might cause the cell to burst instead, creating a fire hazard, especially if it happens while charging or full.

      It's cheaper to just buy a rechargeable 9V, they're only a few dollars. Also you wont have a massive drop in amperage like this one does. I use 9V batteries in Guitar pedals and this one wont put out the correct amperage to run them....

    Nice, now place this "9v LiIon" cell in your fire alarm...
    ... and replace or charge it every 2 weeks. Those boost/step-up boards draw quite some milliamps. Found out the hard way.

    • @nutbastard
      @nutbastard ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, even without losses from the board, the LiPo used is only 650mAh vs ~550mAh for an alkaline 9V, but he's boosting voltage by 2.5x, so he's ending up with under 50% the original capacity (2.4Wh vs 5Wh). Call it 40% with what the board eats up. Honestly I don't know why he didn't get 3 smaller LiPo's and wire them in series and skip the board altogether, aside from not being able to use USB to top it up. Although then you'd have to toss a resister in to drop the voltage by the extra 2.1V. Hmmm. That's not a good plan either, I suppose, since you're just losing those 2.1V as thermal energy... and we're right back where we started.
      Well that was a weird rollercoaster of feeling sort of smart to feeling sort of stupid.

    • @cowsagainstcapitalism347
      @cowsagainstcapitalism347 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Quite a few electronics are sealed this way. While it does make it impossible to work on, these components almost never need repair. The epoxy will not only hold things in place but insulate the wires and protect from oxidizing.

    • @Gorguruga
      @Gorguruga ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cowsagainstcapitalism347 won't the rechargeable battery die after a certain number of charges? Maybe in a year or two with regular use. Better if it was designed so that the rechargeable battery could be easily swapped out when it dies.

    Micro USB is cool in the case, I just got high - very neat and beautiful! But stepup dc-dc will drain the battery, slowly but surely, at least it is protected from over-discharge. The switch will not help in any way - what, unscrew the battery compartment every time before and after use? And the question is also how the inevitable dc-dc ripples will affect the accuracy of the device. For me, a much better and simpler solution is a 2S li-ion battery (7.4v), its voltage is enough.
