helllloooo everyone my name is Pinely and welcome back to another THEORY BUSTERS video! In this episode I'll be tackling some of Shane Dawson's woooorst theories, we'll be talking about one of Shane's deleted theory videos (that one's really messed up!!), his chuck e cheese theory that pisses me off to this day!! AND MOOOORE!!
Other than that, I think I'll end this description soon, sorry for not uploading for three weeks btw my mic broke while I was on a trip in Antigua, Guatemala (lovely place), the video was supposed to be done like 2 weeks ago. Right now I'm still traveling (on my way to Nevada as I'm writing this description) but I'll be resuming normal life in 5 days and I'm planning on uploading LOADS during this last bit of the year, so be on the lookout! I used to love those videos because they were obviously stupid and over the top. I didn't realize Shane was actually, unironically dumb, and taking himself seriously.
Even when I was in middle school and was like “wow listen to this theory!!!” But never took them seriously. I was like 12 and just thought it was funny and dramatic
Yes! They look like shitposts, like someone having fun by trying to prove a ridiculous, clearly untrue premise just to muck around. But no, he's actually jumping down the rabbit hole and believing everything.
Ikr? Ive been watching him since i was 8-9, and... jeez... have no idea how i grew up to be a competent person watching his content religiously.
@@RC.- I thought it was good he made the video with his old friend (Brittney?) about her ex who scammed her and was likely going to take her/their baby to Serbia. It's a serious shame that it was intercut with the bullshit pizza theory and is now taken down. So many men and women of all ages are scammed by partners, end up with all kinds of abuse or financially ruined, or even end up being trafficked like Brittney and her baby were probably going to be. Such a waste of a really important story!

Look, if I had a band I would DEFINITELY put messages in it that could only be heard in reverse. Mostly because I think it would be funny.
Make it really banal or obvious things.
Like a group of religious conspiracy theorists are gathered around some elaborate device; one presses the button to play the song backwards. Victory on their faces as words become clear.
Then utter confusion and defeat as the words clarify into sentences: "Buy one get one free on avocados," "Apply a cool compress to the effected area," "The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell."

Edit: How tf did this get so many likes? It looks as though he still has the audacity to keep uploading so maybe it's time footage of his interactions with kids and footage from The Chair starts surfacing again. That's what did it last time, and he still can't address it, so get him where it hurts people. Just him not addressing the more serious stuff can even be used at this point.

Shane is just so consistently awful. There's his racist bullshit, his "jokes" about defending pedophiles, his "jokes" sexualizing children and him spreading propaganda invented by nazis and nazi sympathizers/deniers. When he's not doing all that his videos are either boring or aggressively average.

Me: No its not. The surface of the moon was way more of a powder that the astronauts expected so the motion of the flag was from the astronauts catching the flag by the pole and then digging though the powder with the pole to find solid ground to plant it. Thats why the flag is so short and down to the astronaut' s waist when they finally get it set. The flag was supposed to be as high as the astronaut. The rest of the pole is under the powdery substance on the surface of the moon, because THERE IS NO WIND TO BLOW THAT STUFF AWAY.
Lesser additional point: Why'd they have Air conditioners on set?
To add on: NASA actually had to make a whole in-flag structure for the flag to stay up with small bars that could be folded, giving the illusion that there was wind blowing through, but it was their structure holding it upright
It's actually painful to listen to all of Shane's stupidity. He likes to think of himself as an "Artiste", but he has no understanding of ANYTHING. He's an absolute TOOL, and it gets me angry because he was taking advantage of his young audience for legitimacy.. no one over the age of 12 would have been able to listen to anything he had to say without laughing in his face. And to think he made MILLIONS on his "comedy and intellect" feels like he robbed children who didn't know any better.
The funniest bit is that he actually thinks he has something to offer today.. Other than "can I take your order"? Who on earth wants to hear Shane Dawson's opinions on ANYTHING?

I absolutely love growing to dislike youtubers I once liked.
When these videos first came out, I enjoyed them as they were and got some entertainment from them.
Now that I don’t particularly like Shane, I can come to funny videos like these and laugh at the stupid old videos.
It’s like getting double the enjoyment from the content. First time I enjoyed it as it was, Second time I’m enjoying watching other people rip the shit out of it.

I wish it was more well known and covered by others just how damaging and harmful Shane's conspiracy videos were. People mainly talk about his disgusting behaviour towards kids and the racism. While both are very bad things and should be addressed/talked about, his theory videos also desperatly need just as much critisism. I hear Shane might be coming back soon so hopefully this topic gets picked up by others soon so it may even potentially stop his return, or at the very least, delay it.
You definitely should do the Big Nic video, he's on some weird redemption tour after Nickisnotgreen made fun of his misogynistic podcast. Supposedly they had a talk behind the scenes and he's trying to apologize and "change". 🙄

Weird Reads with Emily Louise did a great video on the satanic panic (which Shane seems to continue), and she makes videos on weird topics such as conspiracies. The difference between her and Shane is that she has an education and has seen the world beyond TH-cam. She's debunking the crazyness and making it entertaining at the same time. A truly underrated channel.
My husband told me Hotel California was about an addiction to drugs. I never heard the argument in this video.

I like the theory busters videos because I enjoy hearing you take a more serious stance on things, but I'm not gonna lie, I used to be a bombastic Nostalgia Critic fan and I would LOVE a video on him

Shane talked about the "bad events pretenders" on the H3 Podcast when he was on it years ago. I remember being so disappointed they didn't push back more. Really awfull stuff to help spread, i'm so glad Alex J lost the trial. He should be in jail for the pain he caused those families.
Actually i was the victim of Shane's videos, i was a teenager and went down the rabbit hole starting with his videos, the theories I've seen... Unimaginable, and i genuinely believed some because of my mental health at the moment and I'm so ashamed of this part of my life especially how much hatered towards LGBTQ+ people was in many videos I've watched

I think it was Vice that made a documentary about those teenagers who had been accused of being actors, and how it affected their lives and tgeir families. I can't believe Shane dares to call himself an empath, when he's spreading those hurtful lies.

I worked at Chuck E. Cheeses, and the pizzas are cut different than other places. Mediums are cut into 10 slices, large is 12, and 16 for the extra large. Definitely makes them look weird when you take the picture of a pizza at an angle.

There is for sure a lasting impact of that video. He accused older events of being actors, but even as recently as parkland survivors have been harassed and accused of being actors. Despite the video being deleted, this theory is still very much prevalent to this day and has been used to dismiss dozens upon dozens of events as being “fake”

I clearly remember Shane making a video talking about the sandy hook parents being actors! He showed the interviews the parents took on the day of the tragedy and said these people were working for the news
I used to watch some of these conspiracy theory videos and I think the worst one I remember is the video about the California fires. He made a theory video about it while the fires were still happening (or had just happened) and it just felt super insensitive. Like people lost their homes and their lives were so greatly affected, and he just went around those areas as if it was nothing

I can’t believe how obsessed my younger self was with him. I’ve been watching him since around 2012 and I genuinely adored that man and believed everything he said. Now the past two years it’s been crazy to think abt how much I used to like him. He’s so gross.

When I first watched that vid I felt like the Chuck E. cheese story was the main story in that video and that Britanny's story was just the filler... which is even more messed up.

It's not even just a crappy pizza cutter. I mean maybe that's part of it, but it's mostly cutting the pizza right out of the oven and serving it. When it's super hot it slides around really easy. I worked at a pizza place for awhile. They were constantly going on about not tilting the boxes of fresh pizza for that reason

Deep enough in every single conspiracy, you'll find that they all somehow get down to "it's the Jews' fault" ('it' being whatever the conspiracy theorists believe the global conspiracy is). It's kind of mind boggling, actually. Conspiracies also almost always reduce down to christians religious mythology; demons, angels, God, the devil, the rapture, the second coming, etc.

He didn’t take it seriously and a few months back brought them up again in a conspiracy video and did a whole segment on them so here’s hoping they follow through with the threat this time.

Because to me, it's baffling how, the company would go as far as THREATENING him with defamation lawsuits, but still won't change their pizza cutter which they claim is the reason behind those strange unfitting shapes.
Like, if I ran a giant pizza company, people everywhere started assuming I sell them leftovers merely because of my pizza cutter preference causing issues, I'd change it to a plain old wheel roller cutter even, anything to properly save the brand's face and reputation. Especially given that it sounds SANER than a LAWSUIT.
@@WoozyCool As someone else said, it's just that they cut the pizza right out of the oven and then send it to you quickly. The pizza cutter doesn't help, but it's not something that requires changing. At worst, it is aesthetically unpleasing.
And why shouldn't they threaten him with defamation? He's defaming them, and even if they did change their practices for something that literally doesn't matter, the damage is still done. His lies got picked up and spread around.

Far as i know Hotel California is about drug use and songwriter got the idea for the song while being high. The main idea was that Hotel has all the pleasures, but in the end they start to feel like nothing. And you cant go back and leave because of the addiction (hence you enter only once).
I like how they say the most normal things but then add in random horror movie stings. Like look at the Chuck E. Cheese one, they laugh at shitty pizza cut jobs and then add random sound effects to make it somehow scary

I never understood those reverse song theories cause who's gonna go through all the trouble of producing and writing lyrics and then recording then, listening back to them to make sure that they're mentioning Satan, and change everything if it doesn't work, plus making sure the artist sings it in the exact way you did as to not mess up the message... All for something that people are not gonna hear if they listen to the song normally, which would defeat the whole purpose of the hidden message being there? Who has the time for that? Absolutely bombastic
Yeah like honestly half the time my brain struggles to do long multiplication, so there is no way in hell I’m gonna believe that this thing is gonna be able to subconsciously reverse a song and decode hidden messages to be influenced by lmao.
Not to mention that, if you were going to do that, why not make your backwards message, you know, clearer?
I'm just picturing these huge music producers and these top level musicians all sitting in the studio listening to this absolute nonsense going, "Yes, yes, that's good. That gobbledygook is exactly what we were going for!"
The Beatles first did it on accident & thought it sounded cool (on the song "Rain"). . Conspiracy theorists came in about Paul dying & a "back masked" (that's the term) confession in their next record. That was 60 years ago: he's still alive. Then 2 cooky fundamentalist brothers with no music/recording/production experience started looking for Satanic messages played backwards on records. So it was those guys who took the time (and found nothing). How idiotic and disappointing to see it revived.

Religious people will try to connect Satanism with anything that's popular, especially with young people like the Beatles were lmao. I first heard about this when I was like 10 and people were saying that RBD (a group that came out out of a tv series for tweens) songs were spreading satanic messages to kids, it was wild.

i used to absolutely love shane and his content. even the conspiracy theories, which made sense at the time - because i was young and easily influenced. shane knows his audience and doesn't care about what damage his fans can inflict.

Just curious if I could add my perspective on this: I've had a psychotic disorder for ~5 years now and I used to watch Shane Dawson's videos, even the conspiracy ones, pretty regularly. Having psychosis means it is very easy for me to be influenced by the media I consume and for it to spiral me into a delusion. I've known a few psychotic people who were groomed into hate groups because of conspiracy theories feeding thinly veiled antisemitism to them on a regular basis. The tactics of saying 'oh these are just for entertainment' and then presenting them as fact, is that those kinds of mixed messages can definitely contribute to someone's psychosis. Especially if they're hearing it from a source they trust/have a parasocial relationship with. (For example, I've had delusions that I am not fully human based on video games, movies, or books that I engage with. Luckily I don't develop parasocial relationships very easily.) Conspiracy theories can be good fun and all, but it feels counterproductive when some people, like Shane, ignore or even pretend that what they're saying exists in a vacuum. Hopefully this makes sense and isn't just completely illegible.
This makes so much sense, and thank you for sharing your own perspective. We don't often take into account what kind of people, beyond just regular naive children, are especially vulnerable to this kind of content.

That’s extremely understandable, but you need to be cautious about the type of media you consume if that’s the case. It’s not necessarily 100% his fault, but a clear distinction on the fact it’s a theory or a fake/fun idea to think abt might be more helpful ?
yes i hav psychotic tendencies (possibly stemming from my bpd? or anxiety? not sure) but shanes videos were very harmful towards me as well . the way they were not only presented as fact but were shown to such a wide audience created a scary conflict between my rational side and what everyone around me was believing
Another problem w his conspiracy videos is that for a viewer that doesn’t live in the US, even if they’re aware that not everything he’s saying is true and don’t believe the theory, some elements of his theories are presented as fact.
Except they aren't, there's a whole ass disclaimer at the beginning of the videos even lol. Not a fan and not defending any of his behavior but it's made very obvious that nothing he is saying in the conspiracy videos is not to be taken as facts or reality lol. Even without the disclaimer,,, the word "Theory" kind of implies just that,,, a theory

I remember watching that video as at the time I hate to admit but I loved his conspiracy and I didn’t realise until now that this one in particular was something that was so bad, I think this proves your point that Shane can easily manipulate children not to believe his theories as such but to make them aware that the event actor is something that could even happen.
Indeed, i used to be like 11when i watched those, and... now, looking back at it i realised how manipulative he is.

Regarding the bad event pretenders, did that have to do with a video where he talks about some people thinking that some 9/11 footage where the second plane hits the tower was fake and speculating on the inside job theory? I remember that one vividly because it just felt disrespectful, like did he think there were no records of all the people on those planes and the event in general?
i believe he could also be thinking of one video, that i personally remember, in which shane was presenting a “theory” that there were bad event pretenders at the sandy hook shooting news coverage. he even alleged that the father of one of the children was one of them. which is especially insane when you think about the fact that alex jones is currently being sued by the families for spreading the same sort of rhetoric

I really wish I never watched Shane's videos. I was a kid when I watched this one video where he talked about like deaths caught on camera? (I can't really remember) but I do remember one of the deaths he talked about, because he showed a video of it. It was a mother falling into the mechanism of an escalator, putting her child into safety at the sacrifice of her own life. That shit stuck on my brain. I've been afraid of escalators ever since, or at the very least, I always try to be careful when I'm on one. The video is now deleted (thankfully) but nothing is gonna get that video out of my head. Thanks Shane Dawson for making me paranoid af about normal everyday things!
Well there was an age-restriction on the video, and it was literally a video about deaths at malls. So I'm not sure what you were expecting.
That was, unfortunately, a real thing and used to be a common jump scare on reddit. Along with a helpful diagram of how genuinely awful her fate was. It still gives me nightmares as well.
If it helps, she took an escalator with her child that was blocked off due to the grate being loose. To avoid this fate, stay away from machines that are roped off, even if it is inconvenient. Try to be aware of your surroundings when you are out, even in areas you are in a lot. Especially if you are out with your infant as the modern world is still not perfectly safe and being relatively alert can keep you safe from many dangers like this.
@@postl3 I know I'm very late to this comment, but I had no warning about the age restriction because I had lied about my age (like most kids) and I watched a lot of Shane's videos about deaths for a reason I don't know. Idk, hearing about accidents like that is one thing, but seeing someone seconds before dying really messed with me

The "glitches" thing mentioned in the Tweet is to do with "Simulation Glitches", the belief that the entire universe is one big computer simulation and that things like miracles, de javu, misremembered memories are "glitches". Basically they believe we're in the Matrix.
Yeah he had so many theories that originated from n..zi origins. It’s possible he was getting them from other sources, but given how many of those theories he pushed and how frequently I’m pretty sure he knew their origins. He’d seemingly deliberately tell dog whistle versions too, so I think he understood what he was doing enough to edit the theories for a little plausible deniability in some situations.
There was one awful one I recall involving massive sh….ting in a LA building and saying the white man accused was innocent and it was actually a group of m….lims but the g….v..ment were c..ver.ing it up. His theory was of course unfounded, but many called him out for it at the time even so it sticks in my brain. He naturally avoided addressing criticism and left the harmful video up
