    I've watched several reviews of this grill and yours was the only one that actually showed the function of the ash dump lever. And I can't believe you showed a Weber rotisserie ring in place on the grill - exactly the info I was looking for!! Really nice review - lots of useful info - well done!

    I have concerns about grease management and clean up, but I can shake the feeling they just made the perfect dedicated pizza oven for people who want a cheaper & easier alternative to the big wood burning pits. It almost feels like that's what they had in mind...good for RECTEQ!
    Excellent review as usual, Tom. Thank you. Can't wait to see the new videos with this.

      Thanks for watching Justin! Already did Steak! Gonna try Pizza next and Steak again this time on the cast iron diffuser! You are correct on grease management, however flipping over the heat diffuser and adding a disposable aluminum tray should work and I will be trying on a pork butt. Appreciate you stopping by! If you have a recteq like I do (1250), get the green mount grill pizza attachment. Fits & Works perfectly and is only $150. I can easily get to 700 - 800 which hot enough for a pizza.

    Important thing to remember when using the optical thermometer. They measure in a cone shape that gets larger the farther away you get from the target. It is possible that you could be reading some of the surrounding area in these measurements. The diffuser below is probably much hotter. I have the last model 380 and it routinely gets over 800F in riot mode. I love that thing for searing steaks. Great job on the review!

      I thought closer to the Auger it would be warmer but not quite the heat plate reflex. Because of the geometry of the bowl it flexes back in the heat

    Tom, I have the original Bullseye. The compatibility with so many aftermarket Weber 22” accessories is so useful, that makes this pellet smoker so versatile. I can remove the heat deflector, replace that with a grate and run lump if I want. I can, and have, added a compatible rotisserie for whole chickens. I can add a Santa Maria style grate system. I don’t really have a cooking need to 900+F so I will stick with the original I have. The only deficit is that the PID controller on the original doesn’t connect over WiFi. So I am using a Fireboard to monitor both the ambient and the cooking meat. The Recteq community is vibrant and supportive. I recommend that folks check out all the cooking content that they freely publish on TH-cam. That alone has amazing value!

    The bulls-eye is a perfect everyday grill. I do recommend a few things. 1. would be making sure the vents are clean. that has already been hit on. 2. would be to do a burn off after any greasy cook or a few long cooks. 3. Please do not do the burn off under cover. Make sure it is in the middle of your yard if possible. 4. Take good care of that heat deflector. My original is rusting out and I ma in the market for anyone getting rid of theirs. I have talked with the RT folks and they are not looking to sell it as a part anytime soon. Hoping that changes. Great video, kept my attention.

  • @ripjones5294
    @ripjones5294 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    My original Bulls-Eye can consistently make 749 in riot mode. RT sells the Bulls-Eye line as their "everyday grill". That is how it is discussed at the RT Academy. I truly like my Bulls-Eye. I am blessed by the fact that I am only five miles from RT-HQ. People are amazing, and the Customer Service is second to none. You do need to keep the side vents cleaned, to let it breathe. You'll love it.

    Good video and interesting grill. I've never had a pellet grill due to the 450-500 temp limits. I probably won't be converting (I have an Akorn Auto and MB560) but good to know there are pellet grills that can get really hot and sear without special grates.

    I like many things about that grill, but the price kills my interest. I have a B380 that is just over a year old. I love everything about it now that I dropped it into a stainless steel Weber Performer frame. It gets to 749 degrees which is hotter than I will ever need. The pellet dump feature would be nice, but not $450 nicer than what I paid.

    Don't let them know you are putting weber parts on it, I posted that I had an onlyfire rotisserie on it and they took it down because it didn't have their name on it. I sold my 380 because it would not go as low as advertised. I couldn't get it lower than 265 most of the time. It was good for pork buts, I loved it for burgers but my weber can do all of that and stay at 225.

    Hey Tom! I've been waiting for this one and to see what material they would use for the heat deflector. The original was a piece of junk carbon steel that
    would rust terribly. The rust would flake off in sheets when you would bang on it. 👎 I thought they may use Stainless, but that would have taken the price
    of the unit up to $1,000.00. Using the Cast Iron is a good choice, if maintained properly. When I saw it glowing red......I was wishing I had this Grill, because
    there would be a Thick cut Steak and Burgers put right on that Cast Iron! 😁 We'll see who out on the Tube does it first. Won't be me. Maybe You?😁

      @@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it. Seeing as you own one, do you think you could smoke a turkey on one? I smoke a lot of birds, should I opt for a different smoker? I'm looking to upgrade from my GMG Davy Crockett that barely lets me do a 14lb turkey which is actually pretty impressive given it's size.

      It would be tight and other pellet smokers might suit you better. If your patient I’ll be doing a mod the this grill that will allow for 2 birds!

    My fear after watching this isn't that it can't get to 900+, it is that is won't be able to maintain 225 to 250. Have you done that test?

    • @TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ
      @TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for Watching Michael! As you saw it held 350 for 45 minutes, I will be trying it at 225, I doubt it will be an issue. If you watched you saw that 900+ , no problem

    • @rehoby
      @rehoby 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ the review I saw of it trying to hold 350 showed it closer to 400. I'm not worried about it. Staying steady. I am worried about it staying low and steady.
      I have a smoking tex right now and it is awesome for low and slow and I also have a natural gas Weber hookup.. I have a second house though with no gas supply and I would love some kind of an all-in-one. This seems to be the best choice to both smoke and grill. I will probably buy one shortly

    I have the 380 and honestly don't love it. The build quality (on mine) is pretty crappy. I have another Recteq, a more typical smoker design that I enjoy soo much that I didn't hesitate to buy the 380. But for me, I prefer good ol' charcoal for grilling. I think this one is too expensive for what it, and I also wish the fire pot was offset to one side to create two zones, a searing zone and one for when things get a bit intense and you need to back the protein off direct flame. So I'm passing on this one.

    $800 for a thin and flimsy POS. No reason whatsoever this thing should cost as much as a Weber gas grill that can also get up to the same temp, but with much more heavy duty materials and a 10yr warranty. I have multiple friends with these bullseyes and you can cook some good food on them, but the price to quality ratio isn’t there. Sorry, I have nothing against recteq, but everyone I know that has had one had problems. Customer service seems to be good, good thing because you will need it.

      I have several Weber grills and you are correct it can get up to temp but my B380 is all about convenience for me, I can control the temp from anywhere without dealing with adjustments, ever. The stainless will outlast the mild powder coated steel in any of my weber grills, most weber attachments directly fit it as well, the only con is the price but I've spent money on worthless things, this wasn't one of them, cheers 🍻

    I don't get the point of having your pellet grill go to a thousand degrees as if that's something that pellet grill should do anyway. Rec tec just came out with a brand new grill that does not have a smoke box like the new camp chef does, this is a fail.
