Great Video! I think Pes 21 is an absolute brilliant game but I also think it is a little bit too hard to master. I mean Konami doesn't even communicate those controls with the consumer. A little bit more pick up and play would be great. I play it everyday and practice a lot and that's why I see that it is great underneath. But a casual player just thinks it is a shit game because he is not able to play like you do. He is blind for the possibilities and ever will be. The learning curve in every aspect is unbelievable.
Shielding could be do like in Fifa, by pressing L2 ( i know in pes is for Manual). I often lose the ball because my player shields the ball automatically when I don't want to or even when the opponent is in front!

Great video. Practicing close control and shielding has helped me tremendously. Would love to see more possession and creating attacking chances on manual passing videos. The AI seems to move differently when you are on manual and its more difficult to pass to players close to you on manual.

PES is definitely harder to master. I was banging in lots of goals in FIFA over the years. When I tried PES earlier this year it was definitely an harder game to play. More strategy needed. Enjoying it so far. Especially now mods are working on PC for 21.
This shielding thing is a bit overdone in my opinion because you can give a through ball to a 95 speed striker and a 65 speed defender just shields him and kills all his speed ?! So aggravating! He can never get past him due to this overpowered shielding mechanic where in real life he can outsprint him easily. Also this shielding is too much ive never seen a defender shield 2 attackers and not get pushed forward he just shields the ball like he is a brick wall...could use a lot of work this shielding!
Would high physical contact be a good stat for shielding for larger players such as target men? Balance is normally high for the smaller players But Larger players like Giroux & Matic have balance stats in the 60s
Previous pes game when I played used the off side short cut a lot while defending it made the players steal the ball I think again in pes it’s helping a lot while defending you should make a video on that everytime AI passes you hit back back off side shortcut it really really helps in defending

Thank you for the tutorial 👍, I am an online player only and just move from fifa 3 since 2 months ago. I just want to ask you: 1. Transition - how to receive the ball perfectly. Because timing is very hard on online games. I know that I should release all the command but it sometimes make the player even not moving towards the ball (too early) or still moving thus the player not receive perfectly (too late) 2. How to avoid being bullied by attackers. So many times, after great tackle, the ball will be retaken by the attackers, than make me concede a goal. 3. Tactics. How to set up a good tactics especially after leading. I tried a lot of things by swarm the box, deep defensive line, but it not help, the defender still keep moving forward and make me very vulnerable. This I start to think that the “momentum” on this game is really there. Thank you mate, hopefully you can show us
1. A combination of Super Cancel and Jockey (R2) are key here. You want to position the player to be in passing lanes with their body generally facing the path of the ball (obviously different if you're running onto a through ball though). You also want to slow down before settling yourself to receive. 2. Sometimes it's just bad game mechanics here, but you can mitigate it a bit by being careful with how you tackle in the first place. Are you using midfielders to track back and steal the ball? That way your defensive line isn't vulnerable when/if you don't win the ball left over from the tackle in empty space. As well, think about different tackling commands. X+X is often a bad idea, because you're knocking the ball into space. I prefer Super Cancel and/or Jockey with occasional X pressure to get me close enough, and then careful LS usage to take the ball away from the player. 3. You can fiddle with tactics all you like, but this really boils down to calmness and focus.

The shielding system needs to be done on deliberate button press like FIFA (one of the only systemic features they brought in that was actually good), because it's a bane on the game and not only slows it right down, but the CPU abuses it in situations where you just can't get the ball off the player, even if they have bang average stats. Also, there will be alot of occasions where it doesn't work i.e. the CPU pushes you in the back and causes you to stagger about 12 feet off the ball so they can win it back, with no foul given. The push in the back animation also occurs even when the CPU opponent is nowhere near you, I've seen it happen as a player was running into space to receive a through ball and instead of continuing to sprint into the space, they literally stumble over as if they were pushed in the back for a brief second before attempting to run again. It's like the CPU used Telekinesis from across the pitch or something to make the challenge! By the time that's happened, the ball has gone too far ahead of them and it gives the CPU just enough time to catch up and steal the ball. Konami has got ALOT to sort out in the next gen game.

I like how and in which situations the CPU will make you engage in shielding.. of course you have an opt-out button of the engagement, which is the super cancel.

Is pes 21 have a glitch about long through pass spam ? I played with some good players offline and they just keep long passing even if they near their own box and the ball keep going over my defenders and sit perfectly to their attackers
Hey spoony, how to control a ball when receiving it from a cross? I wanna control with chest or (with foot if chest is not possible) The player receive and control the ball on its own if I just use left stick to move to the spot where ball is landing. But in most of the crosses, opponent will rush and get the ball.. I want to take control of the space in the landing area and prevent defender from clearing, maybe body push will do..and jump if necessary to get the ball. What should I do if I just want get control the ball and not pass or shoot?
I presume this is what Spoony meant, but basically load up a pass and your player will jump to head it, but then use SC to cancel the pass and your player just chests it instead.

This year it's all about positional tbh, a good quality player shouldn't have their passing lanes intercepted. Just move the ball side to side. However, use super cancel to move across the grass faster (see my sprint faster tutorial for evidence) and hold X or jockey (finesse/special controls) and X when they make the pass to extend your intercept range.
I can see AI they can apply shielding while in defence (not having ball) like not allowing your opponent to reach the ball that fall in front of you. How to do it

It's utter BS mate. I have tried it and it's pure placebo. It's the fact you're not running. You can see how well I'm shielding without L2. L2 does absolutely nothing...other than bring up a cursor for manual passes, shots and throughballs
No offence to Spoony but super cancel being effective at improving almost everything in the game is a silly mechanic, makes no sense to me with regard to recreating real football. Shouldn’t have to keep tapping r1 and r2 every few seconds to dribble past players. Super cancel should just be to cancel any action you were doing like a pass or through ball. It seems more to me like a hack within the game than something designed purposefully. Also a shielding button like on Fifa would be much simpler in this instance.
It is definitely a hack. Same as Super cancel was never intended for more than cancelling actions. I disagree about the button press, not needed. Take it from stats and the way a player engages to win the ball and from which angle. Shouldn't need a button to turn your back to your opponent when you can do that already with the L-Stick.
Disagree with you both re it being a hack. At least, it has more _genuine_ functions than cancelling passes and shots - it cancels assisted movement. You make use of assisted movement all the time on any football game: players arc magnetically towards the ball. It's so most players don't roam around like headless chickens. But what SC gives you is free reign over movement direction and turning (and as a consequence, speed, where speed is formerly moderated in the closest arcing path to a ball). So it makes perfect sense that SC helps out with a range of movement mechanics. In this case, really you're just instructing the player to move away or move into the player you're shielding from with a bit more force and purpose, because otherwise it - like the rest of movement - is assisted.
@@SpoonyPizzas shame Konami take so long to correct simple errors, super cancel being misused/overpowered has been on the game for a while hasn’t it. Think it was even more effective than using the right stick/r2 in last year’s game, despite the new Iniesta style dribbling method being one of their main new mechanics. Thankfully the dribbling feels better this year and more like last year’s demo, to me anyway, so less reliant on super cancel. Fair enough about the shielding. I just don’t think completely letting go of the left stick is the best way to do it, feels quite unnatural to me. I feel like your striker could prepare for a pass to feet more effectively by having a shielding button, and it feels easier to make small movements on Fifa with the l2 button imo.
@@janguvpes7518 it was NEVER intended by Konami to allow unassisted movement and all the rest of the stuff we can pull off with it (charges causing knocks & stumbles). It was for cancelling shots and passes mate. Hack is probably the wrong word but I don't believe for a second they intended super cancel to take full control of your player. The same goes for the newly unearthed knock on, that just abuses the physics in-game to cause the knock on

I just don’t think it should be being used so frequently in general gameplay and to improve general dribbling. It shouldn’t be more powerful than a regular dummy using shoot then pressing X either, this standard dummy hardly works at all in my experience. If you look Spoony’s videos, in most of them he’s using super cancel just to try and get space from the marker, r1 and r2 is highlighted on his controller every few seconds really. Think this an exploit in the game rather than something purposefully created by the developers.
Little by little, KONAMI is taking its product to the era of manual defense (FIFA takes light years in this section) ... now it needs to give real life to the entire stadium and when I say everything is: substitute bench, substitutes heated to the margin, real DTs or, failing that, Legends, reach balls, stands more colorful and more real and for the love of God that the whole game is in real time, everything even the goal animations, I am far from seeing organized celebrations!

@@stubear8667 defending CPU FK is actually very easy. Activate your gk cursor and move the gk a little to the far post. It tricks the AI to aim for the near post(over the wall). Just as he's about to kick the ball, move the Gk back to the near post. He's going to catch it most times or save it at least. Has worked since PES 2015. Thank me later🤗
Me too, the AI is OP when it is shielding - even reduced all their stats to 40 to test it and it made no difference - when they shield, they're like a brick wall. Barging them with super-cancel never seems to work for me. Even if I do knock them off the ball, it's either called as a foul, or some stupid animations unfold so my guys stumble away from the loose ball and the AI gets it again. Strangely, I have found playing with manual passing makes it much easier to physically challenge the AI.
it literally sucks the new defending, the pc just make an animation an take he ball out from you without letting you do anitghing, but when is your time to defened the 68 phys attacker shields like van nistelrooy prime, such a boring sistem, pes 6 is way better than is trash
I agree because I play on superstar the cpu just push me off the ball like nothing. In addition, the cpu ghost through my player legs like crazy and my player just stumble all over the place while the cpu player just continues with it momentum like nothing happened.

Ball control and Physical Contact, then balance. Cristiano has high ratings in all 3 so he's a nice example to practice with.

I disagree about the button press, not needed. Take it from stats and the way a player engages to win the ball and from which angle. Shouldn't need a button to turn your back to your opponent when you can do that already with the L-Stick.
Disagree with you both re it being a hack. At least, it has more _genuine_ functions than cancelling passes and shots - it cancels assisted movement. You make use of assisted movement all the time on any football game: players arc magnetically towards the ball. It's so most players don't roam around like headless chickens. But what SC gives you is free reign over movement direction and turning (and as a consequence, speed, where speed is formerly moderated in the closest arcing path to a ball). So it makes perfect sense that SC helps out with a range of movement mechanics. In this case, really you're just instructing the player to move away or move into the player you're shielding from with a bit more force and purpose, because otherwise it - like the rest of movement - is assisted.
@@SpoonyPizzas shame Konami take so long to correct simple errors, super cancel being misused/overpowered has been on the game for a while hasn’t it.
Think it was even more effective than using the right stick/r2 in last year’s game, despite the new Iniesta style dribbling method being one of their main new mechanics. Thankfully the dribbling feels better this year and more like last year’s demo, to me anyway, so less reliant on super cancel.
Fair enough about the shielding. I just don’t think completely letting go of the left stick is the best way to do it, feels quite unnatural to me. I feel like your striker could prepare for a pass to feet more effectively by having a shielding button, and it feels easier to make small movements on Fifa with the l2 button imo.
@@janguvpes7518 it was NEVER intended by Konami to allow unassisted movement and all the rest of the stuff we can pull off with it (charges causing knocks & stumbles). It was for cancelling shots and passes mate. Hack is probably the wrong word but I don't believe for a second they intended super cancel to take full control of your player.
The same goes for the newly unearthed knock on, that just abuses the physics in-game to cause the knock on
@@janguvpes7518 think being able to move freely to get on the end of a cross for example is fine, using SC. I just don’t think it should be being used so frequently in general gameplay and to improve general dribbling. It shouldn’t be more powerful than a regular dummy using shoot then pressing X either, this standard dummy hardly works at all in my experience.
If you look Spoony’s videos, in most of them he’s using super cancel just to try and get space from the marker, r1 and r2 is highlighted on his controller every few seconds really. Think this an exploit in the game rather than something purposefully created by the developers.

Little by little, KONAMI is taking its product to the era of manual defense (FIFA takes light years in this section) ... now it needs to give real life to the entire stadium and when I say everything is: substitute bench, substitutes heated to the margin, real DTs or, failing that, Legends, reach balls, stands more colorful and more real and for the love of God that the whole game is in real time, everything even the goal animations, I am far from seeing organized celebrations!

Activate your gk cursor and move the gk a little to the far post. It tricks the AI to aim for the near post(over the wall). Just as he's about to kick the ball, move the Gk back to the near post. He's going to catch it most times or save it at least. Has worked since PES 2015. Thank me later🤗

Me too, the AI is OP when it is shielding - even reduced all their stats to 40 to test it and it made no difference - when they shield, they're like a brick wall. Barging them with super-cancel never seems to work for me. Even if I do knock them off the ball, it's either called as a foul, or some stupid animations unfold so my guys stumble away from the loose ball and the AI gets it again.
Strangely, I have found playing with manual passing makes it much easier to physically challenge the AI.
Need to give manual a try cause this is not letting me enjoy the game

I agree because I play on superstar the cpu just push me off the ball like nothing. In addition, the cpu ghost through my player legs like crazy and my player just stumble all over the place while the cpu player just continues with it momentum like nothing happened.
