    3:30 How to hide units just like this? My drawing is displaying "15 mm" instead of "15".

    • @ankitminz5872
      @ankitminz5872 3 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Edit -> Preferences -> TechDraw -> TechDraw Dimensions -> Uncheck 'Show units' dialog box
      I found it after hours of messing around. Hopefully it will help someone.

    Watching through the freecad playlist. Right at the beginning of the video, you're vocalizing keyboard shortcut, keyboard shortcut, keyboard shortcut and demonstrating how much more rapidly those changes are made if we're not searching visually for a specific icon to click on with the mouse. Very cool. Really enjoying these videos. Thank you.

    Your videos are really opening my eyes up to the so many powerful features i have yet to uncover with FreeCAD. Maybe it crashes so much because i need more memory. I think FreeCAD is a fine choice for a startup since there is zero cost overhead compared to solidworks. But one of the main reasons i got into it is that eventually i would like to develop integrated add-ons that use multiple other add-ons plus my own tools to streamline design to prototype/manufacture for what I am doing. Eventually, I can get under the hood using python.

    Whoa! Are those crazy window animations (jiggling when moved, spinning away into the distance when clised) built into Ubuntu (I THINK that your OS, but I'm honestly not the most familiar with Linux OSes)? Or is that something you added in?

    Just a quick question... If I open up a .step file and the model isn't aligned to the X,Y or Z axis how do I adjust this so that I can create a tech drawing and dimension from straight faces.

    Hello Joko, wanted to ask you sth about the dimensions. I've constructed a model using part design which has the height of 2.5 m and width of 1.0 m (in realized apparatus). But I've been facing troubles to fit in the specific templates. You have shown how you changed the scaling for different views only using the 'scale' option. But in my case, kinda different scenario. (FYI) Please check your gmail and see what I meant. Nevertheless, you always make helpful videos. Cheers!!

    You said it did a great job at being able to add dims on isometric view, but it didnt equal your orthographic view (8.16 vs 10mm), so maybe its not that great at it.

  • @weedfreer
    @weedfreer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Any ideas as to why FreeCad doesn't show the correct lengths/heights when using angled edges in isometric views?
    Using Ver 0.18.
    For example, if i measure the width of a gable end wall looking straight down from the top at 230mm, then, do the same for the exact same dimension when looking at it in an isometric view like top right/top left, it comes up with an measurement that's way out (180 something and change).
    I dont get it at all and, to boot, makes the use of measurements in isometrically positioned items in tech drawings completly unreliable!

    • @JokoEngineeringhelp
      @JokoEngineeringhelp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good question. I know that dimensions on isometric views are less common for what the workbench was intended for, but this has come up in the past. There is a discussion on it here:
      forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?p=491731
      I think there is a macro of some kind that works, but I have not investigated any of it.

    • @weedfreer
      @weedfreer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JokoEngineeringhelp if you come up with anything it'ld be great to see it in a video chief.
      Seems to me that they've calculated the lengths based on values of the [verticle axis] and [horizontal axis] for the particular view you're looking as anything that is angled off that particular views datum plane appears to calculate incorrectly..and by a fair bit too!!
      Edit: I think I'm right...although, they termed it more eloquently than I did by saying it calculates lengths in 2D rather than 3D in isometric views.
      There seems to be a way of linking a technical drawing measurement through to a Part Design toolbox dimension if I wanted to do it with any accuracy...hmm
      More reading then 😆

    I don't like to complain. We really appreciate your time and effort but please slow down. Maybe you should do more but shorter videos. If we knew how FreeCAD worked, we wouldn't need help. Please slow down. I watched your Part Design workbench video all the way through and thought I could escape from Fusion 360. After 2 or 3 hours of trying to make 3 simple parts, I couldn't get a usable export file and became quite frustrated. You are one of the best teachers for FreeCAD so please don't let this criticism keep you from making more videos. BTW, I was one of those who spent hundreds of hours on Fusion 360 only to find out that their plan all along was to use non-profits and hobbyists to do free testing and advertising. I encouraged many people go that way. They are a disreputable company.

    Techdraw workbench is useless. When you draw complex model it takes hours to compute and add features like "detail view" . Took me three days to add one detail view to an object in techdraw
    It's not usable from this experience
