    That looks like a typical southern city that is made for cars, not people. It seems that all southern cites, besides New Orleans, are made this way. There are one or two walkable streets but the rest of it, is made to drive. I didn't see much that would make me want to get out of the car but it looks well maintained, so that's good.

      One of the things I don't like about Austin is that if you want to visit a place you most likely need a car. It's not much of a walkable city except downtown. A car a needed her.

    Born and raised an hour away in San Antonio, my dear family and friends reside in San Antonio, but Austin just feels like home to me. I make it a point to make the quick drive up there every weekend - I’ve been doing this for years. I hate the city of San Antonio so much, it’s like a literal night and day difference between the two. SA doesn’t care about locals, just tourists.
    One day sooner than later I’ll live in ATX. ♥️

    I love my city very much. Unfortunately because of the times we live in with the pandemic, DT activity is just a shadow of what it was before the Pandemic. This is a very vibrant city day and night normally.

    • @Torontopia
      @Torontopia 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It looks un-pedestrian friendly to me. I don't see any cool neighbourhoods or streets with consistent animation (stores, restaurants, bars, museums, attractions) I see lots of wind-swept areas, parking lots, office towers with no animation and bad city planning. It looks like every souther city I've seen in America. For some weird reason, they all look and feel the same, very DEAD!

    • @JNS512
      @JNS512 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Torontopia We are in a pandemic, the video was filmed during the lockdown. You can't judge this city by the video. Austin is much more vibrant than what is shown and has some excellent neighborhoods, one of which I live in.

    • @Torontopia
      @Torontopia 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@JNS512 Yeah, I realize this was filmed during the pandemic and the streets would have less people but I was more referring to the city planning and the design of the city. Austin is clearly the best city in Texas, as Dallas and Houston are made for cars, not pedestrians.
      I checked other walking videos that were filmed before COVID-19 and even then, most of the city is very quiet. What Austin does have is 5 or 6 entertainment hubs, located mostly just outside the downtown core like SOCO, I think it's called, which are nice, lively areas but everything seems to be kept to just those concentrated hubs, which does hurt the walkability in the rest of the city. It's a nice, well-maintained city but not very weird at all. In fact, it seems pretty corporate and normal.
      If I had to live in Texas, I think I'd live in Austin, so I'm not anti-Austin or anything, I'm just not a big fan of southern city design/planning. I prefer a city that is knit together with interesting neighbourhoods where you can walk everywhere in a highly animated core. (think London, Paris, NYC) In those cities one cool neighbourhood connects to another so you're almost always surrounded with people, interesting buildings, lively public spaces, stores, bars, restaurants, markets, museums, attractions and ACTION!

    • @JNS512
      @JNS512 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Torontopia I do agree that the city still has a long way to go and are no where near the level of cities like London, Paris or even Toronto where I assume you are from by your screen name. (By the way definitely a great city) We have come a long way however considering when I was born in 1980, Austin had only 345,000 inside the city limits and today we have just over 1 million in the city limits. Even just in the last 20 years alone, there has been an immense amount of transformation. Take a look at pictures of Austin from 2000 compared to 2020. For anyone who may have lived here then and returned today, they would not recognize the city. We are working on more walkablility and we have a great chance of passing a major mass transit plan that will bring our first underground rail tunnel and stations along with seamless transition to different modes of transit. Will be the best in the state and once completed will put us up there with some of the top mass transit cities in the U.S. I appreciate that you do see some of the qualities of the city and definitely we have room to improve.

    • @dethtour
      @dethtour 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Each Texas city has their own attraction. Houston is basically a New York. Business business business. Alot of opportunities and the economic powerhouse of Texas (energy, medical, and aerospace). So Houston is pretty much the place you go to for making a living and having commodities. But Austin is now becoming the tech capital of the US with many tech companies moving operations there and has a clubbing district. Dallas is like the logistical city of the US because of how well it located at the center of the country and how much manufacturing is done there. Dallas has a well organized infrastructure.

    Austin is nice. Like what has been mentioned, it's very southern.
    You can't fake a sense of place or community. Many southern cities want to recreate neighborhoods like you find in Philadelphia, Louisville KY or Rochester NY and you can not do it. That is what is missing from Austin as well as many other southern cities.
