The Lab LDN is Mixmag and Coors Light's weekly live stream, powered by Void Acoustics, where we showcase the finest DJs direct from our world famous office party.
This Friday we welcome drum ‘n’ bass don Sub Focus to spin tracks for an hour.
Nick Douwma became a key member of the Ram Records family after handing label boss Andy C a demo in a club 2003. He went on to create a series of late-00s bangers including ‘Timewarp’, ‘Rokit’ and ‘Could This Be Real’.
In 2009 he released his self-titled debut album and followed it up with 2013’s ‘Torus’. Now he’s back with his first material since last year’s ‘Love Divine’. ‘Lingua’ is a throwback to d‘n’b’s dub roots with its hefty bassline, carnival horns and dancehall vocals courtesy of Stylo G.

Just for share an information with you, all the top dj's and producers of the World plays even now, near 20 years after the releases, during a nice party hosted by some of the greatest artists of this scene you could listen with very high odds from the 3-4 to the 6-7 times a SubFocus track. So, are all crazy or is for a reason, like that his first LP is even today a perfect music concept?
PS when I say"top" I'm meaning all the most skilled, most famous, who don't has problems with the number of their original tracks for play long, cause they are the finest and prolific producers who lives on this planet. For example, all the times I've seen Noisia live, always putted on 2 Sub's tracks, also dj Fresh, the same for Bad Company, Ed Rush, and the younger Netsky and The Prototypes, ending the example quoting only some who i- had the pleasure to enjoy the live, but I bet that also the others does the same thjing.. That's why played on a good system his album is the one with the cleanest and powerful sound ever produced by anybody.

Some mc's are extremely good. But only when they to take a break.. inuse to run d n b nights. If the mc got too much I use to ask if I could have a go.. they would pass me the mic. I'd put it in my back pocket and just dance. I know what you mean...

Hey Mixmag! I've got a suggestion: How 'bout if you'd record these both as a "whoopwhoop look at us drink Coors Light"- club version and one version recorded direct from the mixer etc.? This would shoot straight up there with the best DNB mixes of all time if it wouldn't sound like you're listening to it from a Game Boy Color...

I never really bother to find out what producers look like, so it usually happens for the first time if I stumble upon a video/photo, or see them live. So I knew Sub Focus was wicked talented, but had no idea he was so hot lol. Big ups on both counts, Sub Focus! Rawr.
Subfocus is my favorite. Mixing style is very good, he cares about tracks compatibility when mixing, unlike other Djs who just play tracks producing shit by mashing up everything...

I remember seeing him at fabric in around 2009, was an awesome gig. Wondered what happened to him did he drop off for a while?
Saw him last year at Rampage Antwerp, he was in the line-up of more parties so he didn't drop off.
Trust me its one of the greatest things you can see live! Got to see him at EDC in 2014 so much energy in the crowd. One of my best times ever. Im hoping he will go back.
