      Because the TurboTax software lobby has bribed Congress to prevent the IRS from giving us a pre-populated form that we could just simply accept, amend, or decline. That way TurboTax, HR Block, etc. can make money off taxpayers by selling software or offering tax prep services.

    I'm in Canada and still need to file.my 21/22 and 23 taxes. I have to file mine a year at a time because I need my RRSP limit from each year. Not overly worried as I have not owed taxes ever. I get a small rebate every year. Will probably do it in the next few months. Maybe.

    Just file the returns it’s not the end of the world. Filing them will release so much weight off your shoulders you’ll feel like you took the biggest shit of your life, you’re not gonna go to prison, yes, there will be penalties if you owe but you may be able to work some of those out. With the new agents they’ve hired they’ll more likely come to you sooner than later, Just get in contact with them before they contact you, because if they contact you they might subpoena you and have you go in to a local branch and file them there and who has time for that? If you don’t have records there on their website.

    My transcript is definitely missing 1099’s that I worked for. It’s only showing my 1098-T form for school. Where would I find all the missing 1099’s that were definitely submitted to the IRS?

    • @LoganAllec
      @LoganAllec  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      If they're not on the IRS transcripts, then you'll have to ask the issuers of these 1099s. It's possible they neglected to actually file them with the IRS.

    Can you file with a tax transcript? How can you get your employee EIN, if you can’t remember the jobs you worked for?

    • @LoganAllec
      @LoganAllec  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Your wage and income transcript will have the information that was reported to the IRS for the year. If you get the "unmasked" version, it will have each issuer's name and EIN.
      Of course, your wage and income transcript won't show things that the IRS doesn't know about, such as your itemized deductions or business deductions.
      It also doesn't show state tax withholding amounts.

    I have SFRs for 2010 and 2011, CSED is 2025 and 2027. I have an inheritance coming and want to end the IRS collection earlier than CSED. I had basically no profit for those 2 years after my self employed write offs. Should I file those returns now?

    • @LoganAllec
      @LoganAllec  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. If you legitimately had zero income, file those returns now and it will erase the liability.

  • @Jayobe485

    I'm currently looking at my transcripts. What if you're tax transcripts do not state a balance owed, or if an SFR was filed or anything it just shows which jobs you worked and how much was earned per year and the withholdings? I live in Indiana if this helps answer my question.

      Almost every county in the United States has a service called "legal aid." This exists to help people who are having financial or other challenges to get basic legal services. They are generally kind and helpful, especially in more rural areas. In big cities it can be a little tougher but it's still there. They will help you get to the right people to get help preparing your taxes. I admire your desire to improve your life and I'm sure if you keep putting one foot in front of the other, you can make it happen. If this feels overwhelming for you to look up, tell me the county and or city where you live and I can comment back here with some tips. TH-cam won't let me post links here, but I can do my best to help you, or I could post a link to some support services in your area in the description portion of my TH-cam channel. Wishing you all the best.

    I haven't filed in over 15 years. Maybe over 20. I don't know.
    It all started when 1 year I was owed about 300 from the government and said keep it. I don't care. The following year they claimed I owed them somewhere around 1300.
    Right then and there I decided I wasn't dealing with criminals and stopped filing. They took money from my paychecks every week as always. But I guess it's never enough for them.
    I have years of federal and state tax from different states. I don't know the years or the employers.
    Is it even possible for someone like me to get help? The government keeps stealing my bank accounts. I've had payment plans set up in the past but then they find something new and steal my account. Now my account is frozen and the payments cannot be made and everything is thrown in the garbage and nobody gets paid.
    Is winning the lottery my only hope?

      I'm not a tax expert like this guy but I saw your comment and I know enough to tell you that, no you are not effed. 2 years is not a long time, and $10,000 a year is very low. If you've got any business expenses you can deduct you can reduce your tax to almost zero. On that lower income there will be very small taxes and penalties. Ask this guy for help or look up in your county for legal aid or other such services that will help you get to finance people that help low income folks. Best of luck.

      You can go to irs.gov & sign up for an account. You'll have to verify who you are with a cell phone. Once you get signed up go in & look at your transcripts. They'll have a list of anyone that reported income that they paid you. Then you can use those to file. Most people in you situation or are younger don't make a huge amount of money & you would most likely get a refund if you filed. That may be why you haven't heard from them. Idk what your income level is but if your under say $30 * $40 thousand you most likely would have a refund for those years. And if you're lower income you can get most of that filed for free & just wait for your refund. It's probably in your best interest to file & see if you can get any refunds. You can also file your own taxes online once you have that info. It's not hard. Just go to the irs.gov site & look for the link they provide for filing free. Now, I'm assuming you might not be making a lot , you might be & may still even get a refund if you paid in. I"d start with getting signed in on the irs.gov site & see what's been reported & go from there. I'm not a preparer I only help friends & have done my own taxes for years. I know a little bit , maybe enough to probably give myself a headache but I do know you don't want to keep ignoring filing you may even get some of you money back depending on how much you paid in. Most young folks ususaly get refunds, especially those with children. Good luck

    If you filed in the last 3 years but never got your refund seized is that a good indication that an sfr hasn’t been filed against you?
    What if you only did some stock/crypto trading, no regular income? Is $400 or more profit what I have to file on? Thanks

    • @LoganAllec
      @LoganAllec  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, that's probably a good indication that the IRS has not prepared an SFR against you or at least has not assessed the tax on their SFR(s).
      That said, the Recovery Rebate Credit claimed on 2020 and 2021 returns technically wasn't supposed to be applied to back taxes. So keep that in mind if your 2020 and 2021 refunds were attributable to that credit.
      The $400 threshold is for self-employment income.
      If your only income was capital gains / losses , you're subject to the standard deduction threshold. However, it's probably a good idea to file to report your gross proceeds since otherwise the IRS may file an SFR assuming you have no basis. I've seen it where taxpayers have had millions of dollars in gross proceeds only to eek out like a $10,000 gain. But they didn't file so IRS prepared an SFR assuming they had millions of dollars of stock sales with *no basis.* So they assessed a huge liability. Of course it was fixable by filing the original return, but still a pain.
