I was a little girl the first time I ever heard Janis sing- she barreled her way into my heart like a freight train and has stayed there ever since. A symbol of lost potential, yes, but more than anything, a symbol of freedom and resilience. Janis had tragedy in her life, but she herself was not a tragic figure, always cackling and always passionate about her music and the movement she was a part of. I can only aspire to be that free and have the lust for life that she did one day.
On a side note: I’m stunned that so many comments on here are focusing on how Janis “isn’t a real singer” or even that they are happy she left us. You people are the same ones who gave birth to her demons, and if it hadn’t been for them, Janis would have lived the long life she deserved to. Stop trashing the memory of this incredible woman, and find something productive to do.

When I hear her sing, I get goose bumps & go back to being 16 & the pain I endured when my man married someone else after 5 years together. I always still feel her pain when I hear her sing. The closest I came to seeing her was in Denver 1968. We didn't have tickets but anytime the doors opened, we could hear her sing.

I was 15 and fell in love w the album cheap thrills. Helped me thru some rocky times in my teens. Now when I hear her those times come flooding back. I used to dress like her- I had some cool clothes!

Janet was awesome,I discovered her raspy belt voice at the age of 15...there so much pain and honesty in her voice. All these negative comments in this section is just ugly. I can't understand ppl deriving pleasure in downing and knocking someone whos long gone, who paid the highest price for her vices,is that not enough.
Thank you for leaving us a little piece of yourself janis..

      @ceejay1794 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

James Dean so......you either think she’s trash or you think if she had made the choices you had made she could have had a more successful career? That’s pathetic. Either way your passing a judgement on someone else’s life. Why don’t you take care of you. It’s all we can do anyway. Appreciate her art she gave to the world. On another note, you obviously don’t know addiction.

    • @jamesdean258

Cee Jay Im not judging her! I never met her. Maybe I shouldn’t have said she was trash but I’m saying I wish she wouldn’t have died from an overdose so she could have had a long life and career! No, I don’t know addiction because I was never stupid enough to try drugs!

    [Verse 1]
Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waiting for a train
When I was feeling nearly faded as my jeans
Bobby thumbed a diesel down, just before it rained
And rode us all the way to New Orleans
I pulled my harpoon out of my dirty red bandana
I was playing soft while Bobby sung the blues, yeah
Windshield wipers slapping time I was holding Bobby's hand in mine
We sang every song that driver knew
    [Chorus]
Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose
Nothing, I mean nothing, honey if it isn't free, no no
Yeah feeling good was easy Lord, when he sang the blues
You know feeling good was good enough for me
Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee
    [Verse 2]
From the Kentucky coal mines to the California sun
Yeah, Bobby shared the secrets of my soul
Through all kinds of weather, through everything we done
Yeah, Bobby baby kept me from the cold
One day up near Salinas, Lord, I let him slip away
He's lookin' for that home, and I hope he finds it
But I'd trade all of my tomorrows for one single yesterday
To be holdin' Bobby's body next to mine - original written by Kris Kristofferson
💕Janis Joplin made THIS tune great!🎶☺✌

Here's to the 50th anniversary of the loss of this tragic angel on Earth. My dear, beautiful Janis. I hope the Good Lord was kind in judgment, because your music did move people in a positive way. For that I'll be forever greatful. Fun fact... on that posthumous album PEARL, there was a hit single released from it called MERCEDES BENZ. Turns out, she was so impressed at seeing the new Benz purchased by Jimi Hendrix that she wanted to do a song about it. Thus, her last hit single...🇵🇷🇺🇸😎

Who’s here after hearing that Shailene Woodley will produce and star as the legendary late soul singer Janis Joplin in a finally-long waited musical drama biopic film about her life & career? Hope they name it “Piece of My Heart” or maybe “Pearl”.
Give the film a 2hrs or maybe 3hrs long if needed.
Who should direct, write & produce the film?
Which studios should distribute the film? 20th Century Studios (formally 20th Century Fox), Fox Searchlight Pictures, Universal 🌎 Pictures, Paramount 🏔️ Pictures, Warner Bros Pictures, or Sony Pictures/ Columbia Pictures or TriStar Pictures?
I sure do wish & hope singer-songwriter Pink, at least, appear in the film. Probably playing a different character since she’s also a huge Janis fan herself. Maybe she could play her mother at least.

The more amusing thing about "Hound Dog" and its original version was that it wasn't written by Big Mama, it was written by two white guys named Leiber and Stoller. Stand By Me, and many other hits were written by them as well most people attribute to Black musicians not white men whose family come from Easter Block European countries.

How much damage this woman caused is impossible to calculate, The Queen of Acid Rock, the High Priestess of the Drug Culture, she and her ilk amplified drug use in America big-time. She wasn't even a singer, more of a screecher. I sew her at Atlantic City Pop and was so glad when she finally got off the stage and quit performing, or whatever it was. What a train wreck.! Yet she is now refleted upon so fondly. What a farce on history. She's and others of that era bear much responsibility for the the drug epidemic killing and maiming so many in the country to this day! When will they ever be held accountable? If this segment is any indication, the answer is never.

    • @wpl6661
      @wpl6661 5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

First. She sang the blues. It wasn't "acid rock" by any means. It was blues rock. And she was a belter not a screecher. She sang from her guts which is what blues singers do. That's what made her famous. Not drug usage. Her passing didn't promote drug usage, it discouraged it. She is remembered well for her talent. She stands out for it. For an honesty and passion in music. Something that doesn't exist today.
