what I never got is why they completely stripped the paint, then applied fake German markings. What was the reasoning behind such silliness? Surely tests can be done without fake markings?
+VvE Ringmus 11 t/m 21 Oneven This one was not stripped. It was flown from the factory and surrendered to the Allies by Me-262 test pilot Hans Fey. So you see the rough late-war construction in Germany, plus the putty that was applied to seal and weatherproof the skin panels before painting. This plane crashed during flight testing in 1946 in Ohio, the pilot bailing out.
