I have a turbo diesel, and every time I start the car I allow it to warm up upon starting for up to 5 mins depending on ambient temp, therefore I want to be able to take the key, lock the car, and leave the engine running with security of it not being stolen. Also being a 4wd, I want to allow it to rest after hard off roading, and the TT allows for this - personal opinion. Cheers.
The correct way all of us have been taught Is to drive off right away when you start the car But you drive very slowly and super gently untill the car reaches temp Warming up will unfortunately introduce premature wear And during cold weather Use a heater
Exactly as I explained it to my wife and brother in law. You are driving around at less than 1200rpm for the last 5 minutes before you park, the turbo is doing no work and will not be any cooler for waiting.
You need to cool down the turbo wth or without a turbo tmer. There are two reasons: one is to prevent "oil coking" and the other is to prevent the casing cooling down before the turbine blades. All these are dependent on what you call "dwell time": the time you dwell on idle, usually around 2minutes for most turbines. I've seen badly coked turbines resulting in a lockup. Similarly you've seen car turbo's being damaged locally. So, even without a timer one should dwell on idle for max 2mins and you're good to go.
This guy just explained it and it's true.If you are racing or doing really crazy stuff..like high rpm for longer period of time you need to cool it down for few minutes, but you are probably not going to stop in the middle of the road after full throttle racing and turn your engine off just like that? For normal driving and even a little aggressive your turbo is never going to be that hot.You are already slowing before you finally stop or park...It's not going to cook. This is just another marketing lie,so you need to buy this shit..Most clogged,damaged,broken..worn turbo's are result of not changing your oil and filter on time, and it should be more often than for cars without turbo and second problem is driving most of time on low oil level..meaning low oil pressure! For turbo engines it should always be at maximum level, using quality engine oil and oil additives between the oil change, like Liqui Moly Mos2 or ViscoPlus..or some other oil stabilisator.
The reason why in philippines not need turbo timer same with indonesia too. Make sense, only need wait a little bit longer before turn off if we go on highway and stop it for a while on rest area.
Na sa probinsya kami, less traffic, typically mixed long and short drive. Good to have turbo timer protection, than none at all, and buy a very expensive turbo replacement, minsan made in china pa ang mabili, di genuine
First turboed car was Oldmobile Jetfire in the early 60's. So without watching anymore of this very long drawn out video, the reason why don't need a timer, is turbos did not used to be water cooled but now they are. The end.
A turbo timer is actually to help slow down the turbo so when you turn your engine off suddenly and oil pressure is lost the turbo does not starve of oil before slowing down fully
Exactly. That is why your daily turbocharged car sold by the factory comes without a turbo timer.. the answer is because it's unnecessary! Unless a race car or a car that always been used under heavy load yes you might need one to save your turbo. But otherwise, it's just a bullsh*t.
You forget one things which is all new direct injection engine turbo also had water cooling and oil together when you off your some the water fan is still running so not required turbo timer in modern direct injection engine
what an insanely drawn out video...I felt like I was back in school 🫣 A turbo timer doesn't just cool the turbo, as others have said it generally lets any lubricated component cool without load, without having to remember, without having to be present after ANY journey.
Simple pag nd nilagay ng mga engineers n ng design ng engine meaning nd yn kailangan... Sino ang mga ngbebenifit? Yung mga sellers na lagi kang inuuto for the benefit of their business... Turbo timer and oil catch can is only for race cars that are operated above normal operation...
Thank you for the info sir!
Sir yung luma bang turbo. Is oil line lang yung pinakang cooling system nya? Unlike ngayon na may manufacturers na nag advertised na watercooled yung turbo nila... Or since turbos' are introduced may oil and water line na yan to begin with?

You can get your answer by finding someone with a laser thermometer. Drive your car how you drive it and check the transmission temperature with the laser thermometer and if it's below 160F you don't need a cooler. There is a chart of automatic transmission life vs temperatures and it's accurate. 230F and above, super short life, 160F and below, probably last forever if you change the fluid 3 times in it's life. I like to just drain and fill my transmissions because I don't want to have the pan pulled to replace the screen and gasket in a filthy shop with someone cleaning parts next to it with a wire wheel on a grinder or a wire cup brush on a drill putting grit in your transmission. If you need to change the screen, the transmission is most likely already bad. The pan gasket lasts a long time if undisturbed.
