  • We put the Kruve sifter to the test. And the shocking results need to be seen to believe.
Kruve have absolutely nailed it again, this time with the Kruve sifter. Perfecting the grounds for the most amazing coffee bed I have ever seen.

I prefer the fellow shimmy because it's more conventient, but the different mesh sizes of the Kruve Sifter are quite cool as well.

Yes, the Shimmy is a super convenient way to remove anything under 200 microns, but doesn't do anything more than that... This is definitely a much more complicated system, but allows you to get SUPER detailed with your grinds & you could even go as far as using the Kruve sifter to give yourself 3 different grind settings to brew with for different recipes of the same bean.

Watch Kruves video on calibrating the grinder for less wastage
But that will only be best grind for use with a sifter.
Grind size on your grinder will have big and small pieces which would offset each other

I will check it out... I also have a new grinder on the way, it will be interesting to see how much wastage we have in comparison.

I don't have a way to filter out the too large pieces, but to remove the "fines" I pour my grounds on a paper towel and spread them around to within 2" of the edge, then fold the paper and dump the coffee in my V60. 90% of the fine coffee stays on the paper and makes for a more consistant brew time for me

That is a great idea. To be completely honest, removing the super fines is the crucial part. So well done. 😎

can you regrind the large boulders? and also, i have a single mesh sifter that sifts 0.5mm fines. if i also sift out the large boulders would I notice a big difference?

I have never tried this... but stay tuned, because now I need to know for sure. 🤣

Would like to know that as well

So yes... if you have a VERY good grinder, it is possible to re-grind larger grinds. However, you run the risk of damaging your grinder & spending a lot of time cleaning. I would normally suggest trying it yourself, but in this case. Please don't. 😅

After dialing in my grinder as best I can, I end up wasting around 40% of the coffee I grind (10 grams per 25 grams) after sifting it with the Kruve, which is horrifying, though less than your 50% wastage. :-) Kruve sent you a sifter for free, but didn't sponsor this video, is that right?

      What grinder are you using?
This video was exaggerated due to grinding at a very course setting.
Kruve & I have a great ongoing working relationship.
