with Monster Hunter wilds it seems they're finally aiming to accurately achieve the sort of world depicted in this opening, it only needed 20 more years
While I do sometimes miss the more “gamey” feel of the older MH games, it’s undeniably cool that we’re at a point where the gameplay accurately reflects the old intros.
This is exactly what went through my mind when I first saw the new trailers! So stoked and honestly… I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who thought of this intro when seeing Wilds. Cheers 🍻 mates! See you in the wilds in 2025!
Funny, how we went from having, at most, Rathalos drinking water in MH1 to having a whole entire food chain in Monster Hunter World. I remember wishing monsters would fight eachother ingame like it was yesterday. In a few months, it looks like that wish will come true! January 26th, 2018 baby.
+The Iron Mitt As a child, when I first saw the rathalos in this trailer, I thought he was the hardest thing to kill in the game. When I actually met him during those egg quest, I could feel how hard he was and knew I couldn't kill him at the time. Months passed as I made my way through the ranks and quest to reach him. But when I did, it was the most epic fight ever in my childhood life. Slaying it for the first time felt like the greatest achievement in my life. But now I knew there were more monsters out there. This trailer alone, made me fall in love with the rathalos/monster hunter.
I think this is the best intro in the series. And I'll tell you why: It felt real. That is to say, the games have always spouted that there is an ecosystem in Monster Hunter, which until MHW was only show in snippets when the predators had to heal and when herbivores sensed danger in the next area over. But this intro is the one that actually makes it feel like it's an ecosystem. Here we have two velociprey that panic a herd to weed out one of the weaker juveniles. The mother then proceeds to actually stop and attempt to defend her baby, and the velociprey intentionally avoid her attacks to move around her and capture her baby. Then, a Rathalos, rather than just swooping in to grab an adult, scares the predators off the already killed baby to steal it. They're acting like real animals in this one. Compare that to Monster Hunter Tri's opening. A herd of aptonoth stampeding from a jaggi pack while ludroth leap from the water to try to grab them even after some have fallen in to be eaten. The jaggi do not strategize, simply leap onto the first animal they can and start biting, and hold no regard for their own wellbeing, be it being trampled on by the aptonoth or being tossed into the water to the Ludroth. And then the Great Jaggi simply runs in and is about to go for the first one he sees before Rathalos tackles it to the ground, causing dozens of aptonoth and Jaggi to be maimed in a pile up. Then a Lagiacrus shows up to fight the Rathalos, before the Rathalos flies away to show that multiple packs of jaggi all within a few yards of each other are hunting aptonoth relentlessly. It felt more hectic and chaotic in Tri. Not so much like they were animals anymore but instead actually had become monsters, rabid and caring only for the next meal no matter what it took to get it. In World it at least feels like they're animals again, even moreso now than before.
Agreed, even in the hunting part, the rookies using a basic plan, waiting the monster on an open area witch they know it use to go and then attracting it to the gunner strategicaly setted up behind the rocks
Well at least it is shown with the Anjanath and the great jagras in the ancient forest, for example the great jagras rushes to the aptonot/Kestodon (for inside the world logic) and tackles them to make them fall and then eat them alive in one big swallow, and with the Anjanath he stalks them for a while making them nervous so then he breaks the tension with a roar just to agitate them and "separate" one (again, like it's happening in a real forest) and go for a kill, the rathalos, rathian and legiana are the same as in the tri trailer they just rush and kill the prey with the exception that legiana actually grabs the raphinos and eat them alive (like seen in his intro)
Despite that, I would say the Hunters in comparison looked less stiff and actually have more fluid movement as the cinematics improved. Like we notice how Hunters hunt with more improvise tactics, like how they trap them and bomb them. Also funny thing is in game the small Monsters and large monsters act less like animals, like how the Velociprey don't try retreating when a large monster is nearby, I'm playing Freedom and those critters don't flock off when I'm fighting a Rathalos, while in later installments like 3U-GU when a large monster roars they retreat, and also the large monsters when tired swoop by and attack herbivores like Aptonoth or Apceros while stalking the area for intruders(in the older games like gen 1, this is but cutscene)
2:42 that shot of a proof of a hero makes the scene perfect so well like the music is very intimidating but now I finished world and iceborne and now I’m I rise sunbreak…
Several years on, having played nearly every Monster hunter released outside Japan, this opening is still the best. And it just highlights why, even if you're now playing the vastly superior MH4U, you still owe Rathy his dues, because even with Capcom basically shunting Rathalos and Rathian down to middle class monsters with Khezu and friends, they will still punish the shit out of unprepared hunters, and will satisfy anyone who had to do that goddamn egg quest from the first game no matter how high their HR is.
Man that egg quest was brutal in the beginning. And I remember with no access to internet not having the logic to defeat Los for the first time, until I had spent dozens of hours failing. But then in an ironic twist I mowed through all the level 5 quests after. And also my disappointment discovering for the first time that the Kosoto blade was actually weaker than the hunters knife we entered the game with. Although it did look way cooler IMO It’s shocking to me how few remember MH1. That was my favorite game as a kid. I will forever play every monster hunter released, even if I have a new main game these days.
2:23 Best plan in the entire series. This one defines MH the best for me. Nature is both beautiful and dangerous. The monster is in the center, prominently illuminated by beams of light, while the hunters are lying in ambush behind a rock, hiding at the bottom left, almost invisible. They are portrayed as weak and cunning, not the center of attention. And the only time we think they are going to attack and succeed, they bounce off when hitting the Rathalos, shown failing in their attempt.
The opening that started it all.. :O So much nostalgia in this opening... which is odd because I never played the older Monster Hunter games before... :O
@@canonbehenna612that’s what the new ones are for, for this remake copy an paste it exactly as is and update the graphics to current gen nostalgia would go crazy
"The pack of Velociprey stand victorious, as the Aptonoth mother can only watch as her calf is being shredded to pieces. With this, a bittersweet peace comes to the grasslands... Unless... The hungry Velociprey stop mid-bite, alarmed. Something's wrong. First, a glimpse. A faint shadow crosses over. Then again, and again, ever more closer. With a deafening roar , a true monster lands onto the scared pack. Rathalos, King of the Skies. This flying wyvern of legend patrols the grasslands as the unmatched apex predator. The calf will be an little appetizer. Powerless, the Velociprey get off the carcass, angrily shouting at the Rathalos, in a futile effort to drive him away. Without any hurry, the wyvern grips the deceased Aptonoth with its powerful claws, and takes flight to the mountains, to enjoy his stolen meal in privacy. Just as three brave hunters expected..." Something along this would be awesome to hear from David Attenborough.
Rathalos will always be like Pikachu for Pokemon. You know that there are monsters more powerful than him, but you will always feel happy when you see it in another chapter of the series
