I never had issues with 2 collectors as long as they were centered up with the refinery bot. Doing a dual side-by-side system would be easiest, though more pistons would be needed. Trying to do a "carriage" system could be cool too, but that'd be buggy as bananas (not to mention non-lift-compliant) and a manual swap would be far superior.
For the collectors you could probably make a 2 or 4 way T that spins. Have the hole to lower where the collector facing away from the refiner is and then you can have one dropped down and being filled then bring it up and spin it whenever you want
Idea: Build a second driver seat for mining operations. You can bind the pistons of the collector unit to it and give it 4 directional movement. Meaning adding screws to all 4 sides of the raft so that you can easily position yourself for collecting. This should also eventually make mining with drills easier.
I like this idea. But I want a front mounted crane with the pickup cages mounted. Might need two refineries to pull it off but hey. Give it a pair of outgoing arms with which to pick up the goods suspended below the crane chassis. And now I'm picturing how to make 4 pickup cages rotate into two refineries with just pistons and a bit of logic... Neat. But yes some bulk control of the raft with 8 small maneuver screws for mining tasks could be awesome. Bonus points for rotating them out of the water for normal movement. Triple bonus for repurposing the side set as driving wheels to make trips to the farmer easier.
The collector swapping idea sounds awesome but try creating it in creative as a test run to see if it'll work correctly or not and you really should give your raft some armor to prevent shark's from attacking it
You also could have taken 4 chests next to each other, and the craftbot with one left and one right chest in top, that connects them into the loop. so, you don´t really need the pipes.... Also, I think you could make it a 2 collector system, if you line the collectors up from the left and right, so you could make your switch-crane-refine-system a bit more faster, when you add it a master switch and let the other switches be for changing the collector, that goes down. You could stay down and just fill collector after collector with this, because you´ll always have space in them and the refinery will work like nearly all the time ^^ You could add strafing propellers, just for more control at collecting from the raft. Also you might want to get the other bots from the workshop, since you´re there ^^
Personally, I think raising the crane height by one block and then putting one block directly above the resource collector, and then putting the switch on that block would be the easiest method. That way you could send down one collector, fill it up, raise it, manually swap it out for a fresh collector, and then lower it down and stuff while the first collector feeds into the refinery.
Make a player launcher on the raft to get on top of buildings and warehouses Well there are more practical ways but who dosent want to be shot out of a canon from their raft
hey. thanks for the raft mod series: im back to playing Scrap Mechanic. re underwater mining: the welder works underwater. so use it to weld the resource bars together then bring them up to a collector/refiner combo for early resource collection. i stole your lift idea, i mounted my lift off the rear, w my seat on it: can drive it underwater that way. i also built my lift so i can weld extra bars off the rear, lift them, then remove one & have the collectors absorb the rest when there's space. *EDIT* hanging off the side causes imbalance issues. keep the top clear, put it there. also need to space a stack away from the collectors, they seem to have a minimum detection distance to auto-load. i want to use your battling piston length controller on it, then have 1 switch lower it, and sensors keep it 1-2 blocks off contacting anything. then it automatically sets height. *EDIT* got this working. also folded my piston stack, so i can mount it low on the ship, save 2 pistons, but use some of them to lift the collectors higher if needed. i've never had issues w 2 collectors, if placed w/in range of the refiner & equally dividing the pickup zone. just make sure that the "bottom" (the end that the resource bars "fall" toward" is partially in the Refiner collection Zone: which is a roughly Collector sized zone on the input side of the Refiner. i've currently got 2 collectors sitting upside down, that sit two blocks higher than the surrounding deck, and equally dividing the refiner side2side: this places the "bottom face" in the Refiner access zone. then it usually picks a collector, refines all of it, then the second.
Another solution is do 2 collectors and 2 refiners, with them both converging into the crafting bot using a chest Would lead to increased collecting and faster refining speed, as well as making it easier to sweep them on the ground to collect the Mats
Cool Video, after if have seen it i thought: set the collector pistons on a timer so it goes up and keeps the refinery fueld and then lowers back down.
As a future Idea, get a second collector, put them side by side each with their own sets of pistons and center the refinery, so it can grab from both of them. Then add some logic gates, so you have an activation switch on the top that lowers one of them and then a switch on each of them that sends that collector up and at the same time send the second collector down, vice versa on the other collector (the button on top brings both up)
you're not imagining the sharks , they are really there , it's just that the AI is uhh , not so good , it teleports the sharks to some other place when it gets stuck on land , to prevent landsharks , soo yea.. it's even doing that when sharks attack your raft sometimes
since the ship is even, just have 2 lines of what you made here on each side of the ship, and have it all filter into the craftbot system, that way you can have 2 at the same time and its not overly complicated
After you commented about putting wheels on the raft I put wheels on mine and now can drive out of the water. I also lost six collectors to sharks I put mine on a beam I could pivot out of the water.
you guys need to add manouverability on your raft, like i have mine on double engines, the gas engine is for cruise control and the electric engine is for tight manouvering when i want to line up for mining and line up for docking
you guys should try out the spears the do the same damage as the regular scrap mechanic hammer but have a very noticeable increase in range there quite good weapons
@@roccov3614 i'd guess because it's an extra item they'd need to haul around for the marginal benefit of a bit of extra range. I'd probably skip out on that too, if it only provides extra range, even if the range is good
If you want to do the collection swap put two collectors side by side and have them on separate pistons, and put a piston on the crane that pushes the collectors back and forth so you can have the collectors swap at the top
And sorry for the dubble comments but you could also put a baring on the top of the pole that holds the collector to switch them out in a 180 spin and switch with two holes in the floor opposite from each other
Why not have like, a 4-collector system? Sitting on pistons, on a revolving cylinder. Think of like, a bomber that has 4-sides and bombs on each side, then it rotates and drops more bombs, until each side is empty. Why not do something like that? While one collector is being filled, the other 3 are being emptied. Whichever collector is above the hole, will drop down into the water, then when it comes back up, you turn the head, and the 2nd collector is then dropped down. Could have it automatic or manual.
Make like one of those crane things they use for shipping containers so you can have like 2 of those piston contraptions onboard and 1 thing can just roll out off the way of the other one on wheels like a hanging sliding door kind of? Im not sure how to explain it lmao😅 i tried
You were talking about having 2. Why not have it where they are on a rotating wheel and while one is down with you the other one is up unloading into the refinery. And when you're done loading up the other one it rotates and the now empty one goes down and the full one goes up
How about moving all of your equipment far enough away from the whole so that you can extend out and set your collector down then detach has been around and pick up the other one and put it down in the hole? Honestly I haven't played this game a couple of times but I was two guys and videos so I was just wondering
You should use too many wheels and too many bearings to make it a land boat. soon !!! Don't forget the Pistons but the wheels aren't on piston they're on their own little drop-down constructs that are attached to the ship on two points and the third is the bearing the wheels are on.
Instead of having a entire system to rotate your collectors, why don't you just put your refinebot on a platform connected to a piston and move it, having a corner vacuum pipe peice on the chest it is connected to currently? Perhaps it might not work that way though.
i would have used a t pip pice instead of a chest in between the crafting and refining bots would. have made for room also just put two collectors on the sides of the rifine bot

Giving the ship some bow thrusters for maneuvering would be very useful while deep sea mining

If you want to base your raft off of an oil tanker, you should use a T2 tanker from World War II as a reference.

The reason the front of your raft is lifting up is because all of your raft bases are in different directions and they all have to be straight.
