The Game Boy Color port of this game looks great, especially for being on 8-bit hardware. Then again, I shouldn't be surprised since Namco always seemed to be good at porting games to Nintendo's humble handheld. If Bandai Namco were to make a compilation of 8-bit Game Boy ports similar to their Namco Museum Archives collections of Famicom ports, I'd buy it.
Masterpiece and one of my all-time favs, thanks for making this comparison! 😁I grew up on the Windows version which I still feel is the definitive one, as it doesn't have *PS/DC versions' audio issues* : 1. *Arcade mode's Stage music in PS/DC are actually in the wrong places* , so they don't match up with the historic/prehistoric/undergrounder backgrounds. e.g. the track that plays in 4:05 / 5:43 (0-1000ft of the 5000ft Arcade mode) is the original version of _Mr. Driller's Theme_ , which is supposed to be for the easier 2500ft Arcade mode's 1st track. The Windows version correctly uses the _"Ardenten Ver." remix_ track for 0-1000ft of the 5000ft Arcade mode. It gets really jarring as you go further down! Another example is the PS/DC mode using _Sweet Laboratory_ for the 1000-2000ft section of 2500ft mode...when it's supposed to be the medieval-themed track _Georian_ . 😑 2. *PS/DC music is missing instrumentation!* -- for example, the track playing is supposed to have a cool synth piano improv. starting at 4:42 / 6:19, but it's just... _not there_ . 😕Go search up the official Mr. Driller Soundtrack album on TH-cam, _"Mr. Driller's Theme" (not the remix!), you'll hear the improv. coming in at around the 14-second mark. Yes, the soundtrack version is the same track you hear in the Windows version of Mr. Driller, it's awesome.👌 Anyway appreciate whoever reads my rant, rant over, PS/DC versions are still mostly awesome otherwise and I don't fault anyone who prefers them over the Windows ver., you do you, keep on drilling. 🙂
Yea I've been playing it lately it and the PS1 version plays the best, where as the Dreamcast looks the best outta the group, but it don't have the GameCube or the GBA version which both look and play great

My only real complaint is that the opening intro is not as smooth as the windows nor Dreamcast version are, but overall this port is great. 8.7/10 1. I'm not sure if you're still here, but keep in mind that the J2ME version was created for mobile phones around the time, which were nowhere NEAR as powerful as they are today. This was legitimately the best they could do.
The J2ME version of the game is really nice considering the hardware it was made for. As implied by the full name of the platform, "Java 2 Mobile Edition," this port was developed for the mobile phones of the time. Yes, many phones were able to run Java applets at one point. There were no smartphones yet, and apps on phones were still a novelty. People simply used them for more basic tasks. But with the Apple App Store, suddenly everyone could discover all these new apps for their new phones. And developers had it easier too: no more worrying about supporting a huge variety of hardware that could either maybe run or not run their game. The App Store was a big deal.

I somehow beaten the 5000ft game without losing any lives and playing on HARD.
No idea about the Windows port but the Dreamcast version supports VGA and runs at 480p 60 FPS. FUN game!
Same goes to GameBoy Color port of Mr. Driller.

Mr. Driller both on Arcades and PS1 are still a masterpiece even in 2024.

Mr. Driller Ace came out 11 months after PS1 port.
If you like Mr. Driller you will like Digby Extreme on Steam. It can be bought for cheap and there's also an Android version, but Steam one is better.
