Doe to starvation, he hid inside the DEPHTS of the cave. Making himself a cofin made of heavy stones. That cofin leads to a secret book. a book that he left expressing how the etrean monsters should be feared. When going to that book with physical strengh (75 strengh) you can't read it. Which leads to the meaning that the nameless warrior. Died trying. Only to be, the most weak warrior who lived in true hell..chasing his dreams. Making his soul...be reancarnated as an angel. ( the move where he uses some arrows or things to shoot at you in 8:00 simillar to the angel's move in deepwoken)
I personally like to think King etrea abandoned his kingdom not out of weakness but out of wanting to pursue his own endeavors and is insanely powerful but just couldn't give a shit about what's really important. Like goku but more stoic.
maybe he sought the abillty to manipulate aether? edit: what if the king of etrea through away his humanity to gain something maybe aether, and his he is the reason why there is animal races. Maybe he wanted to be stronger somehow and he became a pseudo-human :O
vohxus poggers man i love your lore vids edit: i forgot something really important... i was in a rogue rp server with a bunch of rpers and rag did a sort of "secret qne" that only the rpers knew about, in that secret qna he said that the game was slightly inspired by hollow knight so im not sure where that sort of stuff would fit into the lore
