    Nice results from your project. I like the fact you get a full perimeter color effect through
    the acrylic with only one side of it being lit. The use of the remaining strip on the underside is an awesome effect as well and good use of the material.

    Earned yerself a sub. Going to look into using this for my next computer build. Foldable table legs, Your etched acrylic tabletop, And an water cooled PC inside. One helluva Battlestation. Might even make something similar for my living room, Non foldable legs and sealed up with silicone with the Air inlet and outlet for cooling being directly underneath with edges against any spilled liquid so a good movie night with a lil bit of drinks doesnt end too expensive.
    Cheers for the ideas :D

  • @ShaunHusain
    @ShaunHusain 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It should work fine regardless of where the decal/logo is put. The key here is that the light totally internally reflects throughout the panel unless it hits a diffuse surface (some part you roughed up, that diffracts the light that was normally bouncing or reflecting through the pane of acrylic).

    on those LED strips, you can cut them along the line, between the LEDS, use a cable to run power to the next LED strip. Did the same thing on my battle station and under the cabinets in the kitchen.

    A little different but it turns out IKEA sells glass table tops. If you take one of those (Glasholm, 3/8 inch thick tempered glass - only about $30) you can take aluminum channel section which has a roughly 3/8 inch gap in it and put a strip of LEDs in that. It just goes right on with a press fit. The edges are already ground, as is the underside. Rather than having a logo on the desk you have a kind of gradient effect from the back to the front as the light scatters. No edge sanding, or etching needed. I made my computer desk this way and it was featured on lifehackers a couple of years ago.

    You can also burn the edges of the plexi-glass with a hand propane torch lightly and edges get super shiny almost a mirror shine so the colored light effect looks really expensive and its easy to do instead of sandpaper.

    Hello Mark. I have a couple of questions
    1. When you guys did the underside of the table with the extra led strips, did yoiu have to cut and solder them or did you just twist and loop them at the edges / corners. I cant really see the corners in the pic.
    2. What grit sand paper did you to ruff up the edges of the acrylic sheets?
    Thanks.
    Please let me know.
