  • I've been wanting to make a Victorian-style apron for quite some time, and I needed a quick project for this week's vlog, so this adorable apron project seemed like the perfect fit. This is based on Butterick 6229, though I have made many changes to that original pattern. I'm excited to incorporate this apron as a fun addition to my historybounding wardrobe!

    Honestly, I feel like leaving the little muddy paw-print on the pocket would have been very cottagecore. Very cute none the less

      Haha! You're probably right. And thanks!

      @@LadyRebeccaFashions You could use charcoal to make a print of your cat's paw, then use that charcoal print to create a stamp. Then you'd have a custom stamp of your kitty's paw to use on whatever you want! (Charcoal idea is from pangurandgrim on Tumblr and is kitty-safe.)

    Don't you just love when they come in with muddy paws and go straight for something like white fabric?!

    I also made an apron but I looked at many photos from the 1890's. I also thought I could pull this off in an hour or two. Ha. I also had the gaping bib problem & I had to put the corset on and mold, so to speak, the bib over the bust. Surprisingly complex quickie project. Enjoy your videos very much.

    Great job! I need to make an apron like that for when I'm in costume and doing messy stuff. :D

    I have this pattern, thanks for showing your adaptations. I really need an apron to wear when I eat. My bust tends to act like a shelf that catches food.

    The corset video popped up on my front page and now I'm watching a lot of your other videos because you look like me and I find it really validating. I'm larger and pear shaped, but these things happen after kids. I'm also trying to transition my wardrobe to be more cottage core, but moodier. My best friend and I have been joking that it's Baba Yaga Core to Sewstine's Ghibli-core. This means that I will shortly be organizing my fiber arts room and pulling out the sewing machine. If I can find my missing spinning wheel part, I may even restart my Local Color project.
    Edit: I actually started commenting to let you know that the skinny Crayola Washable Markers you get at the grocery store for $2 for an 8 pack wash out from everything with just water. I use them to mark cutting lines, darts, embroidery patterns, whatever, but for white I find it safest to go with yellow. (that's the paranoia talking)

      I love the idea of Baba Yaga Core. And good to know about those markers!

    Beautiful apron! Last time I sewed a skirt panel upside down, I was in the process of putting the waistband on and wondered why I had an odd upturn in the middle of the panel. It was the center front panel, so, I just trimmed that off and kept going. It wasn't until I came to the end of the waistband but not the end of the skirt that I truly began to question things. I tried it on to see if I had cut the waistband too small and found that the hem not only pulled in weird, but had a crescent cut out of it. Because I had already trimmed down what turned out to be the hem, I now had to shorten the ENTIRE skirt to even that little mistake out. I ended up putting a ruffle on the skirt , which, lucky for me, I really really liked, but AARGH! {And isn't that always the way when you want quick and simple -- it never is either one!} Loved this! PUPPY!!!! Stay well!

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions
      @LadyRebeccaFashions  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you! And oh no! I'm glad your skirt turned out cute, but that must have sucked when you realized what happened.

    • @michellecornum5856
      @michellecornum5856 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@LadyRebeccaFashions Yes, I was hurrying, it was late, (very late) and I wanted to wear it the next day, but because of that, I had to put off wearing it for a week while I made a ruffle. Not quite a "it's too early in the morning to be making these kind of mistakes," -- but still. It looks great, you'd never know -- but still. Now if something is odd, I DO NOT reach for scissors. XD.

    I love this apron! It's so pretty. Great job sweetie! I have to admit I giggled a bit when you said Dora walked all over your cut pieces with her muddy paws. I know the feeling all to well with previous cats I had trampling over me or projects I was working on. It's like they know how much it annoys us.

    How accurate is it to the Victorian. Era Ann did apron design change like dresses did in that time

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions
      @LadyRebeccaFashions  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There were lots of styles of aprons in the Victorian era, but this is a good basic one that covers a wide range of years.
