  • Hi Guys,
    Thank you sooo much for your patience while I was working on my last London Video! I really appreciate it and I hope you love it! On this video, we did A LOT. We went to Kings Cross, The British Library, Portobello Market, Westfield mall, Mayfair, Piccadilly Circus, and Knightsbridge. It was a weekend full of tube rides and adventure! I had the absolute best time and I cannot wait for my next trip back. Like truly, cannot wait. I am so excited. As always thank you all so so soooooooo much for watching and I will see you all next week!

    Londoner here 👋🏾 Glad you enjoyed the city. London is truly magical. A few friends and I went to Notting Hill carnival yesterday after a long hiatus. Fell in love with our city all over again ❤️

    You need a reading pass to access the reading rooms at the British Library. The idea is that you go to a reading room and search the Library catalog and they bring the books that you order from the catalog.
    The British Library has every book ever published in the UK it's the national library of the UK and one of the largest libraries in the world.

      Thank you for this information! I had no idea this was the process and that it houses every book in the UK. That is WILD. Do they let you check the books out as citizens or are you only able to read them in the reading rooms?

      @@dugebuwembo Oh wow, i didnt know this! Thank you for this tip. That is different from American Libraries. We are able to check the books out and take them home except for some books they are only allowed for view at the library. I had a feeling when I was at the British Library, that was the vibe. lol So I was like let me not go into places that say members or pass only. Next time, I will try and get a pass to see if I can view some of the books. Thank you for this information and educating me!

    The British library is the largest library in the world with about 200 million catalogued items.
    London is one of only two Alpha++ category cities in the world, the other being NYC:
    Alpha ++
    🇬🇧 London
    🇺🇸 New York City
    Alpha +
    🇨🇳 Beijing
    🇦🇪 Dubai
    🇭🇰 Hong Kong
    🇫🇷 Paris
    🇨🇳 Shanghai
    🇸🇬 Singapore
    🇯🇵 Tokyo
    Alpha
    🇳🇱 Amsterdam
    🇧🇪 Brussels
    🇺🇸 Chicago
    🇩🇪 Frankfurt
    🇹🇷 Istanbul
    🇮🇩 Jakarta
    🇲🇾 Kuala Lumpur
    🇺🇸 Los Angeles
    🇱🇺 Luxembourg City
    🇪🇸 Madrid
    🇲🇽 Mexico City
    🇮🇹 Milan
    🇮🇳 Mumbai
    🇧🇷 São Paulo
    🇰🇷 Seoul
    🇦🇺 Sydney
    🇨🇦 Toronto
    🇵🇱 Warsaw
    The two Alpha++ cities are on a level in every way except for two things: London has over 40% green space whereas NYC has 11% and London has over 2,000 years of history.
    If you’re a bookworm, then you will enjoy the UK. It publishes more books per head of population (2,710 titles per million inhabitants) than any other country in the world. To put that into context for you, the USA publishes 959 titles per million inhabitants.

    • @TaylorsJourney
      @TaylorsJourney  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Omgosh!! Thank you for providing all of this context and information! I am deeply appreciative. It makes sense now why I enjoy London and NYC so much both being alpha++!
      But London wins for me for exactly the things you mentioned the green space, the books, and the history. I had no idea these things were measured in a systematic fashion. I just was naturally attracted to London because of these things.
      This also explains why I see so many books in english bookstores that I fail to see in the states. For example, I am in Paris now and I went to a UK bookstore and I saw so many titles that I just haven’t seen before.
      Thank you for summing this up and providing me with this information. It definitely validates the love I have for England in a real tangible way. Especially being a bookworm, I know now I will never be bored with book releases.
      Lastly, i had no idea the British Library is the largest in the world. That is a wild fact and so cool to learn so the next time I am there, I will definitely try to take advantage of this fact. ❤

      @@TaylorsJourney Well, there’s probably a books store somewhere in China the size of an airport but it won’t have 200 million catalogued items - it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s mostly empty. A lot of the newly developed boom economies (Dubai, China, Singapore, etc) go for headline-grabbing bling - vanity projects with little substance or maturity.

    • @TaylorsJourney
      @TaylorsJourney  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@darkmatter6714my response got deleted to this 😢 but 200 million books is just such a crazy number to think about! Like where do they store them all i know the library is large, but that’s seriously such a large number

    • @darkmatter6714
      @darkmatter6714 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TaylorsJourney 200 million “catalogued items” - not the same as books. Actual books would be over 13 million. The rest will be either electronic format, periodicals, microfilms and rare manuscripts. In fact the British Library is a legal deposit library, meaning that many other nations entrust it to safeguard their titles and publications (Brits were always good at high level administration). There’s stuff there in archive which won’t be discovered and read for the first time for decades, perhaps centuries!
      The same goes for London’s Natural History Museum - the oldest natural history museum in the world. It has so many fossils and records catalogued in its vaults that many - if not most - “new” scientific and paleontological discoveries are off the back of studying its massive archives rather than freshly dug up stuff. People might have dug up something, put in the archive and it won’t be for decades/centuries later when someone finally gets round to studying them.
      If you haven’t already visited them, the Natural History Museum, the British Museum, the Imperial War Museum, the Science Museum and the Victoria & Albert Museum are a must see. The best part? they’re all free to visit - most museums in the UK are.

    • @TaylorsJourney
      @TaylorsJourney  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you, thank you, thank you for providing so much detail in your comments! It truly makes my experience so much more lush and then when I film it, I can relay to others what you told me.
      I had no idea the museums were free. In America museums are far from being free. Some can be upwards of 40 USD for entry. All of these sound so interesting and im afraid there is no possible way for me to do them all in one go.
      I will be in london in December, so having a background in Science and Ill be bringing my little one with me, i think the Science Museum would be the best place for us and potentially the natural history museum. We have plans to visit so many bookstores and go to some christmas markets so I want to try to squeeze in at least one museum.
      Back to the British Library these facts are very fascinating. I didn’t realize the legality that went into this Library. I think this is all super interesting. So nowww it makes since why everything is separated out and stored in archives rooms, and why they are members only access. This makes so much sense. Now that I have the backstory.
      Also 13 million books is a TON of books. I know they probably come and all shapes and sizes but seriously that is so so soooo many books!

      @@TaylorsJourney aww thanks so much for subscribing! 🫶🏾. Ecuador was the perfect first country for me to go solo to. I felt completely safe. I didn't walk around at night in Quito but when I was in Banos and Cuenca I was walking around from sun up to sundown. It was amazing. People were super friendly and it was pretty easy to navigate through. The only time I took transportation was when I was traveling to the next city.
      I got my eye on Brazil but I feel like I would feel safer going with another person or a group.

    What your impressions on London?? ?

    • @TaylorsJourney
      @TaylorsJourney  หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I loveeee London. Its my favorite city in Europe so far. Im exploring other places to see if this holds, butttt I am a big NYC girl. London gives Brooklyn, NYC vibes and it helps tremendously to speak the language. Not having a language barrier makes just integration into the city much easier. I also don’t mind the weather. The rain is also vibes. I like to read so it is the perfect setting for an avid reader. The public transportation is also easy to navigate. The food is amazing and healthier than the states. I love that its a melting pot. The history, and its just feels like home in Europe. As an American, when Im in London this is where I feel the most at ease. I also love the lack of guns. I like the police force delegates who carries firearms. I like that my experience has been that I am judged by my character and actions over skin color. I could write a novel, but i Love love loveeee London, England. 💕
