    These types of videos are so useful for animating. They let me know how these weapons should realistically look when in use. I have basically no experience in combat/self defense so it is good do know I can rely on outside sources to see how it would be done so I can accurately animate/draw it.

    I made one of these using two padlocks and a chain. it saved me from a guy with a knife in the street when I was getting off my bike once. I didn't hurt him just disarmed him and took him down.

      Chains are legal yes, and locks are legal. Might be the best legal weapon if you know how to use it. Better range than a knife and still easily concealable.

    A new and refreshing way (though more dangerous) to use the K.F. to strike.
    Most ninjas used it for grapling encircling tying throwing or choking until now.

    Just ran across your videos today, I have to say that they are all quite useful and informative. It looks like you have an amazing dojo. I like the manrikigusari, it is a weapon that does not seem to be practiced by many schools but very useful in the right hands against an attacker.

  • @AkbanOrg

    We completely agree with you on the self defense aspects of the short chain.
    We also practice long chain techniques because of tradition.

      Though they look similar. There is a difference. almost like day and night between K.F. and M.G.
      M.G. being more dangerous also for yourself.
      Always remember: follow the chain. If you don't want to get hurt.
      M.G.is like untamed wild horse that will not listen to you.
      It will take a very long while to control M.G. ...

    actually i just relized that it's legal because of how it was used in the past, it was used as a nonlethal weapon to pretty much immobilize people. e.x wrap it around their legs so they can't walk

  • @AkbanOrg
    @AkbanOrg  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @mcs2mac Maybe I misunderstand your question, but there are many many diffeences. First there is the length, the kusari used above is much shorter. Then you have both sides weighted and in dart rope only one and last: in the dart rope you have a dart... :)

  • @mcs2mac
    @mcs2mac 13 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    @ninjalla I'm more concerned with the legal differences, I understand the practical differences but under Canadian law there is more of a descriptions of weapons rather than names. Mind you this is pretty bad ass. I spin poi, so a lot of the movement I already know, however I never thought you could fight with a similarly built tool!

    @zerordieb87 The AKBAN Armory has manufactured these chains.
    We do not work with store bought not only because of the length of the weights but because of the weakness in many store bought chains.
    If you do manufacture these yourself, cut the end weights from 7mm tempered hexagonal steel rod and pay close attention to the pins holding the and chain links in place - they should be triple rolled.
    Of course, the chain links have to be soldered.

  • @stilesjohnson1745

    @rapsak11 I think that in court this weapon would look bad in any country. But it has derivatives that look harmless.
    Considering the fact that it is a good weapon against knife, the derivatives are a good deal.

  • @Wisteriablight4408
    @Wisteriablight4408 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Something a lot of people do actually is instead of relying on the weight of the manrikikusari to hit the person, instead rely on the weight of the chain’s end to wrap around a limb or connection in the person, giving you time to hit them with your body, a knee to the face being one of the most plausible. If you want to focus on both, the kusaragima is well made for that. You can stun the person with the weight or by wrapping it around them, and then go in with the sickle. Not that anyone carries one of those around anymore, but still cool

  • @rapsak11
    @rapsak11 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @ninjalla derivatives?? i have no clue what that is but this weapon is nowhere near harmless looking... it has two freaking metal balls!! and the kusarigama which might also be legal has a blade and a metal ball..... how is it harmless??

    actually i said that because somehow i managed to miss the fact that the cops can and will arrest you for carrying a garrot around. for added fun you can put a throat crusher in the middle.
    at some point the only way you can justify one of those is for the express purpose of carrying out some sort of premeditated killing

      Dude, have ever practiced martial arts...I'm guessing no because if you had you'd realize how stupid that comment is. Martial artists can take adrenaline filled people down without a problem if they're good at their art. Also this is a major advantage for most martial artists because getting the person filled with adrenaline means they're not thinking clearly and in reality will be easy to take down.
      Now pair this with a chain whip which is essentially what this weapon is and yeah that person you swear this won't stop is now on this ground and most likely bleeding out while the martial artist walks away and calls the police to tell them there's been an "incident"
