      Not gonna lie, this was more discouraging than informative to me. Not because you don't know your stuff; clearly, you do. It just reminds me just how little I know. Most of this was complete Greek to me. That's the most frustrating thing about learning to code. It's loaded with chain after chain of "before you can understand this, first you must understand that..."

    • @averywicks6892
      @averywicks6892  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PachucoDesigns No reason to be discouraged. We all have to start somewhere. You'll get it. Trust me! I was an intern during my first programming gig, and I wanted to pull my hair out because I couldn't grasp the idea of just an 'object' in OOO. I couldn't figure out when I needed to create a new object vs not. I was completely green, but just kept working little by little. You keep grinding at it, and you'll get there. There are tons of devs that are way better programmers, and smarter than me. My strength is that I will grind it out and learn. That's worked pretty well for me. You keep working, and I think it will work pretty well for you buddy :)

    This is looking like something I definitely wanna come back to. This video looks very clean and simple to follow, but unfortunately a bit too advanced for me.
    I was looking into how to create a Discord bot that would be able to request songs using text from a discord server’s text channel. Right now I wanted to see if there’s a video out there that could explain the Spotify API in a sleek and easy to understand way. This seems it.
    Now that I’ve got this, I need to find some videos on JavaScript fundamentals to get me rolling. Can’t wait to revisit this video. It looks great even to a completely programming ignorant person such as myself. Subbed for sure.

    Hi! This is exactlyyy what i was looking for. just a question - isn't the client secret token supposed to be hidden and not visible in the code? how do i handle that? is it absolutely neccessary to have backend code in python or node js to fetch that info?

    • @averywicks6892
      @averywicks6892  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Glad that you found this useful, and yes, you typically don't want to show the client secret inside the code. Terrible security LOL. I didn't really worry about that for this tutorial as I focused more on JS Principles. Typically, you want to maintain sensitive data on the server vs the client. Which in turn, introduces the need for a backend language :) Hope this helps. Feel free to check out my Spotify video w/ React as well.

    You read my mind, just what I needed! But what about storing the token in the client side code, is that reliable? Should I bother creating an express server with the sole purpose of obtaining the token there and thus not exposing it to the end user

    • @averywicks6892
      @averywicks6892  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      From a security standpoint, storing the token on the page like I did is BAD LOL!. I just did it that way because this was a tutorial and I wanted to focus more the calling the API. It's always better to keep that information away from the end user.

      Looks like Spotify may have an API available for that. It's called "Get a User's Top Artists and Tracks". Maybe you could give that a try! Hope this helps and thx for watching the video! Please feel to share this channel and/or video if you want!

    I'm having trouble exporting my mockflow project to an html file... do you have a tutorial on how to do this?

    • @averywicks6892
      @averywicks6892  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't have a tutorial, but try these steps...
      1. Open your Mockflow Project.
      2. Click the 'REVIEW' button
      3. You should then see an 'EXPORT' button in the left sidebar.
      4. Click that button, and you should see some available export options.
      5. Click on the 'HTML Project' option.
      Hopefully, this works for you buddy!

    • @elijaho
      @elijaho 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@averywicks6892 Thanks. I managed to make it to that point, but it exports the project with a single index.html file that calls a bunch of local JavaScript/CSS files to load my pages. There's no actual HTML code for me to copy, which is odd. I was just wondering if you had a similar encounter

    • @averywicks6892
      @averywicks6892  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@elijaho Interesting. I actually never tried the export feature until you mentioned it :) Sucks that export doesn't provide the results expected. Well, I guess I have to subtract 2 points for Mockflow now LOL.

    • @elijaho
      @elijaho 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@averywicks6892 I agree, the HTML export system they have is pretty flawed.
      Another quick question- if you didn't use the mockflow export function, how did you get the HTML code that you used in the video? I'm mainly looking for something that can help me get a decent-looking frontend layout without spending hours screwing with the css. Mockflow seemed cool, but if I can't actually get the HTML code from what I was working on, there's no point in using it lol

    • @averywicks6892
      @averywicks6892  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@elijaho Hey buddy Apologies for the delay in responding. I didn't see this comment. I actually just wrote all the HTML that I used in the project. That said, I did use bootstrap to handle all the styles. If you plugin in the bootstrap CDN, that will give you access to tons of pre-made styles. Regarding mockflow, I really just used it to create a quick mockup. I always know that I'd write the HTML on my own for the project.
